Master in International Finance Berlin School of Economics and Law The Master in International Finance at the Berlin School of Economics and Law is designed for students from Germany and abroad who are interested in an international and interdisciplinary programme in finance. Applicants are expected to have a Bachelor or equivalent qualification and the requisite basic knowledge of finance skills. The Master programme comprises advanced finance courses enabling students to expand and deepen their theoretical and practical skills in both traditional and innovative financial management methods. The programme focuses equally on the two areas of corporate and capital market finance. Graduates of the Master in International Finance will have acquired extensive expertise in finance and the skills to effectively take on demanding financial management tasks in a variety of sectors including the public sector. Courses are predominantly structured as interactive seminars, with teaching entirely in English. The small group size facilitates direct dialogue and closer contact between the students and the academic staff. The (BSEL) is one of the largest Universities of Applied Sciences in the city. It has an academic staff of about 200 professors and approxi mately 840 lecturers, plus nearly 280 research and admini strative personnel, committed to realising about 50 study programmes. The BSEL portfolio provides a wide range of professional qualifications. The University forms an academic centre specialised in business and administration skills for the public and private sector, as well as public security, the law and engineering. The majority of programmes lead to a Bachelor or Master degree, have been quality controlled and bear the seal of the Accreditation Council. The BSEL offers a pleasant, modern atmosphere that is ideal for studying. The programmes comprise small class courses where each student has a chance to interact with the faculty and their peers. The campus offers well equipped seminar and lecture rooms, an extensive library and several fully equipped computer rooms. Key facts and content Programme Full-time Duration 3 semesters (for applicants with 210 credit points and a proof of a placement about 6 months at least) 4 semesters (for applicants with 180 credit points and without a proof of a placement about 6 months at least) Start 1 October (Winter Semester) Structure The first semester consists of four mandatory courses providing the essential skills in the programme s main areas: International Corporate Finance and Financial Analysis Econometrics Financial Economics Corporate Financial Theory In the International Corporate Finance module, students are given a deeper insight into the international issues in corporate finance and the available financial instruments. The Econometrics module teaches important economtric basics, which are essential for modern financial management. Furthermore, it provides an important foundation for later modules like Financial Risk Management or Management of International Asset Portfolios. Financial Economics deals with price formation and expectation processes in financial markets. The results they provide are a decisive element in applying corporate and capital market financial instruments and methods. Corporate Financial Theory and Policy deals with questions relating to corporate valuation assessment, solutions for investment alternatives, and corporate financing alternatives. The following electives are offered in the second semester: International Accounting Financial Risk Management Management of International Asset Portfolios Business Ethics or other Master courses in the Studium Generale programme The electives are either closely related to real-life work practices (e. g., Management of International Asset Portfolios) or offer additional skills in other important areas (e. g., Financial Risk Management or International Accounting), or provide specific interdisciplinary expertise (Ethics). During the third semester, students prepare and submit a Master s thesis and take the final oral exam (oral defence). Language of instruction English Qualification The awards successful students on this programme the internationally recognised Master of Science (M. Sc.) degree. The degree is worth a total of 90 ECTS credits. Fee There are no tuition fees on this programme as it is funded through public grants. Students are required to pay a semester fee. The semester fee includes a contribution to the Studentenwerk Berlin, the student representative body as well as the enrolment and administration fee and a semester season ticket for the local public transport systems. Admission Application General requirements Bachelor's or equivalent degree Placement (at least 6 months), referring to financial topics; if not shown, a placement has to be done during the third semester Evidence of modules in the following subjects on the undergraduate degree: Basic Lectures in Finance and Investment Theory Corporate Finance Macroeconomics Applicants with 180 credit points from their undergraduate degree are required to take a semester of work ex perience (after the theory phase and before graduation) to obtain the missing 30 credit points. Excellent English skills equivalent at least to B 2 on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) GMAT voluntarily option at least 600 pts.
