5 Persnal Cmputer It is suggested that all persnal cmputers be backed up. Cpies f the persnal cmputer files shuld be upladed t the System i envirnment n (date) at (time), just befre a cmplete save f the system is dne. It is then saved with the nrmal system save prcedure. This prvides fr a mre secure backup f persnal cmputer-related systems where a lcal area disaster can wipe ut imprtant persnal cmputer systems. Sectin 6. Disaster recvery prcedures Fr any disaster recvery plan, these three elements shuld be addressed. Emergency respnse prcedures T dcument the apprpriate emergency respnse t a fire, natural disaster, r any ther activity in rder t prtect lives and limit damage. Backup peratins prcedures T ensure that essential data prcessing peratinal tasks can be cnducted after the disruptin. Recvery actins prcedures T facilitate the rapid restratin f a data prcessing system fllwing a disaster. Disaster actin checklist This checklist prvides pssible initial actins that yu might take fllwing a disaster. Recvery startup prcedures fr use after actual disaster Cnsider these recvery startup prcedures fr use after actual disaster. Sectin 7. Recvery plan fr mbile site This tpic prvides infrmatin abut hw t plan yur recvery task at a mbile site. 1. Ntify f the nature f the disaster and the need t select the mbile site plan. 2. Cnfirm in writing the substance f the telephne ntificatin t within 48 hurs f the telephne ntificatin. 3. Cnfirm all needed backup media are available t lad the backup machine. 4. Prepare a purchase rder t cver the use f backup equipment. 5. Ntify f plans fr a trailer and its placement (n side f ).

6 6. Depending n cmmunicatin needs, ntify telephne cmpany ( ) f pssible emergency line changes. 7. Begin setting up pwer and cmmunicatins at. a. Pwer and cmmunicatins are prearranged t hk int when trailer arrives. b. At the pint where telephne lines cme int the building ( ), break the current linkage t the administratin cntrllers ( ). These lines are reruted t lines ging t the mbile site. They are linked t mdems at the mbile site.the lines currently ging frm t wuld then be linked t the mbile unit via mdems. c. This can cnceivably require t redirect lines at cmplex t a mre secure area in case f disaster. 8. When the trailer arrives, plug int pwer and d necessary checks. 9. Plug int the cmmunicatins lines and d necessary checks. 10. Begin lading system frm backups. 11. Begin nrmal peratins as sn as pssible: a. Daily jbs b. Daily saves c. Weekly saves 12. Plan a schedule t back up the system in rder t restre n a hme-base cmputer when a site is available. (Use regular system backup prcedures). 13. Secure mbile site and distribute keys as required. 14. Keep a maintenance lg n mbile equipment. Mbile site setup plan Yu can attach the mbile site setup plan here. Recvery plan fr ht site An alternate ht site plan shuld prvide fr an alternative (backup) site. The alternate site has a backup system fr temprary use while the hme site is being reestablished. 1. Ntify f the nature f the disaster and f its desire fr a ht site. 2. Request air shipment f mdems t fr cmmunicatins. (See fr cmmunicatins fr the ht site.) 3. Cnfirm in writing the telephne ntificatin t within 48 hurs f the telephne ntificatin. 4. Begin making necessary travel arrangements t the site fr the peratins team. 5. Cnfirm that yu have enugh save media and that it is packed fr shipment t restre n the backup system. 6. Prepare a purchase rder t cver the use f the backup system. 7. Review the checklist fr all necessary materials befre departing t the ht site.

7 8. Make sure that the disaster recvery team at the disaster site has the necessary infrmatin t begin restring the site. 9. Prvide fr travel expenses (cash advance). 10. After arriving at the ht site, cntact hme base t establish cmmunicatins prcedures. 11. Review materials brught t the ht site fr cmpleteness. 12. Start t lad the system frm the save media. 13. Begin nrmal peratins as sn as pssible: a. Daily jbs b. Daily saves c. Weekly saves 14. Plan the schedule t back up the ht-site system in rder t restre n the hme-base cmputer. If the riginal site must be restred r replaced, the fllwing questins are sme f the factrs t cnsider: What is the prjected availability f all needed cmputer equipment? Will it be mre effective and efficient t upgrade the cmputer systems with newer equipment? What is the estimated time needed fr repairs r cnstructin f the data site? Testing the disaster recvery plan In successful cntingency planning, it is imprtant t test and evaluate the plan regularly. Data prcessing peratins are vlatile in nature, resulting in frequent changes t equipment, prgrams, and dcumentatin. These actins make it critical t cnsider the plan as a changing dcument.
