Software 4 Load Indicator FH/FM Version 2 Indicates axle weight, load weight, and overall weight for the truck and trailers Measuring accuracy +/ 150 kg per axle The calculated weights are displayed in the instrument panel Clear symbols indicate which weight is being displayed Suits vehicles with air suspension Adapted for Dynafleet The Volvo load indicator system is an electronic/pneumatic system for measuring axle load and carried load. It is designed for trucks and trailers with air and leaf spring suspensions. It measures axle weight, load weight, and gross vehicle weight for the vehicle and trailers. This is achieved by a pressure sensor connected to the air bellows on the truck/trailer. Results are clearly shown digitally on a display. The figures presented in the display are very reliable and provide a good indication of any possible overloads. Reliability is important considering the fact that an overload could be hazardous in traffic, and could also result in fines. The measurements have shown an accuracy of +/ 150 kg per axle when calibration has been performed correctly. Calibration In order to maintain reliability in the system, the readings displayed should be checked on a regular basis. A new calibration should be performed when necessary. Reference values both with and without loads for vehicle combinations are measured on a scale and recorded, and are transmitted to the control module using Volvo s aftermarket tool. Number of sensors Varying numbers of sensors are necessary, depending on the type of trailer to be connected to the vehicle. The following can be taken as a general rule: Normally it is sufficient with one sensor per axle combination, front and rear. If the compressed-air system for a single axle combination is divided left and right, two sensors will be required, one for each side. If the axle combination consists of a bogie or several axles but with interconnected compressed-air system, one sensor will be enough. If the system is divided right and left, each side will need one sensor apiece.

5 A maximum of 4 pressure sensors can be connected to the control module. To sum. up: For maximum accuracy one sensor per air spring circuit. Note that these four vehicle combinations show only in principle what the system can measure. Quite often there is no problem if the vehicle has a double or triple axle. In most cases the air system is connected up. when several axles are installed, that is, the air bellows on the various axles and inter-linked and have the same pressure. It is enough, therefore, to connect a pressure sensor to ny of the bellows in order to measure the axle load for the vehicle combination in question. Functions The control unit for the system has the same housing dimensions as a Volvo radio and can be installed in the same way inside the cab. Simply pressing the appropriate button digitally registers the load on a display. Data Communications Load indicator communicates with other electronic systems as per SAE J1708 and SAE J1587. 27 Electronic Brake System EBS-STD to EBS-MED It is possible to upgrade vehicles with EBS-GEN3 and EBS-STD to EBS-MED. EBS-MED offers the following additional features. Hill start assist Hill start assist helps the driver to start in uphill sections. By activating the function, the brakes are not immediately released and the driver has extra time to accelerate. The function is deactivated when the switch is pressed in a second time. Hill start assist functions in different ways dependent on the gearbox: Manual gearbox: The brake pressure is maintained until the clutch pedal is released or until a specific engine torque is achieved. Automatic gearbox: The brake pressure is maintained constant for a specific time period after the brake pedal is released or until a specific engine torque is achieved. Throttle release torque control Throttle release torque control can prevent the driving wheels locking on slippery roads when the accelerator is released. If the wheels begin to lock, the auxiliary brake will be shut off and the driving wheels obtain a rotational speed which is equivalent to the vehicle s speed. The wheels will then regain grip with the road. The function automatically re-engages, if the vehicle s speed >10 kph. When the vehicle is disengaged or ABS is active on the front axle, the function is automatically disengaged. Automatic differential lock (4 2/6 2/8 2) Automatic differential lock (DLC, Diff Lock Control) is only available on vehicles with one drive axle. Differential lock is activated automatically when the driving wheels begin to rotate with different speeds. Before the function is engaged, the wheel speeds are synchronised. Automatic differential lock functions only at speeds <15 kph and automatically disengages if the speed exceeds 15 kph. Installation To install EBS-MED the needed hardware must be installed. Run the conversion kit in VCADS-Pro and reprogram the EBS control unit MID 136. Only the conversion kit will be invoiced.

Driver Alert Support, FH 40 Driver Alert Support (DAS) is a safety system that works with accident prevention. The target is to prevent accidents due to too tired drivers or drivers that fall asleep. For trucks equipped with Lane Keeping Support there is a software accessory available which adds on the functionality of warning the driver if degraded behaviour occurs, both with an acoustic warning and a warning in the Driver Information Display (DID). The Driver Alert Support monitors the driving behaviour and the position of the truck in comparison to the lane and road edges. The system detects driving characteristics of drowsy or inattentive drivers and encourages the driver to take break. If a degraded driving behaviour is recognized, the system will warn the driver, with both an acoustic warning and a warning in the DID. First warning is an alert, second warning a suggestion to take a break. When the acoustic warning is activated the radio will automatically be muted. 1st warning - When attention becomes low, the message Driver Alert Focus on driving will be displayed together with an audible warning (simultaneously the Audio system will be muted). 2nd warning - When attention becomes critically low, the message Driver Alert Time for a break will be displayed, together with a different audible warning (simultaneously the Audio system will be muted). With the 2nd level warning, the Cruise Control (CC) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) will be deactivated unless these functions at the time of the warning are requesting retardation of the vehicle.

41 The system is possible to deactivate through the safety menu in the DID. If deactivated a warning is showed in the DID that the system is Off. The system will automatically be activated when ignition is turned on. If the LSS-DW (Lane Keeping Support) can t find any reference (lane or road edges) or if the speed is below 65 Km/h the DAS will be deactivated and a warning is showed in the DID. Customer benefits: The Driver Alert Support system will improve active safety, by reducing risk for accidents caused by limited driver attention. Will reduce number of accidents, and thereby increase up-time. Easy to install, software only. Description Suitable for Part No. Software From W849: FH, 4x2 tractor, (built >W849) equipped with Lane Keeping Support 85116298 * ) Software From W911: All FH trucks (built >W849) equippped with Lane Keeping Support 85116298 * ) *) Program MID 238 and MID 140 after installation.
