" One or more network boards installed. " A 3.5-inch diskette drive and a CD drive. Bootable CD drives must support the El Torito specification. " A PS/2* or serial mouse is recommended, but not required. " A DOS partition with at least 20 MB of available space. If you are creating a new DOS partition during the installation, the installation requires you to enter a DOS partition size of at least 100 MB. " Minimum disk space requirement outside the DOS partition: Standard NetWare products plus WebSphere* Application Server for NetWare 1.3 GB for volume SYS. " Minimum memory requirements:! Standard NetWare products 128 MB.! NetWare products plus WebSphere Application Server for NetWare 256 MB (512 MB recommended).! All products, including Oracle8* 512 MB. NOTE: The system requirements listed above are minimum requirements which might not yield acceptable results. You can optimize the server performance by increasing the amount of server memory, disk space, and processor speed. Software and Other Before starting the server installation, make sure that you have the following software and information: " Novell Small Business Suite 5.1 Operating System CD. " Novell Small Business Suite 5.1 License/Cryptography diskette. " You might need to gather information about network board and storage device properties, such as the interrupt and port address. In most cases, this information will be automatically detected by the installation. For more information, contact your computer hardware manufacturer. 3

" If this is the first Novell Small Business Suite 5.1 server on the network, you must make sure that this server will be a reliable, accessible, and continuing part of your network. IMPORTANT: The first Novell Small Business Suite 5.1 server installation automatically creates and physically stores the Organizational Certificate Authority (CA) object for the entire NDS tree. The Organizational CA object enables secure data transmissions and is required for Web-related products such as NetWare Web Manager and NetWare Enterprise Web Server. After the Organizational CA object is created, you should not delete or move it. " If this is not the first Novell Small Business Suite 5.1 server on the network, you must:! Have Supervisor rights to the container where the server will be installed.! Have Read rights to the Security container object for the NDS tree. PREPARE THE NETWORK If you are upgrading from NetWare 4.11, NetWare 4.2, intranetware for Small Business, NetWare for Small Business 4.x, or Novell Small Business Suite 5, or adding a new server to an existing network, you should: 1 Back up all data. 2 Insert the Operating System CD into a workstation, then run NetWare Deployment Manager (NWDEPLOY.EXE) to update your NDS schema and license management. Instructions are included in NetWare Deployment Manager. PREPARE THE COMPUTER 1 Follow the manufacturer s instructions to install and connect the network board and network cabling to your computer. 2 Make sure that all storage devices are properly attached to storage adapters. 3 Back up all data. BEGIN THE INSTALLATION 1 At the computer that you want to be your server, insert the Novell Small Business Suite 5.1 Operating System CD into the CD-ROM drive. 2 Reboot the computer. 3 Select a language, if necessary. 4

4 Select Keep the Existing DOS Partition or Create a New DOS Partition (with the size of your choice). WARNING: Creating a new DOS partition will remove all existing data. If you want to keep the data on your existing server, select Keep the Existing DOS Partition. 5 Select the Installation type.! Standard Installation use to quickly install your first Novell Small Business Suite 5.1 server or to upgrade a server that meets the system requirements. In this installation, you must select a time zone and enter a name for your NDS organization. You might need to select a language. You can accept the defaults or change the name of your server and NDS tree, the size of volume SYS, the name of one additional traditional volume (you can create more volumes immediately after the installation if desired), and the User object with administrative rights. All Novell products in the Novell Small Business Suite 5.1 release are installed (see the list in Installation and Administration manual), with the exception of News Server and WebSphere. If needed, you can install these products later.! Advanced Installation only use to perform installations or upgrades that require customizing, such as installing a server into an existing NDS tree or creating NSS volumes. Performing this installation requires advanced knowledge of NDS, hardware configurations, and all installation choices and their effects. For more information on procedures and choices, see the NetWare 5.1 online documentation on the Online Documentation CD or on the Web (http:// www.novell.com/documentation/lg/nw51/docui/index.html).! If a previous NetWare partition is detected, you are given a choice to Upgrade the Existing Server or Install a New Server. Note the following before making your choice: If your server meets the system and software requirements, you can upgrade your server. If your server does not meet the system and software requirements, you should cancel the installation and determine your options. See Novell Small Business Suite 5.1 Installation and Administration. IMPORTANT: If you select Install a New Server, all the existing data on your server will be deleted and you will not be able to upgrade your server. 5

6 Follow the remaining on-screen prompts to complete the server installation. The last screen of the installation contains the message: To complete the installation, remove any diskettes/cds and restart the computer now. Restart your computer now? At this point you can choose to view the Readme, view the server log file, or answer Yes or No to the Restart Your Computer now question. If you select Yes, the computer will reboot, and the server will start automatically. If you select No, you must manually shut down the server, and reboot the server; the server will start automatically when the reboot is complete. Set Up a Workstation for Administation Prerequisites: The server should be installed or upgraded and running.
