First, in any serius life threatening emergency, always call 911 and alert Campus Public Safety. If a dangerus situatin has been cnfirmed n campus, the apprpriate First Respnders will be called t respnd. When law enfrcement fficials arrive, they wn t knw the gd peple frm the bad peple, s remain calm, shw them yur hands, and prvide them with as much specific infrmatin as pssible abut the individual. A nrmal reactin t a hstile intruder situatin is t panic. Preplanning yur wn individual actins fr such an incident will greatly imprve yur initial reactins and increase yur chances fr survival. The Credible Caller: The caller has definite knwledge r believes that an explsive device has been r will be placed, and wants t warn f the threat t minimize persnal injuries r prperty damage. The caller may be the persn placing the bmb r smene wh has becme aware f infrmatin they believe t be credible. If yu receive a bmb threat by telephne, try t remain calm and btain as much infrmatin as pssible frm the caller. Recrd the time f call, sex f caller, phne number (if caller ID present). What did the caller say? Ask: When is it ging t explde? Where is the bmb? What des it lk like? / What kind f bmb is it? What will cause it t explde? Did yu place the bmb? Why? What is yur name and address? Write dwn infrmatin abut the caller: Man r a wman? Apprximate age? Unusual speech traits? Tne f vice and attitude? Freign r reginal accent? Backgrund nise? If the threat was delivered r left in yur area, try t recall a descriptin f the deliverer r any suspicius persn(s) in the area. Immediately ntify Campus Public Safety. Reprt the time, lcatin and cntent f the threat, as well as yur lcatin and phne number. Take n ther actin unless directed by Campus Public Safety. D nt create a panic situatin. Shelter-In-Place One f the prtective actins that may be issued by Campus Public Safety r Campus Crisis Management Team persnnel is SHELTER-IN-PLACE. A Shelter-In-Place prtective actin may be issued in respnse t a hazardus materials spill / release in the lcal area. This prtective actin is aimed t keep students, faculty, and staff safe while remaining indrs. Shelter-In-Place means selecting a secure, interir rm if pssible, with n r few windws, and taking refuge there. If utdrs, find a safe lcatin in the nearest building away frm drs and windws. Once inside, clse all drs and windws. If pssible, clse r seal air vents, dr jams and any ther larger penings t the utside. Clse windw shades, blinds, r curtains. Behaviral Threat / Crisis MDC Emergency Actin Guide Each campus has established a Behaviral Threat Assessment Triage team cnsisting f members frm Public Safety, Dean f Students, Dean f Academic Affairs, and Directr f Administrative Services. When the campus Behaviral Threat Assessment Triage team learns abut a threat r ther disturbing behavir, there is a general sequence f steps they can take t screen the case, determine whether t initiate an inquiry, gather infrmatin, evaluate the persn and situatin invlved, and develp and implement a management strategy where necessary. The majr steps f the campus threat assessment and management prcess include: 1. Identifying persns/cases f cncern; encuraging reprting. 2. Screening cases fr further investigatin/inquiry. 3. Gathering additinal infrmatin frm multiple surces (FULL INQUIRY). 4. Evaluating case and assigning a case pririty level. 5. Develping, implementing, and mnitring a threat management plan. 6. Hurricanes reaching Categry 3 and higher are cnsidered majr hurricanes because f their ptential fr significant lss f life and damage. The updated maps are a significant change in the areas that are at risk fr strm surge, when cmpared t what was used fr the last 10 years.
