But what does it mean to be a leader? Yes, of course it can include roles like club president or team captain. How can everyone be a leader if there is only one club president? Of course! Being a leader isn t about titles. Being a leader is about behaviors and actions. Strong youth leaders exhibit the following traits: (The Young Leaders Academy of Baton Rouge, http://www.youngleaders.org/about-us/12-leadership-traits) 1. Bearing - The way you carry yourself. 2. Courage - To act in the face of fear. 3. Decisiveness - The ability to make up one's mind. 4. Enthusiasm - To be excited. 5. Initiative - The ability to set into action. 6. Integrity - To have sound moral character. 7. Judgment - To make the right decision. 8. Knowledge - To possess a full understanding. 9. Loyalty - To be faithful. 10. Perseverance - To never give up. 11. Responsibility - To be in charge of your actions. 12. Unselfishness - To think of other's first. Take a moment this month to consider the way your peers view you. Make the necessary changes to be a young leader. And remember People will summarize your life in one sentence. Pick it now. -John Maxwell, from Leadership Gold: Lessons I ve Learned from a Lifetime of Leadership - 117 N JOHN WAYNE DR, WINTERSET, IA 515.462.1001 MON-FRI, 8AM-12:30PM & 1PM-4:30PM LEARN MORE AT WWW.EXTENSION.IASTATE.EDU/MADISON/4H Iowa State University Extension programs are available to all without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, or disability.

Family & volunteer news & Updates 2015 4-H'ers for 4-H Campaign The 30 th annual 4-H ers for 4-H Campaign begins March 1. The campaign, conducted by members of the State 4-H Council, coincides with the 2015 Iowa 4-H Youth Conference theme, Dare to Discover. The goal is to raise $30,000 by asking every 4-H club to consider a donation of $3.00 per member. Why support this campaign? Approximately one-third of the funds support the State 4-H Council program, which in turn provides the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference experience for 8-12 th grade 4-H ers. Almost half of the funds are distributed back to 4-H members in the counties in the form of scholarships for out -of-county 4-H experiences and financial assistance to help cover program development fee costs. 4-H club leaders will soon receive campaign information via email or U.S. mail from the State 4-H Council. This information also can be found online: https:// www.iowa4hfoundation.org/4hersfor4h. Clubs can send contributions directly to the Iowa 4-H Foundation.
