New Investigator Form Applicants applying for consideration as a NHMRC New Investigator (NI) and/or Cancer Australia Young Investigator (YI) applicant are required to complete the New Investigator form prior to the close of the NI submission period. MANDATORY FIELDS You will notice this form contains mandatory fields marked with a red asterisk. In order to save this page, ALL mandatory fields must be complete. If a mandatory field does not apply to your circumstance or have any bearing on your application, enter N/A. Leaving the field blank will prevent you from saving the page. ENTER ONCE FIELDS The Administering Institution field is marked with a green arrow NHMRC, you are no longer able to edit the information.. When this information is submitted to For applicants who are applying as a Cancer Australia Young Investigator only, please complete the General section and set all drop down boxes from the Career disruption field onwards to No and enter N/A in the text fields. 1. From the RGMS landing page, select the Applicants Tab 2. Under Quicklinks for Applicants, select Create/view/edit new investigator form (Project Grants). 1
3. Select New Investigator Form to generate the form for your account. (Note: Only one New Investigator form may be active in RGMS. You may delete a previous New Investigator application in order to create a new one). 4. Enter the year and date that applies (using DD/MM/YYYY format), directly into the PHD Award Date field, or use the calendar select button to search for the appropriate date. For applicants without a PhD, but will complete their PhD within the current year, select the (future) award date and provide details in the additional comments field at the bottom of the form. If you do not have a PhD, leave the field blank and provide details why you should be considered as a New Investigator in the additional comments section. Note: All text fields in the form are limited to 1100 characters, including spaces and carriage returns. 5. In the Administering Institution field, select your Institution. For applicants who will change institutions before the close of applications to the Project Grants round, select the Institution to which you will transfer. Your new Research Administration Officer (RAO) will receive your eligibility outcome. 2
6. Select Yes or No in the Is a Career Disruption Being Claimed? Field. If you select Yes, enter details of your disruption in the Career Disruption Text field. If No is selected, enter N/A in the Career Disruption Text field. 7. Select Yes or No in the I have been a named CI (or Equivalent) on a funded NHMRC Project Grant and/or an ARC Discovery Grant. If you select Yes, enter relevant details in the If Yes, Details of Application/s field. If No is selected, enter N/A into this field. 8. Select Yes or No in the I have been a named CI (or equivalent) on a funded research grant from any other agency listed on the Australian Competitive Grants Register or from an international funding agency totalling $AUD 250,000 or more. If you select Yes, enter relevant details in the If Yes, Details of Application/s field. If No is selected, enter N/A into this field. 9. For details of previous funding not captured in the fields above, enter relevant information in the Details of Previous Funding Received (NHMRC and Other Sources). If you have no information to enter in this field, enter N/A. 10. Use the Additional Comments Field to enter any information that will assist in the assessment of your eligibility. Note: Additional explanatory information will not be accepted after the submission date. 11. Select Yes or No in the Seeking NHMRC New Investigator Status drop down menu, as appropriate. 12. Select Yes or No in the Seeking Cancer Australia Young Investigator Status drop down menu, as appropriate. The form cannot be submitted without the drop down menu being set to Yes for either the Seeking NHMRC New Investigator Status or Seeking Cancer Australia Young Investigator Status or both being set to Yes. 13. The default setting of the Submit Form is No. This field should only be set to Yes when all information is complete and entered into the form and you are submitting it for review by NHMRC. When the Submit Form field is set to Yes and the form is saved, all fields within the form are locked. No additional information can be entered. The form cannot be unlocked by applicants or NHMRC. Forms submitted after the close of the New Investigator submission period are not eligible for consideration as a New Investigator applicant. The application will proceed as a standard application. 3
