User Guide: Manual Migration on Thunderbird for OS X Manual migration provides the account holder with the opportunity to manually move their email messages from UnivMail Server to MacMail Server. Once the new MacMail account has been created, the account holder will have 10 calendar days to copy messages from UnivMail to MacMail. Step 1: Prepare for Migration Refer to Preparation for Migration at http://macmailhelp.mcmaster.ca for list of items. Step 2: Request MacMail Account When ready for migration, refer to template and instructions at http://macmailhelp.mcmaster.ca for sending the list of accounts. Ensure the list is sent at least two weeks in advance. Step 3: Log into MacMail Account Communication will be sent to the account holder after the MacMail account has been created. Upon receipt of confirmation, access your MacMail account via Outlook Web Application (OWA) at https://macmail.mcmaster.ca. Upon completion of this step, any email sent by a MacMail user will be delivered to your MacMail Inbox. Step 4: Set Redirect Rule on UnivMail to MacMail 1. Open a web browser and logon to UnivMail at https://univmail.cis.mcmaster.ca. 2. Click on Rules. 3. Click the check box beside Redirect All Mail to: 4. In the box below enter your macid@fhsadmin.csu.mcmaster.ca 5. Click the check box Preserve To/Cc fields. 6. Click on Update button. 7. The message Rules Updated will be displayed. 8. Click on Logout. Upon completion of this step, all incoming emails will be delivered to your MacMail Inbox. 1
Step 5: Configure Thunderbird and transfer the emails 1. Open Thunderbird 2. At the top select Tools 3. Under Tools go down to Account Settings 2
4. Click on the Account Actions drop down and select Add Mail Account 5. Enter Your name at Your name: 6. Enter your macid@mcmaster.ca at Email address. 7. Enter your MAC ID password at Password. 8. Click on Continue 3
9. Wait for the search to complete and fail 4
10. Under the Server Hostname for each IMAP and SMTP type in FHSHC.CSU.MCMASTER.CA a. For IMAP select port 993, and SSL select SSL/TLS b. For SMTP select port 587, and SSL select STARTTLS c. Change the authentication for both IMAP and SMTP to NTLM 11. Click on Done to confirm the settings and save the account 5
12. Under the Account Name rename the UnivMail and Exchange Account. The account can be identified by the Outgoing Server a. Univmail univmail.cis.mcmaster.ca b. Exchange fhshc.csu.mcmaster.ca 13. Under the Exchange account, click on Server Settings 6
15. Under the subsection Server Settings click on Advanced 16. Set the Maximum number of server connections to cache to 1 and click on OK 7
18. Click on OK 19. The exchange account should automatically download. If not, click on the Account Name and click on Get Messages 20. If the folder does not exists in Exchange, create it by Right Clicking on the account name and selecting New Folder 8
21. Name the folder and Place it in the desired location through the drop down menu 22. Select All Messages in the Folders that is not inside another folder (Inbox, Trash, Drafts, Sent, etc.),by using Command + A 23. Right click on one of the Selected Messages 24. Select Copy To, then the Exchange Account, and then the appropriate folder and/or subfolder 9
*The drag and drop method, which means that you select one or more files and drag them to another location. 25. For All Messages in Sub Folders, the Folder can be Dragged And Dropped into the Appropriate parent Folder 26. Once all mail has been copied over, select Tools 10
27. Under Tools go down to Account Settings 28. Ensure that the UnivMail account has been selected 29. Click on the Account Actions drop down and select Remove Account 11
30. Confirm the account removal by clicking no OK 31. Click on OK 12
