Do I need a resume to apply? Resumes are welcome but are not necessary. If you do not have a resume, you will be given a job profile form. However, all candidates will need to fill out an online job application. What is the interview process? Candidates will receive information regarding the interview process and expectations at the introductory meeting. You can also reach out to any member of the transition team for specific questions relating to the role you are applying to. I am nervous about the interview process do you have any advice? It s completely natural to feel nervous and anxious. To prepare for an interview, try to relax and think or write about successes you ve had in your career, skills you ve acquired and where you see yourself in the future. It s also important to think about potential questions you may want to ask the interviewer. This is as much your opportunity to find out about us as ours to find out about you. What am I expected to prepare for the interview? Please come prepared with a resume or profile. As noted above, you may also want to come prepared with any notes you may have made, to reference during the interview. When will I find out if I ve been hired? The time it takes to inform applicants whether they have been successful or not in the interview process varies and can take up to a few weeks. How long must I wait before I can transfer to another position within Johnson Controls? There are a variety of opportunities to grow within Johnson Controls, we believe it s important for employees to wait one year to develop their skills and experience before transferring to another position. 8

Rewards shaped just for you Merit and Chairman s Awards The Johnson Controls Merit Awards program recognizes employees who have excelled based on one of the eight categories in the company s 10-Year Marker. Any Johnson Controls employee can nominate themselves, another employee, their own team or another team. In 2010, a record number of 900 Merit Award nominations were submitted, and of those nominations nearly 500 earned Merit Awards. Each business unit president, along with the Merit Award review team, then recommend Merit Award winners for Chairman s Award consideration. Chairman s Award winners receive $10,000 from Johnson Controls to contribute to the charity or charities of choice, and are invited to attend the annual Global Management Meeting with Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Steve Roell. Long Service Awards The long service awards recognize employees who have served Johnson Controls for five to more than 50 years. Signature awards from the company are presented at five and 10 years of service. Applicant online process overview Below is a list of online processes that will be initiated via email requests. Please be sure to take appropriate actions by the appropriate due date, so as to not disqualify yourself from further consideration in the recruitment process. 1. Online submittal of interest Johnson Controls Taleo process All candidates interested in employment with Johnson Controls must apply for open positions online. Please refer to the How To Apply section of this brochure. Also note that this step only expresses your interest in open positions. Completing your Johnson Controls employment application is a separate online process outlined below. Due date: 2. Completion of Johnson Controls job application Once candidates have submitted their interest in open positions (as outlined above), a request to complete an online employment application will be generated and sent to each applicant at the email address you provide. Due date: 3. Background verification Selected candidates must satisfactorily complete a background check. They will be required to provide information, online, as outlined in an email request that will be generated after face to face interviews are completed. Due date: 4. Drug tests Candidates will be required to satisfactorily complete a drug test. You will be notified of the process by a member of the transition team, and drug tests must be completed within 48 hours of the request. Due date: 5. Offers of employment Final candidates that have successfully completed their background check and drug test will be issued offer letters and new hire packets. You will have five (5) business days to return signed offer letters and completed new hire paperwork to a Johnson Controls Human Resources Representative. Due date: 6. I-9 Employment verification Final candidates/new hires will be required to complete Section I of an electronic I-9 form; prior to first day of employment. An email request will be generated that will provide direction on how to complete this task. Appropriate identification for completing the I-9 process must be brought to the Onboarding/Orientation session for inspection and documenting. Please note that this is required by law.
