3 ENGINEERING ONLINE SPRING 2013 GRADUATE COURSE CATALOG MESSAGE from the DIRECTOR North Carolina State University is celebrating its 125th year as a land-grant institution established to meet the educational needs of the citizens of North Carolina. Since 1978, the College of Engineering has taken distance courses not only to the citizens of North Carolina but also to individuals throughout the US. During the last two years, students in all 50 states and 20 other countries participated in at least one online class. We have expanded the graduate degree offerings from one to now 14 online degree programs and have expanded the offerings of the Computer Programming Certificate. Two four-year degree programs are now available outside of the main campus in Raleigh to residents in the eastern and western parts of the state. A BSE in Mechatronics is available in Asheville while students in the Havelock area can earn a BSE in Mechanical Engineering Systems. The College of Engineering s distance education programs are for those of you who, because of work, family or geographical constraints, cannot come to our campus in Raleigh but still have the desire and interest in completing a master s degree in engineering or computer science. It is for you that the Engineering Online program has grown in the number of course offerings and in the number of faculty teaching the online classes. Our goal is to provide you with the best learning experience and service we can, and we wish you much success as you continue to complete a course, certificate or an entire degree program at a distance. If you have never taken an online course through our distance education program, please do not hesitate to contact me for more information about how you can join more than 1,200 students in the Engineering Online experience. 4 REGISTRATION REQUIREMENT Your request to be registered in an EOL class may not be approved if you do not meet the following criteria or have not completed the following requirements: 1. You must have completed a BS degree in engineering, computer science or related area from an accredited four-year institution. Individuals who are employed full-time are limited to enrollment in two graduate classes. EOL ACADEMIC CALENDAR SPRING 2013 Note: The Engineering Online (EOL) calendar follows closely the on-campus schedule; however, some dates are different because of the nature of the distance education program. Please refer to these dates to ensure that you have not missed the distance education deadlines. Students cannot register for online courses in engineering or computer science through the MyPack on-campus registration system. All requests for course registration for EOL courses must be completed through the EOL registration site at EngineeringOnline.ncsu.edu. October 22 - November 19 December 6 December 17 EOL Enrollment Period The EOL registration site will open on Monday, October 22. Graduate students admitted to degree programs will be registered first. Non-degree students (NDS) registration will not be completed until the official schedule for NDS is open. Tuition and Fees Due This is the last day EOL will accept registration requests for new students and returning students who have not taken a class in the fall semester. 2. Individuals employed full-time will not be approved to take more than six hours of graduate credit in one semester. 3. On-campus students must have permission from the Director of their Graduate Programs (DGP) or advisors with an sent from the DGP or advisor to Dr. Linda Krute. 4. Students who have never been enrolled in an EOL class must submit an unofficial transcript to document the taking of prerequisites and appropriate engineering or computer science background for the course(s). 5. All financial holds on a student s account must be removed. 6. Foreign nationals must receive clearance each semester from the Office of International Scholar and Student Services (OISSS) before they are eligible to be enrolled in classes. This policy does NOT apply to individuals who are permanent residents of the US and who have a valid Green Card. Non-degree international students must submit a form every semester that they wish to be enrolled in classes at North Carolina State University. 7. Students who will remain outside of the US during the semester must complete the international clearance form at ncsu.edu/forms/international_clearance_form.pdf. 8. Students who fail to pay their tuition and fees on time will not be registered. If you are dropped by the Cashier s Office for non-payment and want to be re-enrolled, you must contact the EOL office after you have paid the tuition and fees.
