STEP 6 FAQ 1F1R Benefits Why Do Restaurants Enroll In 1F1R? Most important, every Sponsored & Donated Meal helps cure family hunger in your own community. Boost your business, build tremendous goodwill and long term guest loyalty. 1F1R is free, no enrollment or monthly fees. In a matter of minutes you can sign up and make meal donations by computer or cell phone Social media and marketing features are integrated so you can share your effort, post your logo, take a meal selfie. A location map is a built in feature. When you invite a hungry family into your restaurant you help restore their dignity and hope. What is unique about 1F1R? 1F1R is a unique sustainable program Hungry families are dining in or carrying out meals so restaurant overhead is eliminated to properly package, store, and transport food to a food bank or pantry partner. Restaurants do not have the time consuming burden of locating a food bank or pantry partner. 1F1R connects with affiliated Feeding America, nationally recognized food banks and other pantry partners. Restaurants have assurance their meals are feeding actual families in need because the Food Banks & Pantry Partners pre-screen and monitor all who need assistance. Does 1F1R help Food Banks & Pantry Partners? Yes, Food Banks & Pantry Partners do not require the overhead to properly store, reheat and provide meals. 11
FAQ Enrollment & Creating meals How do I get started? Go to 1F1R.com - Click restaurant tab sign up. Your restaurant is reviewed for approval within 48 hours. Once approved you then create Sponsored and Donated Meals. Is there a charge to be part of the 1F1R program? No, it is free to participate in the 1F1R program. What type of meals do I create? There are 2 types of meals that a restaurant provides: A Sponsored Meal is one that the restaurant creates for people in the community to purchase A Donated Meal is one that the restaurant provides on their own behalf How do restaurants/cafes create Sponsored and Donated Meals? After a restaurant or food establishment has been approved by 1F1R, they log into their 1F1R account. Click the Sponsored Meals and/or Donated Meals. What is the typical # of meals provided? Sponsored Meals average about The reason this number is high is because restaurants typically set no limit because they know the meals are being purchased by customers and people in the community. Donated Meals average about 5-12 per week. Do I have to provide Donated Meals to participate? You do not have to provide Donated Meals, you can simply provide Sponsored Meals, although we recommend donating a few meals each week because other restaurants have seen the benefits in building customer goodwill. What should a meal consist of? We encourage a healthier meal option. *See healthy dining recommendations at 1F1R.com/healthy-meals. Can a meal be for any part of the day? Yes, breakfast, lunch, dinner or any time a restaurant specifies. What price do I create for the Sponsored Meals? You may set any price. We recommend a reduced wholesale price to encourage your customers to participate. Do meal prices vary by restaurant? Meal values will vary depending on the type of restaurant; i.e. fast casual, full serve, etc. Can I build in a tip for my staff? Yes, you can add a tip as part of the complete meal value. This is at the discretion of the restaurant. Can I specify day(s), time(s), and number of meals to be redeemed? Yes, restaurants have complete flexibility to customize meal donations. (Date, Time, # of meals, Dine In or Carry Out). A restaurant can also modify their meals any time provided they have not been issued. We also encourage restaurants to accept reservations which may occasionally be redeemed outside the range. Do meal reservations have a specific redemption day? Yes, restaurants can specific the exact day and time. This helps monitor a meal redemption at the restaurants discretion. 12
FAQ Enrollment & Meal Donations (cont.) Should meals be grouped together for a family or individual? Every meal you create is for one person. Food banks will group the meal reservations according to number of family members. Is there a dress code for hungry families? The majority of food insecure families look like everyone else. You may specify a dress code when creating your meals. Who informs hungry families of the dress code? Food banks or pantry partners distributing the meal reservations communicate to the food insecure families. The meal reservation form also has a notation. Pantry Partners are aware of the dress code and provide reservations appropriately. Our experience indicates most food insecure families tend to overdress for the privilege of dining at a restaurant. How far out should I build the reservation dates? We suggest 1-6 months with a calendar reminder to renew. Can I donate left over food? If you are anticipating left over food, you can create reservations ahead of time provided