Berlin can fill you with wonder, contemplating the future in the crystalline Reichstag and high-rise Potsdamer Platz, and with emotion, revisiting the past at the Jewish Museum and remnants of the Berlin Wall. The nostalgic, the party lover, the trendsetter, today s Berlin is one city, many characters - different every time you look but never looked at indifferently. Eight times the size of Paris, Berlin does not lack for things to do. This reunited city s treasures include Norman Foster s panoramic glass-domed Reichstag (German Parliament), the historic Brandenburg Gate and UNESCO-listed Museum Island s galleries, where Egypt s Queen Nefertiti hides. Trace Berlin s turbulent past at the Libeskind-designed Jewish Museum and walk the artiest stretch of Wall at the East Side Gallery. 5 KRAKOW WARSAW Post-Trip June 24-27, 2015 Post-Trip June 27-30, 2015 Home of Polish kings and queens for half of a millennium, Krakow is Poland s former capital and oldest university town set in a broad valley on the banks of the Vistula River. It was the only major Polish city to emerge from WWII without being reduced to rubble. The city s rich history blends flawlessly with the present, allowing its legends and traditions to carry on. Architecturally, it can easily match any European city arch for arch, monument for monument and gargoyle for gargoyle. The city s elegant Old Town, with its soaring Gothic churches and gargantuan Main Market Square, has been placed on the UNESCO list of World Historic Sites. Today, with its freedom from Communism and entry into the EU, it has gradually rebuilt its reputation as one of Europe s emerging major cities. It is divided by the Vistula River and is a city with many faces where tradition intermingles with modernity. During Communist times, the magic of Chopin kept the people of Poland united and inspired and his spirit still lives on now throughout the city. From the terrace on Zamkowy Square, where the Royal Castle and St. Anne s Church are located, is a view of the new Świȩtokrzyski Bridge. The dominating silhouette of the city center belongs to the Palace of Culture and Science, which today shares the city skyline with numerous towers.
