JGHS and JGSC organizations, clubs, teams, community groups from our surrounding towns, civic groups, and churches will participate in this major fundraising event. Groups plan to provide food, games, special events, activities, and entertainment. The chapter will once again be having our booth, where we will be offering tasty milkshakes, beef jerky, and past years FFA t-shirts. During this fun weekend, we will be hosting a free Petting Zoo on Sunday and a Kiddie Tractor Pull located in front of the agriculture shop on Saturday afternoon. Also, our greenhouse will be open all weekend for you to come pick up your annual FFA mums! Soil Judging Maggie Hesters is helping us to Amplify our chapter success and achieve our goal of competing at the state contest in the soil judging CDE. Our chapter has done soils for years and it has grown to be a regular contest for the John Glenn FFA Chapter. This contest requires you to learn about the characteristics of soil and be able to classify certain soil. We encourage all members to participate in this worthwhile CDE. Practices have been set to be on Tuesdays from 3:15-5:00 in the agriculture room. Livestock Skill-a-thon Continuing to Go All Out, the John Glenn FFA Chapter will be adding a new tradition for this 2015 year.we are introducing a new activity for our members. On September 19th, members will be traveling down to Purdue University to compete in a contest that consists of meats, hay, fleece judging, livestock feed and breed identification, and equipment identification. We encourage all members to try this new activity and help us ignite this new tradition! To start out, our fall mums will be for sale in the greenhouse very soon. They will be sold at Falloween as well as after school on certain days. Contact us for more information on when you can come and pick up your mums! Also beginning shortly we will be selling our beef jerky during school to all JGHS students and at falloween along with our chocolate milkshakes. So help support the John Glenn FFA Chapter by enjoying our awesome fundraisers. New Parli Schedule The Chapter Meeting CDE has been moved to first semester. That being said practices will start in the next couple weeks. The district contest has not been announced but section is December 8th and state will be held in January.

They will put on their official dress one last time and walk across the stage at Louisville and become part of a very exclusive group! Each year, the National FFA Organization honors FFA members who show the utmost dedication to the organization through their desire to develop their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. The American FFA Degree is bestowed upon a select group of students in recognition of their years of academic and professional excellence. This year, 3,434 American Degrees will be awarded. Alacyn Cox, Betta McGaughey, and Haley Verhaeghe, alumni of the John Glenn FFA Chapter, will be awarded the American FFA Degree at the 88th National FFA Convention & Expo Oct. 28-31 in Louisville, Ky. Sponsored by ADM Crop Risk Services, Case IH, DuPont Pioneer, Elanco, Farm Credit, and Syngenta as a special project of the National FFA Foundation, the award recognizes demonstrated ability and outstanding achievements in agricultural business, production, processing, or service programs. To be eligible, FFA members must have earned and productively invested $10,000 through a supervised agricultural experience program in which they start, own or hold a professional position in an existing agriculture enterprise. Recipients must also complete 50 hours of community service and demonstrate outstanding leadership abilities and civic involvement. Each recipient of the American FFA Degree receives a gold American FFA Degree key, certificate and matted frame after being recognized on stage at that national convention. Tune in, and watch the convention live on RFD TV and support the John Glenn FFA Chapter s outstanding members.

District Kickoff The John Glenn FFA Chapter Chatter has a electronic version! Email, Chapter Reporter, Jason Gill to be put on the newsletter mailing list! Jason Gill jgill@jgsc.k12.in.us District 2 Kickoff is a fun night hosted by our local district officers to make friends and meet other members from different chapters. Indiana State Officers, Kenzie Kretzmeier, Annalee Witte, Brett Roberts, Mason Gordon, Sean Harrington, Courtney Adam, Joshua Calhoun will also be there to help make the event a success. The event will be held at Bremen High School on September 24th. All members are welcome to come join in on this fun night. We will leave promptly after school and grab a bite to eat on the way. Moving here from the Royal FFA Chapter in Texas, we would like to give him a warm welcome to John Glenn! Chapter Kickoff FUN! We had our annual Chapter Kickoff Wednesday September 2nd. With 30 or so new members and lots of help from older members we had a night full of fun, to help welcome our new members. A big thank you goes out to the officer team and several older members who planned this event. Below are some pictures of the fun! FALLOWEEN PARADE! The Chapter will be having a group of members walking through the opening parade, Friday of the Falloween Fest. The parade starts at 5:15, come and support the John Glenn FFA Chapter! All members are welcome to participate. See you next month!
