1 Johnson County Community College Transfer Program to the University of Kansas School of Nursing RN to B.S. in Nursing Catalog Contact: Jill R. Weishaubt, Undergraduate Programs Consultant Phone: (913) Web: The RN to BSN Program at the University of Kansas provides JCCC Associate of Applied Science (AAS) nursing program graduate a seamless pathway to the completion of the BSN degree. The RN to BSN consists of 120 credit hours, 60 of which are primarily liberal arts and science courses. The remaining 60 credits required make up the nursing major. Credit for the nursing major courses is earned through a combination of portfolio examination of AAS coursework and KU BSN coursework. The course list below details the 60 credit hours of liberal arts courses required prior to matriculation into the RN to BSN program at KU. Admissions Requirements: Applicants must provide proof of a current RN license. A total of sixty (60) semester hours of preparatory work in an accredited liberal arts college with a minimum grade point average of 2.5 is required. Courses with grades of D or F do not count toward the 60 hours. Admission is competitive; applicants are not guaranteed admission. Check the website for additional information. GPA Calculation: When calculating GPA, all non-vocational and non-remedial courses from all colleges and universities attended are considered. Wit the exception of Intermediate Algebra, remedial courses are not factored into the GPA. When a course is repeated, both the original and the new grade are factored into the GPA. With the exception of And courses, courses that do not transfer to KU are not factored into the GPA. Application Deadline: To have an application considered for admission, all parts of the application (including transcripts and references) must be submitted by the deadline appropriate for your anticipated start date. The following deadlines should be observed: November 1 for spring semester admission, April 1 for summer session admission, and July 1 for all semester admission. Pass/Fail Policy: Not acceptable for JCCC courses. Updated 5/2015

6 Additional Electives Necessary to meet 60 credit hours (typically 9-12 hours): Electives can be chosen according to the student s particular interest or needs. Electives must be transferable to KU. Examples of such elective areas of study are foreign language, philosophy, literature, creative writing, history, speech, physics, mathematics, political science, biological sciences, and economics. A maximum of 8 non-liberal arts credits will be accepted in the 60 hours required for admission. These 8 credits may be courses in physical education, first-aid, health education, technique courses in art and music, and professional fields other than nursing such as journalism and business. JCCC students have the option to complete two of the RN to BSN program courses at either JCCC or KU. Taking these courses at JCCC will NOT reduce the total credit hours required to earn your degree. If BIOL 227 Pathophysiology and/or BIOL 240 Pharmacology are taken at JCCC, these courses count as electives and are applied towards the 60 total credit hours of liberal arts courses required. These courses must be completed prior to enrolling at KU. You will not be required to repeat these courses at KU, but will be required to complete nursing specific electives at KU. If NURS 320 Pathophysiology and/or NURS 326 Pharmacology are taken at KU, these courses fulfill nursing department requirements and do not count towards your liberal arts credit hours. Both courses are taken following admission to KU. All 60 credit hours of your required electives must be fulfilled by JCCC liberal arts courses prior to admission to KU.
