, SPECIAL FEATURES Extended Beds and Rams Beds and rams can be extended at both ends or at one end only for closing or "homing" operations. Extensions at both ends of the machine provide greatly increased die surface. Air- Electric Clutch Control An electrically controlled, air operated clutch can be furnished instead of manual control. The electrical control is arranged for "inch" and "run" with automatic stop at the top of the stroke and non-repeat protection. With the selector on "inch," the ram can be inched or jogged throughout the stroke or run as long as the buttons are held depressed. With the selector on "run," the ram can be inched to the bottom of the stroke; then it will automatically return to the top of the stroke and stop. All operating buttons in the circuit must be released and again depressed to make another stroke. Air-electric clutch control is furnished as standard equipment on 36, 40, 50 and 75 Series machines. A variety of combinations of foot and hand buttons can be furnished with airelectric clutches. This special press brake is equipped with key lock palm buttons as well as foot switches. 23
Air Counterbalances Air counterbalances to the r am compensate for the extra heavy ram construction and the additional weight of larger dies. Slug Outlets This press-type brake is used primarily for punching and has a bed with openings which allow the slugs to drop to the rear. Angle Brackets By adding removable angle brackets, a press brake is converted into a press without affecting its ability to make bends. A portable push button for controlling ram adjustment is helpful in setup. Permanently Wide Bed Here the ram angles are removable; the bed has been widened permanently. 24
SPECIAL FEATURES/ section Extra Die Space Cincinnati Press Brakes can be built with a variety of special features which provide extra die space. These may include unusually deep throat, widened bed and ram, and lengthened stroke. Wide Bolsters This machine can still be used for bending. The removable wide ram bolster and angle brackets adapt it especially well to press work. Permanently Wide Bed and Ram Permanently wide bed and ram make this machine a press. Standard commercial self-contained punch and die units are frequently used with this construction. See page 44. 25
Die Cushions Cylinders for use as die cushions, die strippers, or slug ejectors can be mounted within double plate beds or under the overhang of single plate beds.
SPECIAL FEATURES/section 4 Lifting Links Lifting links can be provided for 3- or 4-way dies, to make rotation quick and easy. Arrangements for two different die lengths are shown left. Electric Treadle Lock Operator protection is provided by electric treadle lock (A), which prevents manual operation unless all individual foot controls are depressed. Connected Machines These two 9 Series brakes are built to function as a single unit, with a 36' overall die surface, or as separate machines. Limit switches prevent damage during either type of operation... n =.'.'.' 2
- AUTOM.ATI~ Advantages of Cincinnati@ Automatic Cycle: t Aclilal job records show up to 60% increases ill paris produced per hour. 2 With the control se/ecior set at anyone of the three desired positions, all strokes are ideutical. This insures absolute coil, sistency in the work. 3 Work spoilage is reduced dill' to eliminatioll of back bends caused by "whip-up." 4 Highly experienced operators are not required. 5 Operator fatigue is greatly reduced due to eliminatioll of clutch-slippil< g. This.5 series x 10ft. Cincinnati Automatic Cycle Press Brake is typical of 4/.5 Series machines, 100 and 135 tons capacity respectively. Distance between housings; 4'6" to 12'6". 6 Clutch and brake are long-life, minimum-maintenance units... no adjustments are required. The Cincinnati Automatic Cycle provides a combination of instantaneous fast and slow ram speeds with every stroke. The ram starts down from the top of the stroke in high speed and automatically shifts into low speed for the working portion of the stroke. At the bottom of the stroke, the ram is once again shifted back into high speed for the completion of the cycle. All speed changes are smooth, positive and instantaneous. Standard high speed is 35 strokes per minute and standard low speed is 5.8 strokes per minute on 4 and 5 Series machines. Standard high speed is 33 strokes per minute and standard low speed is 7 strokes per minute on 7 and 9 Series machines. Stand ard high and low speeds on 12 and 13 Series machines are 30 and 64 strokes per minute respectively. This productive feature eliminates the "whip-up" and "back bending" which occur when long flexible parts are formed at high speed. It is no longer necessary to "slip the clutch" and rely completely on the press brake operator's skill for parts that are free of "back bends." The Cincinnati Automatic Cycle gives you increased production and eliminates spoiled work. This optional feature is available at extra cost on 4 and 5 Series Cincinnati Press Brakes (100 and 135 tons bending capacity, respectively), on 7 and 9 Series Cincinnati Press Brakes (175 and 225 tons bending capacity, respectively) and 12 and 13 Series Cincinnati Press Brakes (300 and 400 tons bending capacity respectively). CYCLE PRESS BRAKES 4, 5, 12 AND 13 SERIES CONTROL SELECTOR The speed control indicator, which is calibrated in both degrees and inches, is positioned to suit the point at which you want the machine to shift from high speed into low speed. With the control panel selector turned to one of the "Auto" settings, the machine will shift between high and low speeds automatically on each stroke. The AUTO INCH position lets the machine operate on automatic cycle while the foot switch is depressed. The ram stops when the foot switch is released. The AUTO RETURN position differs from the "Auto Inch" in that if the foot switch is released between bottom and top of return stroke, the machine continues through the stroke and stops at the top of the stroke. The AUTO NON-REPEAT position provides the same operation as "Aulo Return" except the machine will automatically stop at the top of the stroke independent of the foot switch. To re-cycle, the foot switch is released and the machine goes through the cycle when the foot switch is engaged. INCH LOW and INCH HIGH positions allow the ram to be inched through the entire stroke, in low or high speed respectively. The OFF position makes the machine inoperative. 7 AND 9 SERIES CON TROL SELECTOR THE SIX-POSITION CON TROL SELECTOR is extremely simple to operate, and allows six different types of operation. When the selector is turned to SHORT DWELL, MED IUM DWELL or LONG DWELL, the Press Brake will operate as described above. That is, the ram is shifted into low speed for the working portion of its stroke. The difference between these three control selections is the length of stroke the ram remains in low speed; we call this the DWELL. The ram position~ at which the speed changes occur can easily be adjusted to suit individual jobs. When the control selector is turned to the HIGH position, the ram may be jogged to bottom dead center in high speed; beyond this point it automatically returns to the top of its stroke in high speed. The LOW JOG and HIGH JOG positions allow the ram to be jogged throughout its entire stroke, in low speed and high speed respectively.
