2 From the 2nd to the 20th of January (19 days) the association s 9 teams have played 55 matches. That is 1/3rd of the matches played up to now, which means 3 matches per day. Most of the matches have been in the GP-puck competition - 21 matches (up to now). Team 84 (U14) have had to match tie their skates 14 times. Apart from this, the association has had 24 training passes as well as the Hockey School twice, compared with the time 2nd to the 20th of November when 19 matches were played and there were 26 training passes. There ar 22 matches booked up to and including the February holiday (9th February), with the exception of Järnbrotts-Day Saturday the 28th of February. Wooden has written the following in one of his books: I always emphasize to my players that I expect them to do their very best. They should be satisfied with their victories and personal prestations, but most of all their behaviour after a match should never disclose if they have won or lost. There is no reason to be excessively exhorbitant after a victory or feel down in the dumps after a defeat. Perhaps it is not so strange that Wooden had great suceess as a coach in the tough basket sport world. ILLNESS NEVER train or play when you have a temperature. Just inform your coach! THE MATCH An ice hockey match is a tension loaded occasion,which should be filled with festivity and gladness. A match can be divided into: Preparation: The players get ready, get changed together, concentrate themselves on the match, the coach goes through the fives and gives some small advice before the match. Warming up: The players prepare their bodies for physical exertion by jogging, gymnastics and stretching. Unwinding: The players and leaders get together in the changing room to unwind in peace and quiet and to say a few words about the match.

3 OFFSIDE NEWS 18 ENGLISH THURSDAY 29 JANUARY SIGNED HÅKAN GUSTAFSSON THE FIRST GP-PUCK VICTORY WAS DONE BY THE 88 S After trying 29 years, we won a GP-puck class. Hearty congratulations to Coach Conny Karlsson and Peter Lindqvist. The commemmorable players Were Simon Eliasson (final goal shorter when the time was minutes), Patrik Korneliusson, Christoffer Ericsson, Alexander Johansson, Niklas Lindqvist, Christian Lundgren, Christoffer Rundberg, Victor Reis, Niclas Bheekharry, Johan Sahlin, Robert Eslon, Alexander Wessman, Henrik Melkersson, Daniel Melin, Fredrik Berntsson, Erik Allinger, Erik Håkman, Daniel Koning och Adam Engström. WHAT METHOD! Said SH 84 s coach Lars Berntsson about the work outside the ice; and to be welcomed By the chairman of the home-team that was the first time ever. Unfortunately this move didnot help. SH 84 were too good. We played well out on the ice but there were too many give-away passes in our own zone which our opponents didn t refuse. The result was 4-9 Goal scorers; Jonas Persson 2 goals, Pierre Westerlund and Peter Davidsson one goal each. Thanks to group 85 för being officials. UNBOTTLED AT LAST! In Mondays away-game against Svanhöjden s renowned we lost all our inhibitions and Won the match by 7-2 (the numbers in our favour). The goals were scored by Martin Samuelsson 2 goals, Jonas Persson, Pierre Westerlund, Peter Davidsson, Mikael Tunander And Johan Mellgren 1 each. NEW GOALKEEPER Last Tuesday was Carl s 7 th birthday. Conny Karlsson s son can now be coached in Th goalkeeping game. Congratulations Carl! JÄRNBROTTS WANTS After Easter (preliminary date 15th April) all leaders, coaches, players and members will be invited to a discussion about the goals and purposes of our club. The Swedish Ice Hockey Association has produced a study material called ICE HOCKEY WANTS, which could perhaps be a basic material for us. How the work is to be organized depends on how many want to take part in the shapingof the clubs future. A summery must be ready by th end of May, before the annual general meeting so that changes in the regulations can be proposed and approved. 5 OFFSIDE NEWS 20 ENGLISH THURSDAY 12 FEBRUARY SIGNED HÅKAN GUSTAFSSON JÄRNBROTTS DAY SATURDAY 28TH FEBRUARY At Frölundaborg, between 8.30 a.m and 4 p.m there will be activiteies such as the sale of coffee and hot dogs etc., a raffle with good prizes, access to Internet where we can look at the club s home pages, an open-air walking quiz at Frölundaborg (1st prize - a 20 Colour TV), the first showing of the club s new logotype, ice-hockey tournement with teams made up of a mixture of all our players and the chance of meeting other players, leaders and parents who are active within our club. In OFFSIDE news 21 we will present the whole programme. There s more to come... We will be informing about the situation etc. There will be opportunities for questions and so forth. It is very important that as many paraents as possible come to the meeting.. Leaders Group 85 COACHES MEETING On Monday the 9th of February we held a coaches meeting where Håkan presented hockey excercises which can be used at different levels of attainment (shared ice with two groups). The practise group was group 86 (their time). GÖTEBORGS ICE HOCKEY ASSOCIATION PRESENTS LEADERS

