Why a Review Course? The Board of Governors Examination in Healthcare Management (BOG Exam) is comprehensive, consisting of 170 questions testing 10 core knowledge areas. To do your best on the exam, you need to be thoroughly prepared, and this 2 ½ day review course will help you. This course will provide you with a breadth of information across all 10 areas, as well as testing strategies, sample questions and a better understanding of the examination s content, structure and scoring. Whether you use the course to set the foundation for your study or you take it as the culmination of your review efforts, upon completion of this course you will be able to determine the areas in which you have mastered and where further study is needed all in a systematic and enjoyable manner. Special Bonus for Course Participants: Participants in the review course will receive a waiver of the $200 fee to take the Board of Governors Examination. The waiver must be used within six months of the course date or at the live exam administration during the next Congress on Healthcare Leadership in Chicago. Why Take the Exam? Passing the BOG Exam is one step on the path to becoming board certified as a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. With the FACHE credential after your name, you demonstrate your competence, credibility and dedication to healthcare management excellence. To be authorized to take the BOG Exam, you must first complete the FACHE application. To complete your application and be authorized to take the exam, you do not need to meet all the Fellow requirements. At the time of application you only need: A master s or other advanced degree (Through 12/31/08, a bachelor s degree is acceptable.) A healthcare management position and two years of healthcare management experience (If applying without a postbaccalaureate degree, you must have eight years of experience by 12/31/08.) Three references from current Fellows, including one structured interview A completed FACHE application, including payment of the $250 fee (application valid for three years) The complete list of Fellow requirements and an application are available in the Credentialing area of ache.org. However, you may enroll in the BOG Exam Review Course prior to completing a Fellow application. SARAH FONTENOT, JD Sarah Fontenot is a lawyer, nurse and educator, and currently on faculty at Trinity University s Department of Health Administration. She is a frequent speaker in the Health Law program jointly sponsored by the Southern Medical Association and Auburn University. BRUCE FRIED, PhD Bruce Fried is an associate professor in the Department of Health Policy and Administration in the School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
