Maual CCNA Domai 1 Compoets of the Cisco Uified Commuicatios Architecture Uified Commuicatios (UC) Eviromet Cisco has itroduced what they call the Uified Commuicatios Eviromet which is used to separate out the differet duties of the compoets used with a uified commuicatios eviromet. The differet layers defied i this eviromet iclude: Ifrastructure icludes the routers, switches, firewalls ad other devices used whe trasportig voice traffic. Applicatios icludes the applicatios used to provide voice services icludig voice mail, coferecig abilities, call ceter applicatios ad 911 services. Call Processig icludes all of the devices which are used whe processig a call; this icludes the call setup ad teardow, coferecig, ad the trasferrig of calls amog may others. Edpoits icludes the devices which are used by the ed users, typically this is a phoe of some sort whether physical or softphoe. UC Ifrastructure Layer The UC ifrastructure layer icludes all of the devices which trasport the voice traffic over the etwork. This icludes a umber of devices icludig: Routers used to properly route etwork traffic from oe locatio iside a etwork to aother, this is doe through the use of various routig protocols. Routers also have the ability to classify, mark ad process QoS iformatio so that voice traffic is give priority over lower priority traffic. Switches two differet types ca be used o a UC etwork, voice ad data. A voice switch is used to process a call ad switch it to its proper destiatio. A data switch or physical switch is used to coect ed user equipmet to the etwork ad ca both process data ad voice traffic. Both types of switches have the ability to classify, mark ad process QoS iformatio. Firewalls used to secure a etwork from itrusios ito the etwork. It is possible at differet poits i a etwork that voice traffic may have to pass through a firewall device. These devices must be cofigured to recogize ad accurately prioritize voice traffic so that it gets to the destiatio i a timely maer. Gateways used betwee two differet types of etworks to traslate betwee them. Typically a gateway is used at a poit i the etwork where voice lies are traslated ito VoIP traffic ad vice versa. These applicatios iclude: Voice mail (Uity) Iteractive Voice Respose (IVR) Uified Cotact Maager Emergecy Respoder Cisco Voicemail Cisco s voicemail solutio is called Uity ad is offered i three differet variats: Cisco Uity Express Cisco Uity Coectio Cisco Uity Cisco Uity Express Uity express is the smallest voice mail solutio provided by Cisco ad is ru o a supported router platform. This is possible through the use of a additioal supported Advaced Itegratio Module (AIM) or Network Module (NM). As of this writig there are a umber of differet supported modules which support a umber of differet capabilities, these iclude: NM-CUE 8-port module which supports up to 100 voice mailboxes ad 100 hours of voice recordigs. NM-CUE-EC 16-port module which supports up to 250 voice mailboxes ad 300 hours of voice recordigs. NME-CUE 24-port module which supports up to 250 voice mailboxes ad 300 hours of voice recordigs. AIM-CUE 6-port module which supports 50 mailboxes ad 14 hours of voice recordigs. AIM2-CUE - 6-port module which supports 50 mailboxes ad 14 hours of voice recordigs. ISM-SRE-300 10-port module which supports 100 mailboxes ad 60 hours of voice recordigs. Cisco Uity Coectio Uity Coectio is i the middle of the Uity solutios. It is ru o a separate Liux server platform ad supports may of the features that are supported i the full Uity solutio but is limited by its support for 7,500 to 10,000 mailboxes. If a orgaizatio has less tha 500 users Uity Coectio ca also be used with Cisco Uified Commuicatios Maager o a sigle server. Uity Coectio is also limited i the total umber of ports supported. O a sigle server Uity coectio supports up to 144 total ports whe usig Voicemail ad 72 whe usig Itegrated Messagig (IM). Maual CCNA Cisco Uity Uity is the full versio of Cisco s Uity voicemail product ad adds all of the features which are icluded i both Cisco Uity Express ad Cisco Coectio ad adds several additioal features. These features iclude: Itegratio with legacy voicemail systems Coectivity with Microsoft, Lotus ad Novell s email systems Support for up to 200 ports/sessios per server Support for up to 15,000 mailboxes per server Support for up to 250,000 total users (Across multiple servers) Iteractive Voice Respose (IVR)/Auto Attedat A importat part of most moder busiess phoe systems is a IVR ad/or Auto Attedat which is used to route people to the correct people iside a compay without the eed for a additioal perso routig these calls. Cisco Uified Cotact Ceter I additio to the IVR/Auto Attedat capabilities of Uity; Cisco has also developed a solutio which allows call ceters which receive a umber of differet call types to distribute the calls to the correct locatio iside the compay ad provide a easy support platform so that the operator ca most efficietly resolve the purpose of the call. This is provided by the Uified Cotact Ceter solutio. Uified Cotact Ceter is ru o a dedicated server platform ad allows the itegratio of IVR fuctioality with a system providig support iformatio which ca be used by the operator, this could potetially iclude past support ticket iformatio or customer history iformatio amog other thigs. Uified Cotact Ceter also supports chat, web ad email itegratio abilities. UC Call Processig Layer The UC Call Processig Layer icludes all devices which are used to process calls ad provides the ability to use a umber of differet call features. There are a couple of mai products which are used i call processig these iclude: Smart Busiess Commuicatios System (SBCS) - Uified Commuicatios 500 devices Uified Commuicatios Maager Express (CME) Uified Commuicatios Maager Busiess Editio Uified Commuicatios Maager (Call Maager) Cisco Uified Commuicatios 500 (UC500) The UC500 product lie was created as a sigle box voice/voicemail/auto attedat solutio. Maual CCNA Cisco Uified Commuicatios Maager Busiess Editio The Busiess Editio of Cisco s Uified Commuicatios Maager has all of the capabilities of Uified Commuicatios Maager ad Uity Coectio but is limited to 500 total users ad 20 total sites. Busiess editio differs from the Express editio i that it requires a dedicated appliace platform which is essetially a Liux server used to ru the services. Versio 7.1 of the Uified Commuicatios Maager Busiess Editio uses the MCS 7828 Uified Commuicatios appliace. Busiess editio also has support for Cisco Uified Mobility which allows users the flexibility to route their busiess phoes to differet remote locatios ad to make calls remotely as if they are callig from their local phoe. Cisco Uified Commuicatios Maager Cisco s Uified Commuicatios Maager which was previously called Call Maager is the full versio of their call processig solutio. It provides all of the features of the other versios but supports a sigificatly larger umber of total users. Uified Commuicatios Maager has support for over 100 sites or clusters with support for up to eight servers per cluster. Each server supports up to 7,500 Cisco Uified IP Phoes or 30,000 per cluster. Uified Commuicatios Maager is typically ru o oe of Cisco s server appliaces. Versio 7.1 supports the MCS 7816, MCS 7825, MCS 7828, MCS 7835, ad MCS 7845 devices as well as support for some IBM ad HP third party servers. UC Edpoits Layer There are a umber of differet edpoits which ca be used with the Uified Commuicatios Maager devices.
