Who are Renesas The merger of Mitsubishi Electric & Hitachi s Semi-Conductor Operations to create the worlds largest micro-controller company Mitsubishi Electric DRAM Flash/SRAM (System Memory) MCU, ASIC, ASSP Power Elpida (NEC, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, PSC) Renesas Technology Corp. Hitachi DRAM Flash/SRAM (System Memory) ASIC, Logic MCU, IC Cards, LCD Drivers Opto/HF RF Modules, Mixed Signal Devices Mitsubishi Electric Bologna 26 Settembre 2007 pag 3/N Renesas W/W MCU Ranking in 2006 5% W/W No.1 position - Far ahead of our competitors 4% 6% 4% 8% 4% 3% 2006 W/W Micro-Controller Market Revenue 10% 20% Renesas Technology 13% 23% Freescale Semiconductor NEC Electronics Infineon Technologies (incl. Renesas families. BEST CHOICHE! Lower-cost. Highest-Performances. Lower system cost. Mid-end. High-performances. High Integration. Low-end Bologna 26 Settembre 2007 pag 6/N Higher Efficiency & Lower Noise. Sinusoidal control to reduce mechanical noise. New driving techniques to reduce switching losses. Better EMI & EMS to reduce filtering. 5V operation for better EMS characteristics. Bologna 26 Settembre 2007 pag 7/N Title goes here 3

Sinusoidal waveform to reduce mechanical noise. MCRP05 and MCRP01 delivers corrected sinusoidal waveform to reduce acoustical noise. That s the biggest advantages of BLAC vs. BLDC. It has lower torque ripple vs. V/f algorithms. Bologna 26 Settembre 2007 pag 8/N New driving techniques to reduce switching losses. Switching losses are one of the biggest responsible for efficiency reduction. Newer control techniques can reduce this loss by 1/3. This technique can only be used together with high performance vector control. This allows cost reduction both for heat-sink and for power stage. Bologna 26 Settembre 2007 pag 9/N Title goes here 4

EMS SH Superior results. EMS1 [CDM] EMS2 [HBM] Bologna 26 Settembre 2007 pag 10/N EMI Superior results. The SH2 Tiny [as well as the H8 Tiny] can reach superior results that are well above the homologation required levels. Bologna 26 Settembre 2007 pag 11/N Title goes here 5

5V operation for better EMS characteristics. 5V operation is intrinsically more robust than 3V one. Even if it requires higher silicon area Renesas supplies 5V operation devices for all his product families. Bologna 26 Settembre 2007 pag 12/N Performances. Double precision Floating Point Unit. FMONOS: Performances & Reliability. Roadmap. SH2A SUPERSCALAR CPU. A/D Converter performances. Hardware sampling for single-shunt. Hardware control loop management. Double precision Floating Point Unit. The FPU in the SH2A-FPU core delivers 200 MFLOPS peak performance for simple operations such as add. The table shows execution times for functions in double precision in nano seconds. The FPU supports single and double precision, IEEE754 compliant. Two rounding modes: to nearest or to zero. 16x 32bit registers (single precision) or 8x 64bit registers (double precision) Supports FMAC multiplication and accumulation Bologna 26 Settembre 2007 pag 14/N Proven Reliability. The most valuable example. 25 MILLION MICROCONTROLLERS SHIPPED FOR WORLD S LARGEST AUTOMATIC METER READING PROGRAMME Nurenberg, 22 February, 2005 Renesas Technology Europe has achieved the milestone of shipping 25 million H8/3062 and H8S/2134 microcontrollers to Enel, one of the world s major electricity companies and the main operator in Italy. In 2001, Enel launched a unique and challenging project in advanced automated meter management (AMM) systems that will be fully deployed to more than 30 million customers by the end of 2005. This is believed to be the largest ever shipment of microcontrollers for a single metering project anywhere in the world. As the world s number one supplier of flash microcontrollers, Renesas Technology was able to offer Enel a large range of flash devices, all with high performance CPU cores, together with a reliable flash process and the capability for high volume production. The H8/3062 and H8S/2134 microcontrollers were selected for their high reliability (zero failures in 25 million pieces shipped), scaleable architecture (protecting Enel s software investment) and their high integration (enabling system costs to be optimised). Renesas Technology continues to develop scaleable microcontroller families dedicated to metering applications, offering the highest memory and peripheral integration combined with low power consumption techniques suitable for battery driven applications. 25 million H8/3062 and H8S/2134 microcontrollers to Enel This is believed to be the largest ever shipment of microcontrollers for a single metering project anywhere in the world. The H8/3062 and H8S/2134 microcontrollers were selected for their high reliability (zero failures in 25 million pieces shipped), Bologna 26 Settembre 2007 pag 16/N Title goes here 7

MONOS Flash World s fastest embedded Flash Technology. 10ns read access time now, 5ns soon. MONOS: Metal-Oxide-Nitride-Oxide-Silicon Nitride stops electrons from leaking off the floating gate in case of defects. Hence the cell can be made small whilst it is still highly reliable. Small means FAST and cost effective. It also enables BIG (currently up to 4MByte) Flash modules. M etal O xide N itride O xide S ilicon Bologna 26 Settembre 2007 pag 17/N SH microcontrollers High performance Upward compatibility High code density 480 DMIPS 30ns IRQ response 12ns Flash access time Choice and easy migration Low power Long term availability Avoid external memory cost and trouble Innovative technology 0.5 mw/mips Bologna 26 Settembre 2007 pag 21/N Title goes here 8

A/D converter performances. All the SH2 devices have from 2 S/H up to 6 S/H. All new devices supplies 12bit resolution. 1.25us conversion time. [@ 40MHz Pi] Up to 6 sample & Hold. Bologna 26 Settembre 2007 pag 22/N Hardware sampling for single-shunt. Hardware A/D synchronization to drive 3ph motors using a single shunt for current reading. Bologna 26 Settembre 2007 pag 23/N Title goes here 9

Hardware control loop management. Very often the control loop frequency is lower than the PWM one. In order to avoid time waste in the interrupt service routine to count the number of interrupt skipping this function has been inserted into the timer s hardware. Bologna 26 Settembre 2007 pag 24/N Safety IEC 60730 HARDWARE PROTECTION Oscillation stop detection. WDT with separated oscillator. WDT error HARDWARE output. On-chip HARDWARE SHORTCUT protection. Output read-back feature. MISRA Rule checker. Bologna 26 Settembre 2007 pag 25/N Title goes here 10

IEC 60730 IEC60730 libraries allows the designer to simply develop class B compliant systems. Bologna 26 Settembre 2007 pag 26/N HARDWARE Protection In order to improve the system security as well as to reduce the external components the following features are available: Oscillation Stop Detection. Watch Dog Timer with separated oscillator. Watch Dog Error HARDWARE output. On-chip HARDWARE SHORTCUT detection & recovery. Output read-back feature.
