2 VPS (VIRTUAL PRIVATE SERVER) Virtual Private Server (VPS) is 24 hours online server that can be used for various purposes. One important function of VPS in forex trading is to prevent things that may disturb Expert Advisor (EA / Robot) from running nonstop such as bad internet connection, power outage, computer problems, and others VPS allows you to access your trading platform from anywhere (using the Remote Desktop Connection / RDC), either from a local PC or PDA when you're traveling abroad, outside the city, etc. With the help of VPS, a trader does not need to turn on the computer and connected to the internet for long hours. Simply activate the Expert Advisor through VPS, then disconnect, the VPS will remain online for 24 hours nonstop. Only when needed, for example when you want to monitor your positions, then the trader can connect to the internet. 2

4 To trade forex with VPS, choosing EZ Package would be enough. EZ package has few plans : The cheapest EZ plan is Lite plan. Lite plan is enough for trading, however the hard drive capacity (space) is very limited. In case you want to install more than 4 or 5 Metatraders, we recommend you to subscribe for higher plan. 6 At the next step, you must fill in registration form correctly and completely. Field with asterisk mark(*) MUST BE FILLED. address used must be active and not full! Make sure you do not input the wrong (for yahoo users). Example : yahoo.com is not the same as yahoo.com.sg. Password is a combination between capital letters, small letters, and or numeric! Phone number can be preceded by country code and area code Please fill VAT field with 0. (for non us residents) 6

7 To double check total order you intend to subscibe, please check Shopping Cart. You will notice the option to subscribe 1 month or 3 months respectively (cheaper). 7

8 At the left figure, there is an example to fill in credit card payment information. You must type in credit card owner information! In case credit card billing address is different with registered address, select New Billing Address. CVV or CVC2 field can be filled with number located on your credit card and is generally three or four digit long. Please see the example on the next page To pay VPS with paypal, you do not need to fill in Credit Card information above, please click here to pay with Paypal 8

9 If your credit card has CVV or CVC2 code, please fill in the field described above. Otherwise, please tick Code is not on card on Payment page above. 9

10 3. Right after you have registered correctly, VPS Land will send a couple of s containing Password filled during registration, address information, billing amount, and so on. (Make sure you have checked spam/bulk/junk folder if you could not find the s in inbox! Suppose you do not find any s within 2x24 hours, please contact VPS customer support, for example [email protected]) In few hours, an with important informations and login details will be sent to your mailbox, this contains IP address, Hostname, Customer ID, Plan, Member Area Url, etc. (example : Subject : VPSLand.com Lite VPS 32 bit server information ) Example of content : REMOTE DESKTOP INFORMATION: =================== IP Address: => VPS IP to login from Remote Desktop Connection Login name: administrator => Login name Password: password entered during signup => Password to login to member area is password used during registration CUSTOMER PORTAL INFORMATION (HSPComplete): ========================================= URL: => Login to member section, to upgrade VPS rent subscription and VPS plan, to check capacity / bandwidth usage, to manage domain and server. 11 REMOTE DESKTOP CONNECTION (RDC) Remote Desktop Connection is a Windows feature to access and control other computer remotely using internet / LAN connection. 12 RDC SETTING in WINDOWS XP Soon after you have got your own IP address by from VPS customer support, in Windows Start Menu, click START => PROGRAMS => ACCESSORIES => REMOTE DESKTOP CONNECTION 12

13 Click Options. Fill your IP address to Computer field and Login name to User Name field Username is administrator (for VPS Land). Password is the password you filled during registration process (Note : If you could not find this informations, please check the sent by VPS service for IP address, Username, and Password) To save IP address, username, and password information, please tick Allow me to save credentials box 13

14 IMPORTANT : When you find Remote Desktop Connection Menu appearance is not the same as the left figure, always check for the latest windows update : Click START => SETTINGS => CONTROL PANEL => AUTOMATIC UPDATES Click on Display Tab, set Colors to 256 Color to save bandwidth (for slow internet connections) Click Local Resources Tab, tick on Clipboard, then click More. 14

15 Tick on all available Drives At Experience Tab, set connection Speed to Modem (28.8 Kbps) unless you have a very stable and high speed broadband internet connection To find the best connection setting, please try to connect to VPS server. If you feel that the connection is too slow, please use slower Modem Option. 15

