Let s get started Install AppsWatch AppsWatch has three components: 1. AppsWatch - installation creates the Base the virtual console which opens in a browser and from which performance testing monitors are configured and managed. 2. ScenarioStation - the station simulating real-user interactions against the application under test with a specified frequency 3. ScenarioBuilder - the test scripting tool that understands and interacts with any application accessible from a graphical user interface. AppsWatch is a flexible solution that can be installed in a variety of manners. For your trial we recommend a configuration in which the Base is installed on one Windows PC and ScenarioStation and ScenarioBuilder are installed on another. Install the components in the above listed order. Note that you may use physical or virtual PCs. Click here for a video guide through the installation of the three AppsWatch components
Create a Scenario Scenarios are the action sequences which emulate your real user activity within your application, and are used by AppsWatch Application Monitors for performance testing. Creating your first scenario is simple. If you know how to use your application, you know how to script a scenario with ScenarioBuilder. 1. Double-click the ScenarioBuilder shortcut to launch the splash screen. 2. Click. 3. Name your scenario and choose Click on app icon button. 4. ScenarioBuilder will prompt you to capture an image of the desktop icon that will launch your application. The Scenario Recorder will then launch. Record a simple series of steps in your application. Click here for a video demonstration of starting a scenario with the Click on app icon method 5. Click Stop on the Scenario Recorder to halt recording. ScenarioBuilder opens in the edit view, displaying the steps which you have recorded. From here you may manually edit (add, remove) steps.
6. Playback scenario (as many times as necessary) to ensure that it performs as expected. 7. Set reference time (in execution report window after a successful scenario playback). 8. Save scenario. 9. Send to Controller. Done and done! ScenarioBuilder offers a rich array of Actions to emulate virtually any user activity in your application. Start simple, there s plenty of time to dig into ScenarioBuilder s sophisticated feature set. Click here for the complete ScenarioBuilder video tutorial series
Create an Application Monitor An Application Monitor determines what (scenario) is executed; from where (ScenarioStation) it is executed; and how often (determined by Group) it is executed. Each Application Monitor controls the execution of one scenario on one ScenarioStation. Double-click the AppsWatch shortcut to launch the Base in your default browser. Log in to AppsWatch (user: admin / pw: admin) From the Application Monitors menu select Add New Application. Select a Group from the drop-down list to establish the frequency how often the Scenario is executed (i.e. Every 5 minutes), and the profile monitoring schedule (i.e. 24/7) associated with the Monitor. Specify an Alias (name) for this Monitor Select the ScenarioStation where this Scenario will be played. Select the Scenario which will be played. Click Submit button.
Observe Application Monitor Click the Stations tab in the Base to display the ScenarioStation. You can observe the playback of scenarios as they execute in accordance with the Application Monitor that you created. Click the Monitors tab in the Base and select Applications from the drop down box.
Expand the Group and highlight the Scenario. AppsWatch provides a full page of graphs, charts, and SLA statistics about the performance of your Application Monitor.
