Create a Virtual Private Network (VPN) Connection 1

Virtual Private Network (VPN) The VPN service provides secure (encrypted) off-campus connection to access University resources. Use VPN to access Oracle E-Business functions, such as approving timecards or changing your direct deposit information. VPN is also required to remotely access your office computer and file shares using Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). Getting Started To create a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection: 1. Enroll for DUO Mobile two-factor authentication. This is used to confirm authentication to UTRGV resources. Visit utrgv.edu/duo to enroll. NOTE: This step must be completed from the UTRGV campus network. 2. Install the DUO Mobile app on your mobile device. (Recommended) 3. Install the FortiClient software on your computer. FortiClient establishes a secure VPN connection to the UTRGV network. DUO Mobile Enrollment (Required) 1. Visit utrgv.edu/duo to enroll. 2. Click Start Setup. NOTE: This step must be completed from the UTRGV campus network. 2

3. Select the type of device to be enrolled, then click Continue. 4. Verify ownership of the device being registered. 5. Click on the verification method you want. 6. Enter the Verification code (6 digits) you receive. 7. Click Continue. 3

NOTE: If DUO Push is selected, the DUO Mobile app MUST be installed on your device. Once the enrollment process is completed, a message will appear stating enrollment was successful. Download DUO Mobile (Recommended) 1. Download the DUO Mobile app from your phone s app store. (Recommended) 2. Allow your mobile device to send PUSH notifications. 3. Click the link in the activation text message sent to your phone. Install and Configure FortiClient VPN FortiClient VPN is available for university laptops on the Edinburg campus through the Run Advertised Programs application. To download the desktop VPN client: 1. Log in to my.utrgv.edu 2. From the menu, click Help & Downloads 3. Click VPN. 4. Select your operating system, then click to download and install software. 5. During installation, select VPN ONLY, when prompted, (Windows only). 6. Launch the FortiClient application. 7. Click Settings. 4

8. Click New Connection. 9. Enter New Connection Settings. Connection Name: UTRGV VPN Description: (leave blank) Server Address: vpn.utrgv.edu:443 User Name: Your full UTRGV email address Password: Your UTRGV password 5

10. Click OK. Two-Factor Authentication Before you can log in to UTRGV resources, you MUST establish a VPN connection using the VPN client (FortiClient) installed on your computer. 1. Open the VPN client (FortiClient). 2. Enter your credentials, the click Connect. NOTE: If you chose DUO Push with DUO Mobile App, you will receive two DUO Mobile notifications on your smartphone. 3. Press Approve, then Confirm. NOTE: If you do not receive the DUO Mobile notifications, manually launch the app on your device and try again. If you set up your device using a landline (not the DUO app), you will receive a call from 956-665-2020. Answer the call and press any number on the dial pad to approve. 4. You are now connected to VPN and may access UTRGV resources, such as Banner. Remote Desktop Service Remote Desktop Service MUST be enabled on your computer before you can access your campus computer from outside the UTRGV campus network. 6

To request Remote Desktop service (RDP), submit a service request through ServiceNow. Be sure to include the Asset Tag number of the computer. NOTE: If you travel outside of the U.S., request to have your computer accept connections from international locations. Need Help? Submit a help request through ServiceNow. 7
