Requirements The database client software needs to be installed in order for Feith Rules Engine (Rex) to connect to the database (e.g. Oracle Client, MS SQL Server Native Client, etc). The Rex Monitor can be run on either Microsoft Windows or Unix X-Windows operating systems. Feith Rules Engine 8.1 Install Guide 5
Install Rex To install the Feith Rules Engine (Rex): 1. Run the Rex installation package. The Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for Feith Rules Engine (Rex) opens. Click Next to continue. Feith Rules Engine 8.1 Install Guide 6
2. On the License Agreement screen, click Yes if you agree to the terms. Feith Rules Engine 8.1 Install Guide 7
3. On the Choose Destination Location screen, choose the folder where Rex will be installed. Click Next to continue. The default location is C:\Feith. To choose another location, click Browse and select another folder. Feith Rules Engine 8.1 Install Guide 8
4. On the Setup Type screen, choose the Typical setup type and click Next to continue. Feith Rules Engine 8.1 Install Guide 9
5. On the Select Program Folder screen, choose where you want Rex in the Programs list. The default program folder is Feith Systems. Feith Rules Engine 8.1 Install Guide 10
6. On the Select database type screen, select the database you wish to use. Click Next to continue. Database choices are Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server. Feith Rules Engine 8.1 Install Guide 11
7. On the Start Copying Files screen, click Next to start installing Rex. Feith Rules Engine 8.1 Install Guide 12
8. During the installation, you will be prompted with the Information message to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 and 2008 Redistributable Packages. Click OK to continue. Feith Rules Engine 8.1 Install Guide 13
9. The Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package screen displays with a license agreement. This redistributable is required for Rex. If you know you already have the redistributable installed, click No. If you do not have the redistributable installed, click Yes to agree to the license agreement and proceed with the installation. 10. The Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Setup screen displays with a license agreement. This redistributable is required for Rex. If you know you already have the redistributable installed, click Cancel. If you do not have the redistributable installed, click Next to proceed with the installation. Accept the License Terms and click Install. The Microsoft C++ 2008 Redistributable is installed. Click Finish to complete the redistributable installation. Feith Rules Engine 8.1 Install Guide 15
11. The Rexcfg program is opened and displays. Make changes if desired (see Feith Rexcfg User Guide for more information). Click OK and select the rex.ini file to overwrite it, saving any changes you made. Click Cancel to skip this step and configure Rex later. Feith Rules Engine 8.1 Install Guide 16
12. An Install prompt displays asking if you want to start the Rex service now. Click Yes to start Rex now. Click No to leave Rex off. Feith Rules Engine 8.1 Install Guide 17
13. On the InstallShield Wizard Complete screen, click Finish to complete the installation. See Feith Rules Engine Manual for information on how to configure and monitor Feith Rules Engine (Rex). Feith Rules Engine 8.1 Install Guide 18
Start Rex Rex needs to be licensed in order to run. Contact Feith Systems and Software, Inc. personnel to license Rex. If you need to configure Rex further, do so using either Rexcfg or by modifying the Rex initialization file. See Feith Rexcfg User Guide or Feith Rex Manual for more information. Rex usually starts automatically when the server machine starts up. To start Rex on Windows, open the Services module, select the service called FeithRulesEngine, and start the service.
