Dear Parents, Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season with your families and friends. Now it's time to get back to reality, get up early, go to school, go to work, and come to tutoring. Please let us know how your kids did on their finals. The second semester is upon us and it will be a lot harder, and more time consuming than the last semester. The pace will pick up, the work will become more challenging. It is very important to keep up with the grades and let us know right away if there is a problem. Don't wait until it is too late. Be consistent with the tutoring to keep the grades up. JASON'S ACHIEVEMENT Most of you know me as the owner of Tutorials for Excellence. Of course, many know me as a personal friend. Today, I am a proud mom who wants to share joyous news about our son, Jason. He had a dream! When he was younger he wanted to be a Band Director. Jason is currently in his 18th year as a Band Director. He has led the band to accomplish many new accolades, and looks forward to a performance in Chicago this Spring. He has been named to the top 50 "Directors Who Make a Difference" for the national SB&O (School Band and Orchestra) magazine. Way to represent Texas! To read the article click on the link below. SAT/ACT/HSPT/EOC Come on in and achieve great results. Packages are always welcome!! WINTER TEST DATES SAT March 5th

ACT February 6th End of Course 5 tests remaining. 10 taken away from State level. Don't let these critical dates creep up on your student! Did you know... Students' SAT scores typically increase 10%-20% by properly preparing for the SAT. A higher SAT score means more college options. A higher SAT score could result in thousands of dollars in scholarships. Our SAT PREP class builds confidence, reviews key concepts and strategies, and helps our students reach their SAT goals! Please plan ahead and do not wait until the senior year to take the tests. It is so stressful on the students and families. You will need to send your letters of recommendation in the fall of your senior year. When to take SAT and ACT: The kids should be taking the test in their junior year at least twice. The college will accept the higher score. If you are a junior you should be taking it in the fall of your junior year. Depending on the results you can take it again in December. There is also an SAT in the spring. Practice makes perfect. The first time is the hardest.

JANUARY IMPORTANT DATES *Saturday January 16th I will be OUT!! *Saturday January 23rd I will be OUT!! *Saturday January 30th I will be IN!! *We will be IN on Monday, January 18th, on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Here is your chance to catch up on tutoring. WILD WEST BREW FEST April 23, 2016

WEBSITE WALK LIKE MADD MAY 21, 2016 Oyster Creek Park 9:30am- 12:00pm We walk to end drunk driving and in honor of Todd and Ralynn. Will you take up the fight by joining us at Walk Like MADD? WALK LIKE MADD is your chance to do something about drunk driving in our community. This year, thousands of people in over 60 cities around the nation will participate in 5k events to eliminated drunk driving from our roadways. You can help MADD eliminate drunk driving by signing up to walk with us and "Todd's Troopers". You can even be involved

without attending the event by signing up as a virtual walker or making a donation to Todd's Troopers. CLICK TO HELP PAROLE LETTER WRITING CAMPAIGN As holiday times are behind us, I know it is time for me to ask you again to write another letter. If you have never written a letter, even better. We need for My Nguyen to serve his full sentence of 10 years in prison. Your caring letters, and some very gut wrenching ones, have kept him in for the last 3 years. "Parole Denied" are the words we want to hear. Be a voice, reach out, save a life. We will know whether parole will be denied in April. I would like you to have them to me by January 29th so I can send them all together to make a stronger statement. If he gets out in April he will only have served 9 years. Do you want this man out early?? I owe this to Todd and Ralynn! Please help!! You may hand write them and mail or email them to me: Tutorials for Excellence 955 Dairy Ashford, Suite 212 Carol-07@att.net Houston, TX 77079 Here are the rules of the letter. Line up the following information on the left side of the page: Ms. Angela McCown Victim Services Director Texas Department of Criminal Justice 8712 Shoal Creek Blvd., Suite 265 Austin, TX 78757-6899

Re: My Nguyen State ID # 07361676 TDCJ ID# 01472347 DATE Dear Ms. McCown: Speak from your heart. How did Todd's death affect you? How do you feel about him receiving early parole instead of 8 to 10 years as sentenced? You're a parent. Do you feel like he should be given a reduced sentence? Do you think he's still a menace to society? Do you think he will come out reformed, or do you think he could get out and go on to kill someone else? I honestly don't know because I receive no information. All of you are so precious to our family. You have been there over the last 7 ½ years. You have given me the strength to go on and love when needed. Thank you so much for writing these letters. I know in my heart they will help. Please include any pictures, letters or articles. That would be a great help. Many thanks, Carol MISSION STATEMENT WE BELIEVE learning is a journey and excellence is our standard. WE BELIEVE that students learn more when they are treated

as individuals, not as a group. WE BELIEVE in being an advocate for our students. We communicate with teachers and schools. WE BELIEVE in and offer a safe, comfortable, and nurturing environment to make your child feel successful. MOST IMPORTANTLY WE BELIEVE in discovering and implementing connections between students, their abilities, aspirations and their total environment that will enable them to have a meaningful and productive life!
