Thinking of Nursing at WPU? A presentation for prospective transfer students looking to apply to William Paterson University's Nursing Program.

A Transfer Student For purpose of this presentation is someone who has completed college level courses within the past two years. A student without college level work in the past two years would be classified as a non-traditional student; please contact the Undergraduate Admission s Office with questions regarding a non-traditional student and nursing. A student with a prior baccalaureate degree would be considered a second degree student and this presentation is not intended for you. Please see the link for second degree student info on the prior webpage. 2

Minimum requirements to apply for nursing at WPU as a transfer student is a 3.0 GPA. Realize this is the minimum requirement. Acceptance is academically competitive and limited by the number of seats available. Therefore: - The higher your cumulative GPA the better your chances. - Having completed most, if not all of the nursing prerequisites required by WPU enhances your chances of acceptance. - Due to the academic competitiveness of the program, a student with a great GPA and none or too few of the prerequisites may be denied acceptance into the nursing major; they may certainly reapply when they may be a more qualified candidate. 3

Students who possess the higher GPA s and most if not all of the prerequisites have the best chances of acceptance into the major. The application deadline is February 1 st. The Undergraduate Admission s Office must receive: 1. Completed online application 2. Application fee 3. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities previously attended or the application will be incomplete and not considered. Decisions will not be made until after the February 1 st deadline (unless something within the students academic history would prevent that student from ever being accepted into nursing at William Paterson University.) 5

Accepted transfer students normally come on campus in the fall semester to complete any necessary prerequisites (typically PBHL 2240, NUR 3500 and BIO 3120. Transfer students accepted into nursing are expected to be prepared to commence the nursing core courses the following spring semester. All pre and co-requisite courses must be completed prior to starting the nursing major NUR prefix core courses in spring. 6

Currently we are unaware of an equivalent course at nearby colleges and/or universities. 9

Nursing Research NUR 3500 MATH 1300 Elementary Statistics is a prerequisite for NUR 3500. NUR 3500 Nursing Research is expected to be completed at WPU in the fall semester prior to commencing the NUR core sequence of courses in the spring semester. 10

A grade of C- or below in a nursing prerequisite course will prevent a student from being accepted into the nursing major at WPU even if the course is repeated. Students dismissed from another nursing program will not be accepted into nursing at WPU.
