BT Business Email Quick Start Guide Follow these 8 simple steps to set up your BT Business Email and start using your email quickly and easily.
1 Check your licence is allocated to the email account In order to start using your package, you need to ensure that your Plus Organise and Share licence is allocated to the email account. This applies whether you want to use the @btconnect.com email address or your own custom domain e.g. @yourcompany.com. To allocate the licence, log into www.myoffice.bt.com with your primary username and password these were sent to you by welcome email and letter. When logged in, click Email from within Manage Services section. This will take you to the Manage Mailboxes section.
2 Checking and allocating a licence to an existing user Within Manage Mailboxes there will be a list of all mailboxes within your organisation. Select the mailbox which you want to upgrade to Plus Organise & Share. From the list of available actions, select Edit licence Click on the email package you want to select and the Email storage level from the drop down menu (ensure it s larger than your current mailbox) then click the Continue button. It will then confirm the change is successful.
3 Using a domain-based email address e.g. Sales@yourcompany.com If you have a domain name and wish to associate it with your email then the domain name either needs to be: Purchased from BT In this scenario the domain can be easily paired with your @btconnect.com address. Purchased from a third party domain provider Option 1 - You can keep your domain with your domain provider and register the domain with BT for Mail Relay. In this case email will be directed into the btconnect email. For more details go to, Transferring domains http://btbusiness.custhelp.com/app/home/c/1995,2002 In all cases above the domain names will need to be associated to the @btconnect.com email address to display the domain name email address for both incoming email and outgoing email. Action taken under Option 1 or 2 above will need to be completed before you can continue.
4 Configure to receive using a domain name Within Manage mailboxes, select Manage Alias. Either select an existing alias e.g. postmaster@mycompany.co.uk or, to create a new alias, click the Add Alias button You are now able to create a new alias e.g. user@mycompany.co.uk and associate this alias to a btconnect mailbox. When selected, click the Continue button. Note: The Manage Alias link will only be present if there is a domain registered to the organisation. To purchase a domain click on Domains within Manage Services.
5 Configure to send using a domain name Within Manage mailboxes, select Manage From email address To change the from address, select an appropriate alias from the dropdown selection then click the Continue button
6 Downloading and/or configuring Outlook 2007 on your PC Within Manage mailboxes, click on Download and Configure Outlook. If you have Outlook 2003 it will upgrade it to Outlook 2007. Click on Outlook 2007 download and configuration tool. Important: We advise that you back up your emails if you are already using Outlook Will only download.net framework to early Win XP machines Make a note of the key code (or copy) if you intend to download Outlook 2007
7 Downloading and/or configuring Outlook 2007 Step 1 The first step checks the PC is ready to receive the download/upgrade to Outlook 2007 and configure. Click on Download configuration tool. Click Run on the two security warning screens and then Next. When the tool has downloaded click Continue and the browser will restart. Navigate back to the Outlook 2007 download and configuration tool via my www.myoffice.bt.com.
8 Downloading and/or configuring Outlook 2007 Step 2 The second stage of the tool will upgrade/download Outlook (you will be asked to enter the software key code) and then configure it for access you will need to enter your @btconnect.com username and password when prompted. Click on the Click here to complete configuration button. Once the tool has finished installing and configuring Outlook 2007, the Installation Complete dialog is displayed. Click on the Close button. Open Outlook 2007 and enter your username (username@btconnect.com) and password. You are prompted to enter them twice before Outlook starts.