6 On Thursday the 5th of February, four members from Järnbrott participated when the association presented the leaders who are to follow age group 85 from Autumn 1998 to the TV-Cup The leaders are Göran Pegenius, Anders Carlsson and Lars Dahlqvist. They emphasize that technique training is important and they demand that one manages the silver medal. SORTI The Senoirs finished the seasons Div.4 games with 1-7 against Rönnäng at Frölundaborg on Tuesday the 17th of February. The consolation goal was scored by Niklas Gottrup. MARCH-CUP Group 85 will be going to Alingsås on Sunday the 8th of March for two games against Sörhaga/Alingsås (GP-puck winners) and Gislaved.

TRY TO CHANGE THE SERIES SYSTEM We have submitted a proposal to Göteborg s Ice Hockey Association to change the series system. Our motivations are as follows: youth series are played at weekends. a maximum of one match per week is played the series play max. 10 matches reduction of game changes to be able to train Dare to lose (All teams reach the finals) and let more play in the games. let U15 continue with year round games possibly with 3 U16 players increase sense of community between leaders and clubs (series meetings) make room for tournements - our own or others without having to move matches. reduce costs for the club and players parents give hockey people the possibility of a better social life OFFSIDE will revert on Wednesday the 25th of February at the Youth Leader Meeting on how the proposal was received by the district society. AFTER 17 DAYS Intermission the Elite Series starts again on Thursday the 26th of February with Frölunda against Malmö. WORLDS BEST at hockey are The Czech Republic after Svoboda s winning goal 8 minutes into the 3rd period against Russia on Sunday the 22nd of February 1998.

The Hockey School played at Tvären (36 of them) and the remainder were divided into six mixed teams who played three matches each. A computer was in the club room with Internet connected to our home page during the whole day. The first page showed our new logotype. The air-walk competition was won by Filip Forser (85) who took home a 20 inch TV. The number of peas in the tie-breaking question was 745. The attendance prizes (CD-players) were won by Sebastian Wåhleman (The Hockey School), Daniel Söderström (Seniors), Johnny Nilsson (84), Jonas Bernander (85), Viktor Karmebäck (86), Johan Norberg (87), Henrik Melkersson (88) and Alexander Roos (89). Team 88 received a Yellow and black commemoration cap for the GP-puck prize The Winning Team. Our thanks to the organizer Conny Karlsson and everybody that worked with sales, the officials etc who made Järnbrotts Day a success. REPORT FROM THE YOUTH LEADER MEETING On Wednesday the 25th of February, Conny and yours truely, participated in the ice hockey associations meeting about youth hockey. Seven clubs participated and six were missing. The meeting lively discussed the GP-puck and the series system. The clubs took our proposal away with them to present and discuss it in their clubs. Järnbrott Hockey Club will be hosts for the next meeting (before Easter). The club Lerum was host in their clubhouse. The leaders was agree to play poolplay also next year for born S WON THE KORTEDALA CUP Last Saturday 7 th of March was our 88 s invitation to The club GIK and their Cup in Isdala. The Cup was as a league. After five matches vi was the Winning team. Congratulation! 85 S DEFEAT THE GP-PUCKWINNER SÖRHAGA Last Sunday 8 th of March we was invitation for two games in Alingsås. We begin to play with Sörhaga and won with 5-2 over the GP-puck Winner and directly we played towards the Gislaved (from Småland ). They defeat us with 3-7. 10 OFFSIDE NEWS 25 ENGLISH MONDAY 16TH OF MARCH SIGNED HÅKAN GUSTAFSSON BORN 84 TO SEMIFINAL AGAINST HISINGEN After two days hockeyplaying we meet Hisingen in a hard semifinal. The match was decide when it only was 43 seconds left. To the tournaments ALL STAR TEAM was two boys from our team selection. It was the back Sebastian Salomonsson och the center Andreas Taube. In the match about the third place Partille was to good. BORN 86 WON THREE MATCHES IN LYSEKIL The Saturday 14th of March was a lucky day for our born 86. They begin with a winning over Kristinehamn 4-0, follow with Säffle 5-3 and finished with Dalen 3-0. The Sunday 15th of March Trelleborg was too good In the match of the third place Dalen was also to good. Our center Niklas Berntsson was selection in the ALL STAR Team.
