ABOUT THE GOLF-A-THON
DAY OF ACTIVITIES The Golf-A-Thon will be a festival atmosphere, with participants enjoying a day of food, drinks, music, and competitions. The main event is the full day Golf Marathon Drive, Chip and Putt Competition for The First Tee Participants taking place on the driving range and practice putting greens Longest drive and closest to the pin contests Hole-in-one car giveaway Afternoon barbeque with live entertainment and family friendly activities Demo Day from leading golf equipment brands in the evening VisionWorks will provide free eye screening and examination for all young participants in attendance. WHAT IS A GOLF-A-THON? Golfers independently pledge to play a certain number of holes in one day. Every golfer s goal is to generate money for The First Tee of Greater Washington, D.C. by obtaining sponsors who will pledge money for every hole played. Each golfer will create a profile on crowdrise.com/golfathon. SPEED GOLF is the order of the day. Participants will be provided with a mesh bag of golf balls at the beginning of the day. If you lose a ball, just drop a new one and keep it moving! Some players will keep scores for every round and others will not. Scores are not important, however, the rules of golf and golf etiquette should be observed. Junior golfers in The First Tee program who are course ready will participate in the Golf-A-Thon.

WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO? Last year, our participants collectively fundraised over $18,000. As a result, The First Tee continues to offer free programming in 2015 for its participants at the Fort Belvoir location. Proceeds from this year s event will go towards creating a college scholarship for a high school senior in The First Tee program. $100: Full set of golf clubs, golf bag and golf balls $150: Sponsors a participant for a six-week programming session $250: Sponsors 10 female students in our LPGA/USGA Girls Golf Program $500: Sponsors a four-person team to compete in the Northeast Regional Challenge, an 18-hole golf tournament and life skills competition that enables Chapter participants the opportunity to associate with golfers from other areas $1,000: Sponsors a junior s participation in The First Tee Life Skills Experience Certifying Program, where participants receive life skills training and character education through golf $2,500: Provides funding for The First Tee in-person training to Coaches and Volunteers so they can provide quality The First Tee instruction $10,000: Provides funding to secure Fort Belvoir as a Program Location in 2016
WHO WE ARE YOUNG PROFESSIONALS COUNCIL The Young Professionals Council is a network of active young professionals dedicated to advancing the mission of The First Tee of Greater Washington, DC. Through fundraising, volunteering, and broadening awareness of The First Tee, we are focused on providing resources such as college preparation, scholarship support and equipment for its participants. The First Tee of Greater Washington, DC programming and curriculum, designed for young people ages 7-18, incorporates the Nine Core Values that represent the positive values connected with the game of golf: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, judgment, and courtesy. Accompanying the National School Program at all DC Public Schools, TFT- GDC offers Certifying and TARGET programs through a partnership with East Potomac Park, Rock Creek Golf Course, and the historic Langston Golf Course, a member of the National Black Golf Hall of Fame. With a focus on diversity, 81% of chapter participants are minorities and 38% are female.
