University of Arizona Foundation President and CEO The University of Arizona Foundation (UAF) Board of Trustees seeks an innovative, dynamic and forward-thinking President and CEO to lead and create a bold new vision during a period of tremendous growth and transformation in the University of Arizona (UA) development program. Recent analysis of the University of Arizona s philanthropy capacity has identified a historic opportunity to significantly increase its philanthropic support from a five year baseline of $150M annually in the context of permanently increasing the base of support for the University as measured by cash raised, gifts and commitments, and size of the endowment. Increasing philanthropy will add significant new resources and partnerships to enhance the University's mission to improve the prospects and enrich the lives of the people of Arizona and the world through education, research, creative expression, and community and business partnerships. At the same time, this growth trajectory provides the opportunity to enhance relationships with donors, prospects, and alumni as well as tap into the development team's love of the institution in order to increase employee engagement and effectiveness. Working closely with the Board of Trustees, the new President and CEO will partner with UA s President to lead the effort to increase philanthropic support for the University and leverage the UAF s relationships and assets to complete Arizona NOW, the Campaign for the University of Arizona, while simultaneously resetting the vision of what is possible in the next campaign. The Foundation, as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, is collaborating with the University Administration through a strategic planning process to evolve current development infrastructure into a one team integrated approach that focuses goals and objectives and maximizes efficiencies and fund raising potential. The University of Arizona Foundation The University of Arizona Foundation was founded in 1958 as an Arizona 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation located in sunny Tucson, Arizona and provides assistance to the University in three areas: fundraising, asset management and facilitation. The UAF is one of the largest foundations in Arizona with an asset base of more than $850 million. Since its inception the UAF has helped generate a cumulative total of nearly $3 billion in private funding for the University. The philanthropic efforts of the UAF have assisted the University in pursuing academic excellence. The University of Arizona is a premier, public research university; in areas as diverse as astronomy, medicine, optics, entrepreneurship and dance, UA faculty and programs are among the nation's best.
Because over 99 percent of private dollars raised are designated by donors for specific purposes, the UAF plays a central role in the University s stewardship efforts. Today, the UAF maintains approximately 4,000 accounts for 200 programs and serves as trustee for life income agreements. In addition, the UAF manages a $670 million endowment and provides assistance to the University in other areas, such as the acquisition of real estate and facilitation of gifts of intellectual property. Currently, the UAF employs 84 staff and has an operating budget of $14.4 million. University based fundraising teams in many colleges and units rely on UAF services and support. Fundraising Priorities In 2014, the University publicly launched Arizona NOW, its largest and most ambitious campaign ever, with a fundraising goal of $1.5 billion by June 30, 2018. The campaign pursues a vision to preserve and enhance the UA s position as a leader in research and discovery; create new experience for its students, faculty, fan community, and the state of Arizona; and pave the way for the next generation of thinkers, innovators and leaders. Currently well ahead of pace and thanks to the generosity of many passionate UA alumni and friends, the campaign recently benefitted from yet another record breaking fundraising year with $293 million in gifts and commitments raised during FY 2015. Arizona NOW is about supporting the people students, faculty and researchers who distinguish this great institution from all others. The UA has 113 endowed faculty chairs and more than 1,500 endowed student scholarships. Like comparable institutions across the nation, the University sees private support increasingly critical to its fiscal health and ability to stay competitive. The percentage of state funding that contributes to the UA budget continues to decline. Private funding plays an essential role in the University s capability to improve the prospects and enrich the lives of the people of Arizona and around the world. Board of Trustees The thirty-nine member UAF Board of Trustees is responsible for the Foundation s policies, procedures and overall direction as a separate 501(c)(3) organization. Comprised of business and civic leaders from throughout Arizona and the United States, board members leverage their professional expertise and community involvement to contribute valuable insights into the Foundation s development efforts.
