Install Provided Driver pack (Located on the USB stick itself.) Disable anti-virus software Fully update the program by going to "Tools - Update" Put phone into USB DEBUGGING MODE. If you are unsure on how to do this follow these instructions: http://sticks.paraben.com/developer-mode.html Recoverying Data from Androird OS Based Device: Step 1. Driver Installation Plug the Phone Recovery Stick into your computers USB Port 2. Make sure the Phone Recovery Stick is detected by Windows. It is detected as a common USB drive and will be marked as a Removable drive in the list of your drives. The following is an example of what Windows will see. 3. Next open Windows Explorer or My Computer and select the Removable Disk that is the Phone Recovery Stick. As seen below:
4. Double-click the PhoneRecoveryStick.exe to start it. PhoneRecoveryStick.exe is the highlight file below: 5. Installation of drivers. If drivers for Android OS based device are not installed, the Phone Recovery Stick Driver Pack installation wizard starts. Below is the first screen that will come up prompting you for the driver installation: 6. Click on the Next button in the Driver Pack installation wizard. 7. You must accept the terms of the license agreement to continue. Accept and click Next.
8. On the Customize Setup page you do not need to change any settings, click Next. 9. On the Ready to Install page, click Next to start driver installation.
10. Installation will now start. 11. When installation is finished, click Finish on the last page of the Driver Pack installation wizard. 12. Remove the Phone Recovery Stick from the USB port. 13. It is now recommended that you Restart the computer to make sure installation has been completed correctly. 14. To verify that drivers have been installed correctly, Paraben s Phone Recovery Stick Driver Pack will now appear in Control Panel/All Control Panel Items/Programs and Features.
Step 2. Data Acquisition and Recovery. 1. Plug the Phone Recovery Stick into your computers USB Port 2. Double-click on the PhoneRecoveryStick.exe to start it. PhoneRecoveryStick.exe is the highlight file below: 3. The Phone Recovery application main window opens
4. Connect your Android OS based device into a different USB Port on the computer using the cable that came with your Phone Recovery Stick. Make sure your device is powered ON when it is connected. 5. Click Start Recovery on the Main page. 6. You will be prompted for to change the default path for the case data to increase the speed of the recovery. Click Continue Acquisition to acquire data to the stick. Click Change Default Path to define a new path for case data to be saved to. 7. This can be anywhere that you have enough space to save the data to. It is common to select the Desktop to save this data to. 8. When the path is set, click Save and then again click Start Recovery on the Main page. 9. Click on the image of the device you want to scan. If multiple devices are connected to your computer, multiple images are displayed. NOTE: If a picture of your device doesn t appear please reconnect the device (sometimes it makes sense to use back USB ports instead of front) and make sure it is powered ON. 10. The details of the acquisition process are displayed in the Acquisition details pane in the bottom of the screen. 11. When the acquisition finishes, you can start reviewing the data. 12. All of the case data is automatically saved to the default location specified at the beginning of the process or if you did not change to a specific location it will be saved to the default location. You can find the default location by going to Tools> Options. How To update the Phone Recovery stick If you have an old version of the Phone Recovery stick you can easily update it on-line. 1. Connect the stick to the computer with Internet connection and start the Phone Recovery stick application (in a common way). 2. You are proposed to check for Phone Recovery stick updates. Click Yes. 3. If you have selected not to show this message, select Tools>Check for Updates. 4. The application connects to the update server via Internet. When the update process finishes, the console window closes and the updated Phone Recovery application starts. Now it s ready for use.
Trouble Shooting Guide. The following section provides answers for some common issues that you may encounter when using Phone Recovery Stick. Problem: The Android OS based device hung. What do I do? Solution: Reset the Android OS based device. Problem: The Android OS based device doesn't connect to the computer. What to do? Solution: Please try one of the following: The Android OS based device battery might need to be recharged. If that doesn't work, disconnect other USB devices from your computer and connect the Android OS based device to a different USB 2.0 port on your computer. If that doesn't work, turn the Android OS based device off and turn it on again. If that doesn't work, restart your computer and reconnect the Android OS based device to your computer.
