Middle School Agriculture Science Program The first year for the Agriculture Science exploratory class at the middle school is off to a great start. Students are already utilizing their online textbooks and participating in hands-on activities. Students will continue to be exposed to agricultural education through classroom instruction and laboratory experiments. Student leadership opportunities will also be available to students who choose to enroll in the FFA.
Middle School Agriculture Science Curriculum 7 th Grade Curriculum Plant Science Agribusiness Environmental Science Food Science 8 th Grade Curriculum Animal Science Horticulture Science Hydroponics Agriculture Mechanics Basic Carpentry Basic Electricity Machinery and Equipment Precision Farming
7 th Grade Agriculture Science The horticulture industry relies on plant propagation to produce the plants they need. Plant propagation is the reproduction of new plants from seeds and vegetative parts like leaves, stems, or roots. Seventh grade students are able to take stem cuttings from an existing plant, and then place the cutting into a new pot with soil. With proper care, students will begin to see and understand how a simple stem cutting from one plant can create an entirely new plant that is an exact genetic clone of the parent plant.
8 th Grade Agriculture Science The most basic needs of human beings include food, clothing, and shelter. In this ag tivity, students learn how these basic provisions have changed over time. Students work together to provide sufficient resources for their group to survive under 3 different circumstances: Hunting and Gathering Early Agriculture Life in the 21 st Century Students are able to see how advancements in agricultural production have made life and survival easier for humans over time.
Middle School Agriculture Science: MYCaert Online Database MyCaert is an online student and teacher database. Students have access to class PowerPoints, quizzes, and E- Units. Students have access to this online database within their Agriculture Science classroom, and they can also access them outside of school using their individual log-in and password.
Middle School Agriculture Science: An E-Unit is a unit of an online textbook E-Units E-Units are updated so the textbook never goes out of date E-Units provide additional links so that students can continue to learn additional information about class topics
Middle School Agriculture Science: Online Quizzes Students will take quizzes online. Accommodations can easily be made for students on an individual basis and can only be seen by that student.
Agriculture and the National FFA Organization FFA is an integral part of the agriculture program. Students who take an agriculture class are encouraged to become active members of the FFA. Classroom instruction is used by students to compete in FFA activities called Career Development Events (CDE). Students will then take information learned in class and at CDE s and begin a supervised agricultural experience, which allows students to work directly in a career they are interested in pursuing after high school.
Summer Starts 14 FFA members traveled to Springfield to attend the Illinois State FFA Convention Several students were recognized for their outstanding achievements State Winning Horse Judging team Two members receive their State FFA Degree One member received his American FFA Degree And more
but FFA Doesn t Stop FFA and agriculture students: Grew 1000 mums Attended a Horse Judging Clinic Helped build raised vegetable beds at the Benjamin Stephenson House Participated at the VO-AG Fair in Jerseyville Participated in Officer Training School Participated in Illinois State FFA Leadership Camp
FFA Activities
FFA Section 15 and Illinois State Horse Judging Champs Students also competed at the National FFA Convention and the American Quarter Horse World Championships.
