M.Ed Programme Structure: An Overview Coursework with Master s Project (formerly referred to as Option 2) - 12 core education courses (36 credits) - *Master s Project (6 credits) * may be replaced by 2 additional taught courses Coursework with Concentration (formerly referred to as Option 3) - 10 core education courses (30 credits) - 3 core concentration courses (9 credits) - 1 Seminar Paper (3 credits)

COURSEWORK WITH MASTER S PROJECT 2 PARTS Part I : CORE EDUCATION COURSEWORK (36 credits) Students are required to take 12 taught courses and obtain a CGPA of at least 2.90 for the 11 courses (except Directed Reading). Part 2 : *MASTER S PROJECT (6 credits) Students are required to work on a research project under the guidance of a supervisor appointed by OUM. The completed research project will be assessed by the supervisor and a reviewer. Students may apply to take 2 additional taught courses in lieu of Master s Project

Master s Project Duration for Master s Project: Minimum: 2 semesters Maximum: 8 semesters. Student must hand in the Master s Project, latest, by the end of the 8 th semester, failing which the student will be given a grade F and he/she must re-register for Master s Project, which involves the payment of full fees. This policy takes effect from May 2014. Students may apply to take 2 additional taught courses in lieu of Master s Project. The two courses offered are Sociology of Education and Educational Administration

Entry Requirements Bachelor s Degree in Education with minimum CGPA of 2.50 or Bachelor s Degree with minimum CGPA of 2.50 and possess Dip. Ed/KPLI / Sijil Perguruan Asas/ PGDip in Teaching/at least 2-year teaching experience or Equivalent Bachelor s Degree with CGPA < 2.50 and possess 5 years experience in teaching or training or Flexible Entry: - Age = 35 years or above - STPM or equivalent - Experience & prior learning in the related field - Assessment of Prior Learning

Duration Minimum Maximum 5 or 6 semesters 12 semesters Candidate may apply for a one-year extension, subject to approval by the Dean of Centre for Graduate Studies.

Learning Methods SELF-MANAGED LEARNING (90 hours - 75%) Study independently according to time availability. Modules/Customized textbooks Study Guide. SCHEDULED SEMINARS (15 hours per course - 12.5%) Conducted by facilitators (professors/experts in the industry). Seminars are held at LCs 5 times (3 hours per course per seminar). ONLINE COLLABORATIVE LEARNING (15 hours 12.5%) Online group discussion through myvle

Online Learning Mode This option is offered to candidates who is unable to attend seminars or CGS is unable to offer the programme in a particular learning centre Learners will get an online facilitator specially assigned to him/ her for the online courses Learners will communicate with this facilitator through online forum mylve Learners will submit continuous assessment (assignments) to this facilitator and take the final examination in learning centres of their choice

LANGUAGE: Modules/Textbooks & Study Guide in English Assignment questions are in English but exam questions are in both English and Malay. Students can answer assignment and exam questions in English or Malay. Research report may be written in English or Malay.
