Setting up Email in Outlook Express If you have more than one email account but need to use a single computer to access them, then Outlook Express can help. To begin, open Outlook Express by double-clicking on the icon or shortcut on your desktop or task bar. If you have not set up an account, when the program opens it will ask you to do so at this time via a Microsoft Wizard program. This program is designed to help end users configure their email accounts quickly and easily. Enter the information from your primary email account in the blanks as the Wizard asks questions. The information you will need consists of your full email address, username, password and mail server names. The incoming and outgoing servers are mail.cpws.net. Most of the time, the username is the first half of the email address, meaning everything in front of the @ symbol. Example: Email address: user123@isp.com Username: user123 This information should have been provided to you at the time of internet installation. If it was not provided, please call our office at 388-4833 and request this information. Once you have all the information entered as requested by the Wizard, test the account by sending yourself a test message. To do this, click on the Create Mail icon located in the top left corner below the File tab. This will open a compose window so that a new email message can be composed and prepared for sending to the recipient of the message. Page 1 of 5
In the example above, youremail@isp.com has been placed in the To: field. This should be the email address that was entered into the application while stepping through the Wizard s questions (the email address you were given by your Internet Provider). This email message, when sent, will be delivered back to you. This will simulate the process an email goes through when sent and delivered to a recipient. This will test the information entered into the Wizard s fields. If the test succeeded and you received the message in your Inbox, then proceed with the next section on multiple email accounts. If the email did not send and receive properly, verify the information you entered and try again. If it fails again, please call our office at 388-4833 for further assistance. Page 2 of 5
Outlook Express with Multiple Emails In this section we will show you how to configure Outlook Express to allow multiple emails with separate inboxes and security, if desired. Open Outlook Express and refer back to the first section (Page 1) if you have any questions on how to set up one email account. To add another email account, locate and click on the File tab in the upper left corner. A drop down menu will appear. Locate and click Identities and a side menu will appear. In the side menu, click Add Identities. This will begin a Microsoft Wizard for adding multiple identities. Page 3 of 5
(optional) Enter the name by which you want to identify this account. It does not have to be the same as your email; it can be anything you want (example: Mom s Email). Before you click the OK button to apply, you will need to decide if you want to add security to the new identity. If security is desired, click the password required box, and the wizard will display a window asking for a password. Enter the New Password and Confirm New Password. This ensures that there were no typing errors. Click OK on the Password window and click OK on the Add Identity window. Enter the same password in both fields to eliminate the chance of typos. The program will then ask if you would like to switch to the new identity that you just created. Click Yes and wait for the application to switch. The Microsoft Wizard will appear again and ask the same questions as when you set up the first email account. Page 4 of 5
Upon completion of the Wizard, another window will appear asking if information needs to be imported into Outlook Express for the new identity. Most often, this is not needed, especially if this is a new account. However, if this account was used by another email program, select the information from the list and follow the Wizard to import the information into the newly created identity. Test the account just as you did in the first section and follow the steps on pages 1-2 before proceeding with adding any additional email accounts. The above steps can be performed as many times as needed to accommodate any number of email accounts, and will still give the user privacy and security while sharing one PC.
