1. System Requirements It is highly recommended not to install Lepide Exchange Recovery Manager (LERM) on the system where Exchange Server is installed. Lepide Exchange Recovery Manager needs some basic system requirements to run: Basic System Requirements: Pentium Class Processor 2 GB RAM Windows XP (all editions), Windows Server 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008 (all editions), Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2 (all editions), Windows Vista (all editions), Windows 7 (all editions), Windows 8 (all editions). 1.1 Pre-requisites for Cross-Forest and Cross-Domain Migrations For cross Forest and cross Domain migration, following are the prerequisites: 1. Both Source Exchange Server and Target Exchange Server should be in the same network. 1.2 Pre-requisites for Migrating Archive Mailbox To be able to add and migrate Archive Mailboxes with LERM, Mailbox Archive should be enabled. If Mailbox Archive is not enabled follow these steps to enable archive: a) Open Exchange Management Console (EMC). For Exchange Server 2013 Open ECP. b) Go to Recipient Configuration -> Mailbox c) Go to the mailbox for which you want to enable the archive. d) Right-click and select Enable Archive option from the pop up. e) Enable Archive Mailbox window opens up. f) Select Create a local archive or Create a remote hosted archive option. g) Browse and select Mailbox database in which you want to create the archive mailbox. 2015 Lepide Software Private Limited 6 http://www.lepide.com/
2. User Rights To install and work with LERM, you need to have appropriate Domain rights and rights over the system where it will be installed. Also, you need to have appropriate rights to access Exchange Server and Office 365 s mailboxes. 2.1. Local System Rights 2.2. Exchange Server Rights 2.3. OWA/Office 365 Rights 2.1 Local System Rights User should have following permissions on local computer on which software is installed: Full access permission over drive in which Operating System is installed Read/Write permissions in the registry Steps to assign these permissions are: A. Go to Control Panel B. Select the User Account C. Select Change Account Type D. Make User as Administrator E. Click on Save Note: 1. Steps mentioned above may vary depending on the Windows version installed on the system. 2. 2.2 Exchange Server Rights (Needed only to access Live Exchange Mailboxes) To access offline EDB, OST and PST files no rights are required. I. To access multiple mailboxes user should have following rights: User should be a member of the following groups: Administrators Domain Admins Enterprise Admins Group Policy Creator and Owner Schema Admins Exchange Administrators If the User is not having these rights, follow the given steps to assign the rights: A. Go to Administrative Tools B. Open Active Directory Users and Computers C. Select User Properties D. Click Member Of E. Click Add Group F. Select the following Groups: Administrators, Domain Admins, Enterprise Admins, Group Policy Creator and Owner, Schema Admins and Exchange Administrators G. Click Apply and click Ok II. To access live Exchange Public Folders always use Administrator account. Also, this account should have any of these permission levels: Owner, Publishing Editor, Editor, Author, or Publishing Author. 2.3 OWA/Office 365 Rights To access multiple OWA/Office 365 s mailboxes user should have following rights: A. B. User should be a delegate with Full Access permission over all the mailboxes which you intend to access in Office 365 If User does not have Full Access permission, follow the below steps to assign it: a) Login to Office 365 Admin portal on the web browser. b) Go to Admin -> Office 365. c) Go to User -> Active User. d) Select the User to whom you want to delegate Full Access right. e) Click on Edit Exchange Properties. f) User Mailbox page opens up. Go to Mailbox Delegation. g) Go to Full Access and Click on Add button. h) Full Access Picker dialog box opens up. 3. Adding Source Database You can add the following as a source in the Lepide Exchange Recovery Manager: Offline EDB File Offline OST File Outlook PST File Live Exchange Live Exchange Archive Mailbox OWA/Office 365 3.1 Adding Offline EDB, OST and PST File Steps for adding offline EDB, OST and PST files to software are similar. Process to add offline EDB file has been described below. For adding offline OST and PST files, select the relevant option in Step 2 (of the process below) and proceed with the wizard. To add an offline EDB database, follow the given steps: 1. Click Add Source option in the File menu. Figure: Add Source Menu 2. Select Offline EDB File option in the Add Source dialog box. Figure: Selecting Offline EDB Option 3. In the next page, use Browse button to locate and add the intended EDB file. You can also use the Search option to find and add the EDB file from the network. Once the EDB file is added, Select STM File field is auto-populated. It is filled up only if you add Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003 s EDB. If the STM file is not present at the default location in the Exchange Server, use Browse button to find and add it to software. Figure: EDB File Selected Note: While scanning the EDB file, data and logs are temporarily stored at the location indicated by Select Temp Path. You can change the location of temporary folder using the Browse button adjacent to Select Temp Path. If the EDB file is stored on a network computer, software will issue a warning message (see the figure below) when you click Next. Click Yes if you want to proceed, else click No and copypaste EDB to the local system where software is installed and start from the beginning. 2015 Lepide Software Private Limited 12 http://www.lepide.com/