16 VPS Windows Local Windows Click Connect to connect to your VPS server. After you have sucessfully connected to VPS, a windows display will appear (covering your local computer s windows display) Restore down VPS main window to reduce FULL SCREEN window by clicking square sign at pop up yellow menu located at upper middle of VPS window (please mouse over at upper side of window to show the yellow menu). This will separate both windows VPS Windows 2003 appearance is almost the same as Windows XP you use. To easily locate VPS window, you will notice green information message at upper right side of VPS (example : Container 1234). At the upper left side of VPS windows, you will find your IP address. 16

17 To disconnect from VPS, please click x (close) on the VPS main window Right after clicking X (close), a confirmation window will appear Click OK to disconnect from VPS. IMPORTANT : Do not SHUT DOWN VPS windows to disconnect connection with the VPS! To disconnect from VPS, you only need to click x (close) in VPS windows. 17

18 VPS SUBSCRIPTION UPGRADE Login to MEMBER AREA at Login with the and password used during VPS registration In case password is forgotten, please check VPS Land s sent at VPS registration or click on After successfully logged in, click My Account menu at the upper side of the member area. Click Subsciptions 18

19 At Subscriptions page you will see table like the example above. Click on the ID number 19

20 Generate Renewal Order is to upgrade VPS subscription period manually. After clicking Generate Renewal Order, an order form will appear. Click on Pay this document to pay the order. Prior to paying the the order, you should double check the order details. If there is mistake or you want to cancel upgrade, please click Cancel document. Upgrade Center contains menu to change VPS plans (example from 1 month to 3 months), hard drive capacity upgrade, add additional memory, change DNS, IP address, domain, etc. 20

21 Renewal Settings is VPS subscription renewal setting VPS renewal order period To upgrade VPS subsciption manually To upgrade VPS subsciption automatically by debitting your credit card on due date (SAFE!) Generate renewal order automatically, but you have to pay manually We recommend you to select Generate renewal orders automatically if you are trading with Expert Advisors to avoid big loss / Margin Call due to VPS expiration as Expert Advisor will be disabled immediately. NOTE : VPS will be switched off when you do not or forgotten to renew VPS subscriptions. This is very dangerous if you are running Expert Advisors. EA will not work after VPS expiration date. 21

22 SETTING METATRADER AT WINDOWS START UP Sometimes VPS service may suffer technical problem / hang. Usually VPS support will restart VPS to fix this. One useful trick to prevent loss due to restarting VPS is to use Windows Start Up menu. While VPS is restarting, programs which are included in Start Up list will be executed after restart process is finished. This will help trader to minimize the risk. To include MetaTrader in Start Up Program list : Click Start => Programs => Highlight MetaTrader software, click right mouse button, then click Copy. Put your mouse cursor to the middle of desktop window. Click right mouse button, Paste to Desktop 22

23 Open Windows Explorer by clicking on Start => Programs => Accessories => Windows Explorer In Windows Explorer, go to folder c:\document and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup. Copy or cut MetaTrader ShortCut from Desktop to Startup folder displayed on above figure. 23

24 IMPORTANT TIPS : 1. After receiving VPS IP address, and login details, you need request for setting VPS node to 1 (one) node by sending an to [email protected] before using VPS service. This is VERY IMPORTANT and must be done after your VPS account has been approved. Setting remote node to one, will prevent double login error while you are trying to login to VPS and get disconnected due to bad connection. Reconnecting to server after improper disconnect usually will cause double login. If you run Expert Advisor, double login error will be very dangerous as two same EA will run at the same time and this will cause chaotic system. 2. When the VPS has successfully been set to remote node 1 (usually requires VPS restart), the customer support will send notification. If you do not get such confirmation please confirm this to the customer support. 3. It is highly recommended to adjust VPS server time to your local time by clicking : Start => Settings => Control Panel => Date and Time 4. Eventhough your computer is not connected to VPS server. VPS server and your Expert Advisor will remain in ON state and will be run for 24 hours non stop as long as there is no error (VPS Land guarantees 99% server uptime). We emphasize : Do not to SHUT DOWN VPS to disconnect from VPS! 24

25 5. To install MetaTrader software, you can download it from browsers such as Internet Explorer / Firefox VPS which are already available in VPS. Please visit your forex broker s website to download, save, then install it in VPS hard drive as usual. 6.
