Business Services Curriculum Framework Stage 6 List Business Services Curriculum Framework Stage 6 List The principal resources for planning and implementing courses from the Business Services Curriculum Framework are the syllabus documents themselves and the endorsed components of the Business Services Training Package. Part A of the syllabus contains general advice about the Business Services Curriculum Framework and describes course structures and requirements, including work placement. For HSC accreditation the delivery of all courses in Business Services must comply with the structures and requirements described in Part A. Part B of the syllabus contains the text of the units of competency from the Business Services Training Package that comprise the AQF Certificate II in Business. Part B must be used in the delivery of 120 and 240 indicative hour HSC courses in Business Services. Units of competency included in extension courses should be accessed directly from the Business Services Training Package. The syllabus documentation for the Business Services Curriculum Framework also includes a Competency Record for recording assessment activities and student achievement of competency. The use of the Competency Record is recommended but is not mandatory. The syllabus support document contains materials and advice that is intended to assist teachers and trainers in the delivery of courses within the framework and in the assessment of student competency. Parts A and B of the syllabus are available in hard copy from the Board of Studies and may also be accessed on the Board s website (http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au). The Competency Record, the support documents and the resource list may be accessed through the website. Below is a list of training package materials and additional resources that may be suitable for supporting the implementation of the framework. Care should be taken in the use of resources that are not designed to address the Business Services Training Package. The resource list is a starting point for teachers and is not a definitive list of resources for delivering the Business Services Curriculum Framework. 3

Business Services Curriculum Framework Stage 6 List Training Package Endorsed Components National Business Services Training Package BSB01. The endorsed components of the Business Services Training Package are Australian National Training Authority (ANTA). ANTA copyright conditions allow teachers and trainers to copy materials for use within their own training organisation or a workplace where training is being conducted. The exact text of ANTA copyright conditions is reproduced in the front of Parts A and B of the syllabus. The units of competency from the training package of the 240-hour course from Certificate II and III in Business are reproduced in Part B of the syllabus. The units of competency from Certificate III in Business that are included in Business Services - Extension Courses should be accessed directly from the Business Services Training Package. ISBN 1 86366 449 1 This resource was developed in consultation with industry and with school and TAFE systems and Boards of Studies across Australia. It has been distributed to all secondary schools. It contains information relevant to the delivery and assessment for Certificate II in Business, case studies on the establishment and use of realistic business environments and a number of sample learning resources, which may also be used or adapted as integrated assessment tasks and as exemplars for developing other resources and activities. It includes resources and activities that address Information Technology units of competency related to the use of computer software and document production. ISBN 0 7313 8874 7 The Industry Curriculum Frameworks Information Package (ICFIP) is the implementation guide for schools implementing courses within industry curriculum frameworks. It provides information on teacher qualification and resource requirements and quality assurance checklists. Available via the New HSC website http://www.newhsc.schools.nsw.edu.au/ These resources were developed to address the previous Administration Training Package but will support the distance education delivery of courses within the Business Services Curriculum Framework. The Clearinghouse is a service provided by TAFE NSW on behalf of the Department of Education and Training. Lists proofreading symbols (page 2494) AS 2708-2001 Keyboarding speed tests Sets out conditions for setting, administering and marking standard tests of typing skills and accuracy, a sample test and format for a statement of achievement. Note that the standard does not specify particular typing speeds but specifies accuracy of 98%. AS 3549-1989 Production typing tests Refers to testing at more advanced skill levels and provides proofreading symbols. Note that neither the Business Services Training Package nor the syllabus specifies particular typing speeds for the achievement of competence. Employers do specify speed and accuracy requirements for some clerical administrative jobs. Note that the Australian Typing Standards are currently under review and will be replaced by new standards that more accurately reflect current technology. 10