Figure: LERM Warning Message 4. In the next page, select the type of scan you want to perform on the EDB and Click Next. Standard Scan: Select this mode if your EDB file is not severely corrupted or if you just want to migrate the data from a working offline EDB file to any other destination. If data from the EDB file isn't recovered using this scan, software will ask for some details and switch the scanning mode to "Deep Scan". Deep Scan: Select this mode if the EDB file is severely corrupted, large sized, or oversized. This scan will take more time than Standard Scan but retrieves all data from the EDB file. Note: It is recommended to select Use Disk Space checkbox while recovering the large-sized or oversized EDB files. This lets software use additional Disk Space in addition to the default allocated space for avoiding any bottleneck in consuming the system resources. 5. The next page displays the progress of the EDB file scanning process. Once the scanning gets completed, click Finish. Figure: Displaying Content of the EDB File 3.2 Adding Live Exchange Lepide Exchange Recovery Manager can establish connection with any Exchange Server, hosted locally, or in the network. After establishing the connection, you can add Single Mailbox, Multiple Mailboxes, Public Folders, and Archive Mailbox as source. These mailboxes along with their content can be migrated to the intended destination. Process to add Live Exchange as Source and Destination is similar. Here, we will see how to add Live Exchange in Source. Follow the below mentioned steps to add Live Exchange as Source. 1. Click on the Add Source Option under File Menu. 2. Also, select if you want to add a single Mailbox, Public Folder, Archive Mailbox, or Multiple Mailboxes. Server Name: Enter the name/ip of the Exchange Server which you want to add. Mailbox Name: Enter the Mailbox/Public Folder name which you want to add. If you add Exchange 2013, it s advised to manually configure Outlook profile to establish a successful connection with the Exchange Server. For that, select the checkbox It s Exchange Server 2013 and click Next. In the next step, you will be asked to manually configure the Outlook profile. Follow this link for the same: Manually Configuring Outlook Profile Here, let s select Connect Multiple Mailbox option and click Next. User should have appropriate rights to access multiple mailboxes as described in Exchange Server Rights section. Provide the username in the form (Domain\Username) and its password. Click Ok. 5. In some cases, a dialog box: Remote Mailbox Login Credential may open up. Provide name or IP of server where Active Directory is installed. Provide Admin name and Password. Click here to see required admin rights. Click on Ok. Figure: Providing Remote Login Details 6. Software will display list of all mailboxes on the Exchange Server. Select the mailboxes that you want to add. You can select all mailboxes in a single click by selecting Mailbox checkbox on the header. Click Next. 7. Software will display status of the process as mailboxes are connected one by one. Once all the mailboxes are added, 100% Process Complete message will be displayed. 3.3 Adding Live Exchange Archive Mailbox in Source You need to perform the following steps to add a Mailbox (having Archiving enabled) of the target Exchange Server as a Source. This option is available only for Exchange Server 2010 and 2013 as Archive Mailboxes are included in these two versions only. 1. Select "Live Exchange Mailbox" option in the "Add Source" dialog box. (Optional) Check "Its Exchange 2013" only if you're connecting to Exchange 2013 Server. 6. 9. Click "OK" button to establish the connection. The software will show following dialog box confirming the successful connection to Archive Mailbox. Figure: Connected to Archive Mailbox 10. Click "Finish" button. This will take you back to the main window of Lepide Exchange Recovery Manager, which will show the added Mailbox as a source in the Source List. 3.4 Adding OWA/Office 365 in Source Follow the given steps to add OWA/Office 365 in source: 1. Click on the Add Source Option under File Menu. 2. Select OWA/Office 365 option in the Add Source dialog box. Click Next. Figure: Selecting OWA/Office 365 as Source 3. On this page enter OWA/Office 365 login credentials and select if you want to connect to a single, or multiple mailboxes. Login credential entered here should have appropriate right. If you select Manually Configure Outlook Profile Checkbox, when you click Next, you will be asked to manually configure the Outlook profile. Follow this link for the same: Manually Configuring Outlook Profile. Here, we have select Connect Multiple Mailbox option. Click Next to proceed. When you select a folder in the left pane, messages within it are displayed in the middle pane. The following dialog box will appear asking user to modify the connection settings. 