CERTIFICATION FOR CHANGE PRACTITIONERS? Yes! That s correct. 1980s - Large consulting firms began to use the term. - Fortune 500 companies soon embraced it 1990s - Quick evolution present in IT and HR. - As a consequence these industries began communicating the benefits of change management but structure was initially limited. Mid 1990s 2000s - Reflects a wider acceptance of change management as a business competency. - Academic and organizational research confirmed the benefits and value. WHAT IF THE STATE OF THE PROFESSION Market Research carried out by the Association of Change Management Professionals and released in March 2013 found that: Change Management as a discipline is growing and is generally regarded as valuable, but the industry is fragmented and in need of standardization. Practitioners want certification and credentialing processes as part of the maturation of change management. About 1/3rd of organizations have some sort of formal Change Management Office, but almost three quarters of Change Management practitioners must also fulfill other professional roles. ONLY ONE CREDENTIAL? The World Café acknowledged that change management related credentials of different types may be required. ACMP intends to develop credentials that appropriately reflect the full range of roles involved in managing change. The Certified Change Management Professional (CCMP ) will be the core credential for practitioners who spend most or all of their time on the activities outlined in The Standard. WHAT IS CERTIFICATION? Certification A voluntary process to recognize individuals for meeting standards set by a third party. Accreditation A voluntary process to recognize institutions or organizations for meeting standards set by a third party. Licensure A mandatory governmental requirement necessary for individuals to practice in a particular profession. So I have done some CM training and passed a test - I have a certificate why would I need a certification? ANSI/ISO/IEC 17024 Harmonizes the personnel certification process worldwide. Is an International accreditation for organizations operating certifications of persons. Requires a rigorous application/approval process of the organization conveying the certification. Prestigious accreditation only awarded after in depth third party analysis of certification program operations, policies and procedures. Requires annual surveillance. Will complete another valuable milestone for ACMP as many global government entities prefer/require certification programs that have met the strict requirements of being accredited.
