Dual Enrollment RN to BSN & RN to BSN Frequently Asked Ques ons 1. What is the difference between Dual Enrollment RN to BSN and RN to BSN? The Dual Enrollment RN to BSN Op on is designed for students currently enrolled in an Associate Degree in Nursing Program at a Colorado Community College who would like to begin working on their BSN while studying to obtain their RN license (see pg. 5 for specific FAQ s). The RN to BSN Op on is designed for students who already have an ac ve, unrestricted RN license and would like to obtain their BSN (see pg.6 for specific FAQ s). 2. What will transfer to UCCS? You can transfer up to 58 general educa on credit hours from a community college. A maximum of 90 credit hours may be accepted from a community college and a university (see pg. 2 for a list of required courses) 3. How many credit hours must I complete at UCCS to graduate? You must complete at minimum of 30 credit hours at UCCS to be eligible for gradua on. 4. What is the minimum GPA requirement for admission? You must have a cumula ve GPA of 2.5 from ALL colleges a ended to be eligible for admission. This includes ALL completed college courses, not just pre-nursing courses. Only classes with C or higher are eligible for transfer credit. 5. How long does it take to get admi ed? You should receive a le er of acceptance about 4 weeks a er you apply. 6. How long does it take to graduate? The average student takes about 2.5 years taking 1-2 courses per semester. The Dual Enrollment program is designed to decrease the me by at least 2-3 semesters. 7. What is the cost? The cost of tui on depends on several factors, including residency classifica on (resident/non-resident), number of credits being taken, and what level student you are (freshman/sophomore/junior/senior). To get the most current tui on rates, go to h p://www.uccs.edu/~bursar **Please note: There is an addi- onal $100 online fee per course. Dual Enrollment students can request financial aid from their home college. (See pg. 5, ques on 3 for more specific informa on about Financial Aid) 8. Are scholarships available? 9. Are the programs fully online? With the excep on of Pathophysiology (NURS 3010) and the clinical por on of Community Health that is 3 credit hours (96 contact hours), the program is en rely online. Pathophysiology can be taken on-site at UCCS (NURS 3010), or online/on-site through your community college (BIOL 216). If you are not a student at a community college in Colorado, you can take this course online through Colorado Community College (BIOL 216) h p://www.ccconline.org/.**please note: The clinical por on of Community Health can be completed in your home community. 10. What are the required courses? The general educa on courses can be taken at UCCS or at your community college and transferred in. You must complete at least 30 credit hours at UCCS to be eligible for gradua on. All of the NURS courses must be taken at UCCS (with the possible excep on of Pathophysiology). 11. My college has different names for some of the general educa on courses. How do I know if the courses I have taken are equivalent to UCCS courses? Will my courses transfer? Transferability of credits is determined by the Office of Admissions, but the following list of required general educa on courses and their UCCS equivalents should help you determine if your coursework will transfer.** Please note: The following is a list of Colorado Community College courses. 12. What nursing courses do I need to take first? NURS 3040: Pa erns of Knowing is the first core nursing course and MUST be taken first. See ques on 10 for the recommended course sequence. 13. Can I complete my General Educa on and NURS/HSCI courses at the same me? Yes, you can complete your General Educa on courses while comple ng your NURS/HSCI courses. 14. Can I take the general educa on classes at UCCS? Yes, general educa on classes can be taken at UCCS. Some but not all courses are offered online. 15. What are the MSN Core Elec ves? MSN Core Elec ves can be taken in place of the undergraduate-level NURS or HSCI elec ves. These courses are applied toward a BSN AND MSN. The MSN Core Elec ve courses are NURS 6110: Advanced Nursing Prac ce and Health Care Policy and NURS 6740: Advanced Pathophysiology. Each class is 3 credit hours and will fulfill the 6 credit hours of required NURS/HSCI elec ves 16. I applied and was admi ed to the Pre-Professional Nursing major. Why? This is a minor issue and one that is easily fixed once you are admi ed. Being admi ed to the Pre- Professional Nursing major usually occurs because: The admission evaluator was not aware you were applying for the Dual Enrollment RN to BSN or RN to BSN Program. Something is missing from your packet a copy of your RN license or Le er of Recommenda on from the Nursing Director of your current community college. 17. I have never taken an online course before. What is your advice? Start by taking one class so you become familiar with learning in an online environment. 18. Why UCCS? This program is designed for students currently enrolled in an Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) Program. Dual Enrollment means you con nue to take ADN courses while also taking courses at UCCS that count toward your BSN. 2. What are the admission requirements for the Dual Enrollment RN to BSN Op on? A cumula ve GPA of 2.5 or higher from ALL colleges a ended. A le er of support from a faculty member in your current nursing program. Complete one semester of your ADN coursework. 3. What about financial aid? Financial aid is evaluated and awarded on a case-by-case basis. If you are admi ed to the Dual Enrollment RN to BSN Op on and decide to delay enrollment, you must no fy your nursing advisor. We strongly encourage you to carefully consider your workload before applying to the program. 5. What are the applica on deadline dates? The applica on deadlines are: July 5th (fall admission) December 5th (spring admission), and May 5th (summer admission). Please apply by the deadline date for the semester you plan to enroll. 4. This program is designed for students who currently have an ac ve, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse. 2. What are the admission requirements for the RN to BSN Op on? A cumula ve GPA of 2.5 or higher from ALL colleges a ended. RN s within 3 years of gradua on may apply for entry without clinical prac ce experience. RN s who graduated more than 3 years ago must have at least 1,000 hours of clinical experience within the last 3 years. A le er documen ng those 1,000 hours of clinical prac ce must be signed and on the le erhead of the agency where the 1000 hours were earned. RN s who graduated more than 3 years ago and DO NOT have at least 1,000 hours of clinical experience must complete an approved RN Refresher course prior to admission to the program.
