A Message from the President Last month, Ralph Kittler gave a very informative presentation on Natatorium design. His presentation will be available on our Chapter Website soon. Chapter Service Awards were presented to Paul Jensen, Devon Cortright and Carroll Suttles for their service to our Chapter. Thank you for serving our Chapter! Technical Awards were presented to Brandt Williams for New Construction in Schools and Devon Cortright for New Construction in Healthcare facilities. We will be looking for new entries for this year s Technical Awards. Please contact Javier Fernandez, ctt@ashrae4greenville.com, for further details. Please be sure to check out the Carolina Industrial & Facility Maintenance Show. This FREE event is positioned to serve the needs of facility management, plant engineering, plant management and all maintenance management professionals from across the Carolinas. Chapter Meeting in ASHEVILLE: We will have a meeting in Asheville on Wednesday, October 15 at the Lenoir-Rhyne University Asheville Graduate Center. The Center is located on the 3rd floor of the Asheville Chamber of Commerce building at 36 Montford Ave., just off I-40. October Meeting Presenter: Nick Searle. Nick Searle is a Regional Director of DADANCO-MESTEK, a manufacturer of chilled beams and perimeter induction units. He has over 20 years of experience in the design and selection of air distribution, chilled beams and noise control equipment. He has worked on several of the major chilled beam projects in the USA. In 1996 Nick joined Trox (UK), a manufacturer of air distribution products and air/water systems. In 2006, Nick relocated to North America to support the growing interest in chilled beam technology and has since become a permanent resident based in Atlanta, Georgia. Nick earned a BTEC in Mechanical and Air Conditioning Engineering at Wandsworth College London, UK, before going on to study Noise & Vibration Control Engineering at NESCOT, Epsom, UK. LECTURE TOPIC: Chilled beam technologies and applications Active chilled beam systems have been used for over 10 years in the USA. Most of these installations are in the northern states but the system is spreading into southern climates with installations in the Carolina s, Georgia, Alabama, Texas and Florida. This presentation covers the basics of chilled beam system design in humid climates with a case study of an installation in Tallahassee, Florida.
