Dear Member, It is my great pleasure to extend a formal invitation to all STQ athletes, Coaches and Referees to the 2014 STQ Taekwondo Open Championships which will be held 30 th March 2014 at the Logan Metro Sports Centre National State Referees are formally invited to officiate at the 2014 QLD Open and must express their interest through the state referee director / coordinator who will then coordinate with STQ Referee Committee Chair, All members are reminded that this STQ Open Championships is also a stepping stone to state selections to then be able to compete at the STA National Championships in August in Sydney. No other payment will be made available. All Coaches, Volunteers and Referee s must also register online as no access to the competition arena will be granted without accreditation. 8. CLOSING DATE Entries MUST BE completed online by March 23rd 2014. 9a. SPARRING EQUIPMENT CHEST PROTECTORS: The following divisions will be using the PSS. Competitors in these divisions must have the Daedo electronic foot protectors. Cadet 12 14 Yrs (Blue, Red and Black belts). Junior 15 17 Yrs (Blue, Red and Black belts). Seniors 17+ (Blue, Red and Black belts). Masters 33+ (Blue, Red and Black belts). A limited number of foot protectors will be available for purchase on the day those players using the electronic PSS are required to have their own electronic foot guards which can be purchased prior to the event from RMR, Upper Mount Gravatt (Ph. 3349 3766). No yellow belts (all ages) or youth 8 to 11 Yrs (all belts) will require electronic foot guards. S T Q - S p o r t s T a e k w o n d o Q u e e n s l a n d Page 2

MOUTH GUARDS: Mouth guards are compulsory for all competitors regardless of age or belt level and must be either clear or white. HAND PROTECTORS: Sparring gloves are compulsory for all WTF divisions, Cadets, Junior and Senior and are optional for all other divisions. It is strongly recommended that all players wear these. 9b. POOMSAE UNIFORMS All Black Belt athletes contesting the STQ Open in March will be required to wear the WTF approved uniforms which are outlined on the STA website and can be purchased via your instructor. From a judging perspective, it is essential that there be as much consistency and uniformity in presentation as possible and this is why the WTF approved uniform is a mandatory requirement for the nationals. WEIGH IN There is one weigh in session on the morning of the event starting at 7am Weigh in will be conducted as per WTF rules and the 2 hour window will be STRICTLY adhered to. Failing to weigh in during the allocated time slot for you will lead to disqualification. There will not be any weigh concession for weigh in, and weight will be to one decimal place. 11. ROUND TIMES: KIDS CADETS (6-11): All Belts, 3 X 1 minutes with a 30 sec break (12, 13, 14): Black Belts, 3 X 1.5 minutes with a 30 sec break Coloured Belts, 3 X 1 minute with a 30 sec break JUNIORS (15, 16, 17): Black Belts, 3 X 2 minutes with a 1 min break Coloured Belts, 3 X 1 minute with a 30 sec break OPEN (17+): Black Belts, 3 X 2 minutes with a 1 min break Coloured Belts, 3 X 1 minute with a 30 sec break MASTERS (31+): All Belts, 3 X 1 minute with a 30 sec break NOTE: The age limit is based on the year, not on the event date. For instance, if the Junior Taekwondo Championships are held on March 30 th, 2014, those contestants born on between January 1, 1996 and December 31, 1998 are eligible to participate. 12. ACCOMMODATION: The Metro Sports complex is situated approx. 25mins from Brisbane City heart and there is numerous and varying types of S T Q - S p o r t s T a e k w o n d o Q u e e n s l a n d Page 3

accommodation present both near an the centre and in the Brisbane city heart. 13. INFORMATION UPDATES: For further info please refer to our Official website www.stq..au Event updates will be emailed to all registered athletes, coaches and officials as necessary y to keep everyone informed of the progress of the event. 14. REFEREES/JUDGES (POOMSAE-Patterns) There will be one (1) day of competition for this event,. All Referee/Judges must register their interest in officiating at these championships, and must be directed through your relevant State Referee / Judges Director / Coordinator. All approved Referees/Judges will receive a per-diem, refreshments and lunch on the day of competition. There will be mandatory Referee/Judges meeting on the morning of the event at 7.30am sharp. All Referees / Judges must make themselves available for the FULL DAY of competition, Sunday, regardless of competition finishing times. 15. REFEREES (KYROUGI-Sparring} There will be one (1) day of competition for this event, Sunday 30 th March 2014. All Referees must register their interest in officiating at these championships, and must be directed through your relevant State Referee Director / Coordinator. All approved Referees will receive a per-diem, refreshments and lunch on the days of competition There will be mandatory Referees meeting on the morning of the comp starting at 7.20am. All Referees must make themselves available for the FULL DAY of competition, Sunday regardless of competition finishing times. 17. SPARRING DIVISIONS Belt Divisions: Yellow Blue Red and Black Age Divisions: NOTE: The age limit is based on the year, not on the event date. For instance, if the Junior Taekwondo Championships are held on June 11, 2013, those contestants born on between January 1, 1996 and December 31, 1998 are eligible to participate. Kids = 6-7, 8 9, 10-11, NO head Kicks Cadet = 12 14, Head Kicks for Red - Black Belts Only Junior = 15 17, Head Kicks for all Belts Open = 17+, Head Kicks for all Belts Masters = 31-35, 36-40, 41-50, 51-60, 61+ NO head Kicks NOTE #1 Any athlete in a head kick division may select modified rules (no head contact), but you will be placed in a separate S T Q - S p o r t s T a e k w o n d o Q u e e n s l a n d Page 4
