6 Quality Matters Recognition Quality Matters (QM) is a nationally recognized, facultycentered, peer review process designed to certify the quality of online courses and online components. Colleges and Universities across the country use the tools in developing, maintaining and reviewing their online courses and in training their faculty.

7 Quality Matters Recognition 2008 Anatomy and Physiology I First Science Course and One of the First Courses at Ocean County College to Receive QM Recognition. Currently, Many of Our DL Courses are QM Recognized, including 5 Science Courses.

8 Expanding the Curriculum Offering Online Degrees: The Development of DL Science Courses Combined with DL Courses in Other Schools Allowed for The Expansion to an Online Associate Degree in General. Studies with a Concentration in Science, which was piloted in 2008

9 Expanding the Curriculum As of Spring 2011, Ocean County College has the Following Degrees Offered Completely Online: Computer Science General Studies Business Homeland Security Criminology With This Relatively Rapid Expansion of Course and Degree Offerings, Several Issues Have Emerged that Need to be Addressed

10 Issues Of Concern: A New Paradigm Expanding Student Population and Demographic Increased Faculty Load LMS Limitations Course Quality and Consistency

11 Expanding Student Demographic As of January 2011, there are 1845 in state, 122 out-of-state and 3 out-of-country unique DL students registered for the Spring 2011 semester. Students in the US Armed Services stationed in foreign countries are registered from their home state. Total credits are 9558 for all DL and 588 for out-of-state and 27 credits for out-of-country. We have many students serving in the armed forces overseas registered for our courses.

16 Course Consistency Soft Chalk and WIMBA Lessons can be Idiosyncratic to the Instructor Teaching a Course With Multiple Sections, Pedagogical Consistency and Assessment Validity Can Not Be Verified And, if Entire Degree Programs are to Be Offered Online, the Integrity of These Programs May Be Jeopardized.