4. Switch to the Connection tab to view and modify its settings. Figure: Connection Tab Settings 5. Click Exchange Proxy Settings. MS Exchange Proxy Settings opens up in a new window. Here, you can provide a HTTP URL to allow LERM to connect to Exchange Server through it. In addition, you can opt for the SSL. Figure: Exchange Proxy Settings Now, you have to check whether the configured Outlook profile is able to connect to Exchange Server 2013 with the modified settings. 6. Switch to the General tab. Figure: General Tab 7. Click on Check Name button on General tab to check if mailbox exists on the Exchange Server. This will display the dialog box asking for login credentials. Provide the username in the form (Domain\Username) and its password. Click OK button to proceed further. Server will check the mailbox name and confirm the connection. 4. Adding Destination You can migrate recovered data from the source to the following destinations: Existing PST File New PST File Live Exchange Archive Mailbox OWA/Office 365 4.1 Adding Existing/New PST File You can add a new or an existing PST file as the destination. Steps for adding a new or an existing PST file are similar. Here, we will see how to add a new PST file. Follow the given steps to create a new PST file: 1. Click Add Destination option in the File menu. Add Destination dialog box opens up. Figure: Add Destination 2. Select Create new PST file in the Add Destination dialog box. PST Location: Specify the location where new PST file will be saved using Browse button PST File Name: Specify a name for the new PST file Store Name: Specify the Store Name (Root Folder Name) for the PST Create a Unicode PST: Select this checkbox to create a Unicode PST Password: Type in a password If you want to apply password protection to the PST file Confirm Password: Re-enter the password entered above 2015 Lepide Software Private Limited 35 http://www.lepide.com/

4.2 Adding New PST File using Template You can create a new PST file in the destination using a template. For that, first create an Outlook Data File in the MS Outlook. Now, this file can act as a template whenever you create a new PST file in the destination section of LERM. Follow these steps to set a template for creating new PST file in the destination: 1. Go to the Tools menu and click Settings. This will display the following dialog box. Figure: Template Settings 2. Select the type of Outlook Data File which you will use as template. This can be a Unicode or a Non Unicode PST. Use Default (English) PST file:select this option if you want to create default (English) PST file. In this case you don t need to provide any template PST file. Use Selected PST File: Select this option if you want to use a specific PST file as template. Note: To create a Non-English PST file, select Use Selected PST File option. 3. Click Apply and click Ok. After doing these settings whenever you create a new PST file in the destination section, it will be created based on this template. To see how to create a new PST file, refer Adding Existing/New PST File section. 4.3 Adding Live Exchange Archive Mailbox in Destination You can add the Archive Mailbox of Exchange Server as the Destination. This option is available only for Exchange Server 2010 and 2013 as Archive Mailboxes are available in these versions only till yet. Follow the below mentioned steps: 1. Select "Live Exchange Mailbox" option in the "Add Destination" dialog box. Figure: Live Exchange in Destination 2. Click "Next" button to proceed to the following wizard. Figure: Archive Add Destination 3. Enter the name of Exchange Server 2010 or 2013, to which you want to connect. 4. Enter the Mailbox name, on which the Archiving is enabled. 5. (Optional) Check "Its Exchange 2013" only if you're connecting to Exchange 2013 Server. In our case, this option is checked. 6. 8. Provide the username in the format Domain\Username or Username@www.domain.com 9. Enter the password of the above user. 10. Check "Remember my password" to save your login credentials. Enabling it will let the software/windows to use it automatically whenever you try to connect to the same server. The software may ask for the credentials once again during this process. 11. Click "OK" button to establish the connection. The software will show following dialog box confirming the successful connection to the Archive Mailbox. Figure: Connected to Archive Mailbox 12. Click "Finish" button. Exchange mailboxes added in Source can be migrated to OWA/Office 365 mailboxes in the destination. Follow these steps to add OWA/Office 365 mailboxes as destination: 1. Click Add Destination option in the File menu. Add Destination wizard starts. 2. Select OWA/Office 365 in the following dialog box. Figure: Selecting OWA/Office 365 3. In the next page, provide User Id and Password to access the OWA/Office 365 mailbox(s). User should have appropriate rights to connect multiple mailboxes as described in OWA/Office 365 Rights section. Connect Single Mailbox: Select this option if you want to migrate a single mailbox from source to OWA/Office 365. Connect Multiple Mailboxes: Select this option if you want to migrate multiple mailboxes from source to OWA/Office 365. If you face any problem in connecting to Office 365 mailboxes when you click Next, please select Manually configure Outlook Profile option. This will take you through the same wizard which you followed while adding Exchange Server mailboxes in source. Here we select Connect Multiple Mailboxes option.