you allow a minimum of 5 days for the reservation to be properly routed. Meal Redemption & Payment How do we know the meals are provided to food insecure families in need? 1F1R partners with nationally recognized Food Banks & Pantry Partners that properly monitor and screen food insecure hungry families. How do Food Banks & Pantry Partners receive and assign meal reservations to food insecure families? Meal reservations route to the closest Food Bank/ Pantry Partner after verification by 1F1R. A reservation meal ticket is created and provided to the food insecure person/family to redeem at your restaurant. How do you prevent reservation meal fraud? Restaurants, Food Banks & Pantry Partners are approved by 1F1R admin before participating. Every meal reservation has its own unique reservation code. Food Banks & Pantry Partners monitor the reservations for every food insecure family. When the reservation has been redeemed, a restaurant ambassador enters the code (computer or mobile phone) into their dashboard to verify redemption. When are the Sponsored Meal payments reimbursed? After a sponsored meal is redeemed at your restaurant, your account is reconciled every 30 days and a check is mailed to you from 1F1R. 13
FAQ Promoting in My Restaurant How can I promote my 1F1R efforts? Social media features are integrated into 1F1R.com at no charge. Share your efforts with your existing customers. Can I list my logo and location? Yes, log into your account, go to my profile, and then profile images. Add your logo, restaurant picture or meal selfie. A location map feature is automatically incorporated into your information for people in the community to reference. Are there any marketing materials available? When you enroll 1F1R provides at no charge a window cling and easel stand POP. There are additional marketing components that can be ordered through 1F1R at wholesale cost. Are there social media marketing materials available? Yes, there is a complete library of e-blasts and forms that you can use at no charge. General Can my restaurant help a hungry family in other ways? Yes, the restaurant industry represents one of the largest employers in America. Most food insecure families are in this position due to loss of employment. An opportunity for employment may exist which would help a food insecure person step out of the food line permanently and transform their life. What type of Restaurant can enroll? Any licensed restaurant, cafe, catering service, grocery store, even food trucks can enroll, provided 1F1R can verify and approve your information. 1F1R reserves the right at its discretion to remove any restaurant any time. What is the difference between a Food Bank and Pantry Partner? There are approximately 200 food banks across America that fall under Feeding America. Food Banks act as the central umbrella in geographic areas across the county. Pantry Partners are smaller non-profit groups that fall under the Food Banks. I.e. St. Vincent de Paul, Boys and Girls Club etc. Pantry Partners and Food Banks work in conjunction with each other to ensure food is properly distributed to all. There are also a few independent Pantry Partners across the nation that do not fall under a Food Bank. 14
FAQ General (cont.) Can people buy meals directly from the restaurant? No, because 1F1R works in conjunction with Food Banks & Pantry Partners to validate and secure meal reservations and ensure proper issuance to hungry, food insecure families in need. Does 1F1R tie into my POS in the restaurant? No, 1F1R operates independently from all POS systems. What are the program expenses for 1F1R? 1F1R does not make money on the Donated Meals. Sponsored Meals have a 15% admin fee applied to the cost of the meal to cover minimal foundation operating costs, processing fees, administrative overhead, ongoing web development and foundation support. As a restaurant owner, will food insecure people interfere with the overall guest experience? Food Banks & Pantry Partners follow the best practices in distributing the reservations and informing the family of any dress code requirements. The majority of all food insecure people look and dress like everyone else. Food insecurity is not the same as being homeless; 93% of food insecure people are not homeless. The growing population are seniors with grandchildren, veterans, single moms and families much like your own. The 1F1R program applies to food insecure families that are currently active through Food Banks & Pantry Partners. If you have any concerns please notify info@1f1r.com. Is my information secured? Yes, 1F1R will not share, sell, or license your personal information to a 3rd party. Is 1F1R a non-profit foundation? Yes, 1 Family 1 Restaurant is a recognized 501(c) (3) non-profit organization. All contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowable by law. Can I donate directly to the 1F1R foundation?
