7 THE APPRENTICESHIP ( dual system ) Entrance requirements: to be over compulsory school age (successful completion of lower secondary school is not a condition) Duration: 2 4 years (in most cases 3 years) - traininig in the company - in part time vocational school - 8 to 10 weeks in school and rest of the year in the company In the part time vocational school: ⅔ occupation related technical tuition ⅓ general education 7

8 THE FINANCING OF THE APPRENTICESHIP Eucation and training in the part time vocational school: paid by the state Training in the enterprise: paid by the company Costs: remuneration insurance cost for material working time for trainers administrative costs 8

9 APPRENTICESHIP CONTRACT Pupils have to apply for a vacancy before finishing school. Career guidance offices of the labour market service and the apprenticeship offices of the Economic Chambers of each province help to find apprenticeship placements. After a successful application, the apprenticeship trainingagreement is concluded between the apprentice or his/her legal representative and the training master of the training enterprise. It has to be in line with the provisions of the Vocational Training Act ( Berufsbildungsgesetz ). The apprentice receives from the company an apprenticeship remuneration. The minimum level of the remuneration is negotiated by the social partners, i.e. the employer s associations and the trade unions. 9

12 Inclusive (integrative) Vocational Training (introduced in 2003) Two possibilities: Prolongation of the apprenticeship period total: 4000 (in 2011) 2766 work in enterprises 1234 work in training centers Acquisition of a partial qualification total: 1507 (in 2011) 615 work in enterprises 892 work in training centers 12

13 Target Groups Youths with special educational needs after finishing their compulsory school attendance Youths who were unable to graduate from secondary school or who finished with negative results Youths who have a disability as specified in the Vocational training Act as well as Youths who cannot find a place for apprenticeship for other reasons 13

15 Career Training Assistance Is an additional service for young people who need special support as they are undergoing an Inclusiv Vocational Training (IVT) Guidance with the IVT through career training assistance is compulsory 15

16 Goals and tasks of Career Training Assistance Support during the completion of apprenticeships/ requirements of the articles of apprenticeship Supporting businesses in their fundraising efforts Regular contact with businesses and vocational schools Organization of teaching aids during school and between cycles at the vocational school Organization of the Job Coaching program at the workplace Providing continuous guidance for the young person right up to the completion of training Crisis Intervention 16
