Cisco VoIP CUCM Labs by Michael T. Durham Welcome to NetCertLabs CCNA/CCNP Voice Lab series. In this lab we downloading the free version of VMWare Hypervisor. At the time this lab was written, the current version of Hypervisor ESXi is 5.1. We will show you where to get a copy of Hypervisor should you need/want to install it as a fresh install. Also, although CUCM servers shipped by NetCertLabs has Hypervisor pre-installed and configured, the evaluation time is just 60 days before you must license Hypervisor. The great news is that Hypervisor ESXi 5.1 licenses are free! Equipment used in this lab: Personal Computer with a CD/DVD burner ISO Burning Software Internet access Lab 1 - VMWare Hypervisor ESXi 5.1 Download and Free License For this lab we need to get two pieces of software, one to burn a bootable CD/DVD disk and the other is VMWare s Hypervisor ESXi 5.1 (or the most current version). Check your computer to see if it already has an application to burn CD/DVD s from an ISO image. If you do not have on already installed, we have found a good one that is also free. It is called ISO Recorder 3.1 and can be downloaded from the creator s website at: http://alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm. Be sure to get version 3.1 if you are running Windows 7. Follow the installation instructions, they are very simple. Now you will be able to make bootable CD/DVD s from ISO files as well as make ISO files too. You need to create an account on VMWare s website so you may access the download section and also to get your free license for Hypervisor. Go to www.vmware.com and click the My VMware button to get the login screen. Next, click the link at the bottom of the login window that says; Register for My VMware.
Complete the questionnaire to sign up for your free VMware account. VMWare will send you a conformation to confirm account via the email. Follow the instructions within the email. In your web browser, go to the url: http://www.vmware.com/products/vsphere-hypervisor/overview.html, click the My VMware to login into your account. You will be taken to another web page, just click the back button on your web browser to get back the screen below. Now click on the Download button. You will be taken to a EULA (End User License Agreement) page where you will need to accept end user license agreement to get your license number.
Once you have accepted the EULA, you will see your own free VMWare Hypervisor ESXi 5.1 license number. BE SURE TO PRINT THIS PAGE for your records. On this page you need to click Manual Download and download a copy of the software. If you only need the license number to active a server that NetCertLabs sent you, you can skip the next step. Install and configure VMware Hypervisor ESXi 5.1 as per the instructions on the VMware website. Just make a bootable CD via the VMware ISO download using ISO Recorder you downloaded and installed above. Once you have made the bootable CD, load it into the server s CD/DVD drive and power on the unit. Go into the system BIOS and verify/set the CD/DVD as the first boot device. Also check the setting virtualization mode and be sure it is enabled. Be sure to assign a static IP address to the VMWare Hypervisor server software. We recommend the IP address 192.168.10.9/24. It is VERY important to have the VMWare server on the same subnet as your workstations. Once you accept the certificate from VMWare you can place the Hypervisor server on a different subnet as long as you have a route to it. (This IP address does not have to be on the same subnet as your CUCM, CUPS, or CUC servers). Once you have installed Hypervisor, open your web browser and enter the IP address you assigned to your Hypervisor server and press enter. You need to accept the web browser s certificate and then you will see the screen below: Click the link Down vsphere Client to download the client you will be using to access the VMware Hypervisor server configurations. Follow the installation instructions.
Now that we have the VMware Hypervisor server installed onto the server and the client software installed on your PC, we need to apply the Hypervisor license we got from VMware. Click on the VMware client and enter your server s IP address, the username root and the password you set when you configured Hypervisor on the server and click login. Once you login you will get the popup window reminding you that you have sixty days to activate your license or Hypervisor might stop running. To prevent that from happening we are going to enter the license VMware provided up in the above steps. There are three steps we need to perform on the screenshot below. First click on Configuration tab, then in the Software box click on the link License Features, followed by clicking the Edit link
1 3 2 Once you click the edit link the window blow pops up. Select the radio button labeled: Assign a new license key to the host.
Next, click the Enter Key button where one more window will open where you will enter the license key VMware provided you. Once you enter the license key, click the OK button on both popup windows and your copy of Hypervisor is no fully licensed and will run on that license forever. After you have setup and tested this lab, please blog your experience on our blog site at: http://netcertlabs.com/netcertlabs-blog Thank You,
