These are optional in that students will have some choice to choose the required number of optional courses from the optional courses offered. Optional courses will be distributed under different major areas and the Discipline will develop the details of major areas and concerned courses under each area. This rule can be relaxed up to 3 credits as lower limit if it is the last term for that student or he/she is exempted for any course in that term. This can be done with the consent of concerned course teacher(s) and student advisor with the approval of the Head of the Discipline. 8.3 Withdrawal from a Course: If a student is unable to continue a course, he/she may withdraw from that course latest by the end of the fourth week of classes, provided that minimum credit hours require is maintained. This withdrawal has to be done by duly completing the course Adjustment Form and submitted to the Registrar s office through the Head of the concerned Discipline. 8.4 Withdrawal from a Term: If any student is unable to complete the Term Final Examination due to serious illness or serious accident, he/she may apply to the Head of the concerned Discipline for total withdrawal from the term within a week after the end of the Term Final Examination. However, he/she may choose not to withdraw any sessional course if the grade obtained in such a course is D or above. A medical certificate from the Chief Medical Officer of the University must support the application. The Academic Council will take the decision about such an application. 9. The defense board will consist of the concerned supervisor, the external member and the Head of Discipline/any other Faculty appointed by the Head of the discipline as chairman of the defense board. 10. GRADING SYSTEM: The total performance of a student in a theory course is based on a scheme of continuous assessment made through (attendance, a set of quizzes, class tests, class participation, homework/assignments) a mind-term examination and a Term Final Examination. A letter grade with a specified number of grade points is awarded in each course completed by a student. The completed courses and credits therewith and obtained GPA in courses are the measurements of a student s academic performance Grading Scale: The letter grades that a student may earn depending on the percentage of marks obtained in a course and their corresponding meaning and grade points are shown in the table below: 10.2 Evaluation of MBA students: Mark Obtained Letter Credit Grade Point 80% and above A % to below 80% A % to below 75% A % to below 70% B % to below 65% B % to below 60% B % to below 55% C % to below 50% C % to below 45% D 2.00 Less than 40% F 0.00 Exemption Ex The evaluation scheme aims to assess knowledge and skills of the students in analyzing business situations (cases, incidents, features, articles etc.), presenting the analyses in written and oral forms, making contribution in class-room discussions, working together in groups and precisely producing written answers in a given time frame. Thus the performance of MBA students in a course will be evaluated as under: One Mid-term Test 20% Continuous Assessment (Class tests/assignments/quiz/case analysis/etc.) 30% Class Attendance 10% Term Final Exam. 40% Total 100% Page 4 of 8

5 There will be four weeks for Examinations - one is for mid-term and the other three are for final Examination. The Head of discipline will announce these weeks. The course teacher will evaluate all tests, examinations, term papers and class performance of a student. The teacher is required to submit all continuous evaluation (with base scripts, papers, documents) to the Head of the respective Discipline. Duration of a course final examination will be two (2) to three (3) hours and a single examiner (the concerned course teacher) will evaluate it. The controller of exam will organize and conduct the final exam. MBA Examination Committee (consisted of four teachers and concerned Discipline Head as chair) shall prepare and send the results of term final exam to the Controller (provisional) within two weeks of the last examination subject to the approval of the Academic Committee of which all teachers of the Discipline are members. The Controller of Examination will take necessary steps to publish the results. 11. EARNING CREDITS: The courses in which a student has obtained D or a higher grade will be counted as credits earned by him/her. Obtained F grade in any course will not be counted towards earned credits and, consequently, will not be counted for GPA calculation, but it will stay on the Grade Sheet. Obtaining an F grade in any foundation (if not exempted) or required or optional course(s) in any term will require students to repeat the course(s) as a fresh course(s). Students will not be allowed to repeat the course(s) more than once. However, in case of optional course(s) student may choose to take a substitute course from the same area (if available). 12.
