Setting up the router If you have been supplied with a Demon Voice over Broadband disk you can use this to set up your VoIP service. Just follow the simple 1-2-3 step instructions below to set up your Demon VoIP service. 1. Attach your standard analogue phone handset to Phone Port 1 (marked with a phone handset icon) on the back of the router, using the supplied white VoIP phone adapter if necessary. 2. Attach the supplied white telephone cable from the LINE port of the router to the phone side of your ADSL filter (or into an installed ADSL faceplate if you have one). 3. Insert the supplied Demon Voice over Broadband CD and follow the on-screen instructions to set up your VoIP service. Alternatively you can set up your VoIP service manually (see Choosing a VoIP service provider below.) Choosing a VoIP service provider Your will need to sign up with a VoIP service provider that supports SIP (Session Initiation Protocol), which is the most commonly used protocol for VoIP. They will provide you with their server settings as well as your account details. Examples of server settings that you might be provided with: SIP Username - SIP Password SIP Proxy - Outbound Proxy Listen RTP Port - Listen SIP Port We have used VoIP User (http://www.voipuser.org) as an example for this guide. Setting up the Voipuser.org VoIP service on Billion VoIP routers Setting up VoIP accounts on the Billion VoIP series routers is easy, and usually only involves entering the VoIP server address, port number (usually 5060 for SIP) and your username and password. 1) Log into your Billion router s web interface by typing http://192.168.1.254 on your browser s address bar and pressing OK or Enter.
2) Then enter the username and password to log into the router (default: admin / admin) and click OK. 3) You have now successfully logged onto the router s Status page. Now click on VoIP on the left hand side menu bar. 4) Click on General Settings.
5) On the General Settings page you will need to enable SIP if it is not already enabled, and input the settings as shown below. Usually the only field you will need to complete is the Registrar Address field (in this case: sip.voipuser.org). Scroll down and click on Apply at the bottom. 6) Next click on Phone Port on the left hand side menu bar.
7) On the Phone Configuration page you will see phone port 1 and 2. Click Edit on Phone Port 1, as we will only setup one phone port in this example. (For the Billion 7401VGP you will only have 1 phone port option.) 8) Enter your username and password details as provided by your VoIP service provider. Your username should be entered both in the Phone Number field and the Authentication Username field as illustrated below. Your password should also be entered twice, in the Authentication Password and Confirm Password fields. Enter a Display Name or number for your reference. Now click Apply.
9) You should now be back on the Phone Configuration page and you should see that Phone Port 1 is now shown as Registered. You have now successfully setup your Voipuser account on your Billion VoIP router. The final step is to save your configuration by pressing SAVE CONFIG at the bottom right of your screen. 10) Click Apply to confirm that you would like to save your configuration.
11) Once the router has successfully saved your configuration it will inform you with the Save Config to FLASH Successful message. 12) This completes the initial VoIP configuration. Make sure your standard analogue telephone is connected to the router s FXS port 1 (with the telephone icon) as we configured phone port 1 in this example, using the white VoIP telephone adapter provided if necessary. Now you can start experiencing your new VoIP service. If you are having difficulties connecting to your VoIP service, then we suggest you contact your VoIP service provider for further advice.
