The Employee Handbook Is it useful? Not really. 30% of non-millennials and 43% of Millennials report that they haven t read most of their employee handbooks. 11% of Millennials have not even opened their handbooks significantly higher than non-millennials. 23% of non-millennials and 36% of Millennials don t even know where their handbooks are anymore. Only 1 in 4 Millennials find employee handbooks helpful (compared to only 1 in 3 non-millennials).
But do benefits matter to employees? How do employees want to receive benefits-related communications from their employers? -30% SnailMail: Millennials are 30% less likely, than non-millennials, to want to receive communications via snail mail. +154% = +18% Email: Both Millennials and non-millennials rated email equally as a method of communicating benefits. Face-to-Face: Millennials are 18% more likely, than non-millennials, to want to receive benefits communications face-to-face. Texting a link to a mobile device: Millennials are 154% more likely than non-millennials to want to receive a benefits-related link texted to their mobile device.
How are employers currently packaging the benefits communications? 16% Only 16% are using videos to communicate benefits options There is a huge opportunity to educate and engage employees using technology they use as consumers. 38% 87% 38% are using in-person presentations 87% are using print materials as one of their methods of communication. What do Millennials want? 61% Almost 44% of Millennials would like to receive critical benefits-related communications on their mobile device. 56% of Millennials wish their employers would communicate benefits in a way that is easier to understand. (compared to 46% overall) 61% of Millennials want to leverage their benefits, but would like to spend as little time as possible to learn about them. (compared to 51% overall)
What devices are available to employees at work? 87% have computers at their desk and over half have their personal mobile phones at work. About the survey The 2014 Employee Benefits Survey Report is based on a survey of 551 full-time employees conducted in March 2014, by GuideSpark. Participants included employees based in the U.S., from companies with 500 or more employees. Millennials in this survey are defined as employees between the ages of 18 29.
