Travelling Abroad Level: 2º de Bachillerato. Grammar: Reported speech. Introductory verbs. Functions: Talking about people s personality. Reporting statements, questions, suggestions, advice and commands in different situations. Vocabulary: Customs. Food. Sports. Holidays. Adjectives related to personality. Phrasal verb: turn. Phonetics: Pronunciation of the sounds in shoe, sue and zoo. The titles for each part are at the bottom. Students should start the unit by clicking on the first title, and move to the next ones with the arrow next, so that they learn in a progressive way. Each chapter contains different activities with additional information on grammar explanations and glossary. They can move between the lessons by clicking at the titles at the bottom, or from the menu, they can go to any activity within the lesson, but it's advisable that they follow the order. In the final task they will have to get a score of 100% to be able to finish, otherwise they will have to repeat the exercise. Tell the students to follow the instructions for each activity, and to use the icons on the left for help on instructions, grammar, glossary, etc. When they finish most activities, they have to check their answers and click on the "next" arrow to go to the following one. To check your students' recordings, go to the activity and listen to it before another student uses the same lesson. Sessions: about two or three 50 minutes sessions. PART 1 Companions 1. Describing people s personality: In this exercise, students must click on each word and listen to the pronunciation of these adjectives related to personality. Then click and drag each of them next to their corresponding definitions. 2. Write the odd one: Next, students must fill each gap with the adjective that doesn't belong. 3. What do they think about Spanish people?: In this exercise, students must click on each picture, listen and choose the adjectives these people use to describe Spanish personality.
4. Finding a travelling companion: Here they will click on each picture, listen and drag the words to the corresponding place, so as to make complete reported sentences. They have to go through all cards before they check their answers. 5. Sounds: Here, students must practise some fricative sounds. They will listen to the words and click next to the sound which corresponds to the red coloured consonants. 6. Looking for a travelling companion: This is a writing activity, students must write an advertisement for finding a travelling companion, using the expressions and words previously learned. Then send it to your teacher or record it. PART 2 Experiences 1. Fill the gaps: In this exercise, students must report the conversation, completing the sentences and checking their answers. 2. ESL summer camp: Next, students must click and drag the words to put them in order to make complete reported sentences. 3. Order sentences: In this exercise, students must tidy up the words given to reconstruct the questions. 4. Reporting verbs: Here they must write the direct questions corresponding to the indirect ones. 5. Record sentences: Here, students must revise the use of reported speech with commands. Listen and record the same sentences in reported speech using different verbs. They may listen and repeat their recordings if necessary. 6. Complete gaps: In this exercise, students must complete the blanks with the help of the original conversation. PART 3 Advice 1. What do the British recommend?: In this exercise, students must click on the pictures, listen and drag each name to the corresponding sentence. 2. Reporting verbs: Next, students must click and drag to match verbs with structures. 3. Advice and suggestions: In this exercise, students will click on each verb to see an example sentence. Then try to order the verbs and their meanings by dragging the sentences on the right next to the correct meaning. 4. Advice and suggestions - matching: In this exercise, students must read the reported sentences and match them with the corresponding direct ones by dragging
them next to their definition. Next, they will read the reported sentences and match them to the corresponding direct ones by dragging the letters next to them. 5. Complete the story: Here, students will have to complete the story by reading it and filling the gaps with one of the verbs given in the correct tense. PART 4 Extension 1. Memory: This is a memory game. Students must match pairs of phrasal verbs and their meaning. They should click on help to know more about phrasal verbs. 2. Phrasal verb - turn: Next, students must complete the reported sentences with the missing phrasal verbs in the correct tense. 3. Reporting: In this exercise, students must click and drag each verb form to the corresponding place so as to complete the gaps. Then they will check their answers. They should try to get 100% right answers; otherwise they will have to repeat the activity. 4. Final task: This is a listening exercise where students must write the sentences on the left turning them into reported speech and using different reporting verbs. Then print it or show to their teacher.

David: I think a Spanish person coming to Britain should certainly try fish and chips Sara: I d recommend that a Spanish visitor tries our Yorkshire pudding, and roast beef and roast potatoes Mr. Sanders: I cooked a pasta only last night, it was basically, put the pasta in a saucepan, add some water to it, boil it up, put some garlic and some onion into the saucepan, and a bit of tomato sauce and butter mix them together, very nice indeed. Marcella: The easiest recipe I know is jacket potato, where you just peel the skin pop it in the oven for about an hour and a half, take it out, butter it and eat it. Frank: I d recommend a casserole with lots of meat and vegetables.
