43 Appendix 1: Triumvirate model What is a Triumvirate model? A triumvirate model includes a clinical lead (Medical / Clinical Director or similar), a management lead (General / Operational Manager or similar) and a nurse lead (Head of / Senior Nurse or similar). These three key roles work in partnership within the triumvirate model. Clinical Lead How does a Triumvirate model work? All three roles within a triumvirate operate at the equivalent organisational tier in order to support the principle of a partnership of equals. However, in terms of general line management the accountabilities must be through one individual and that is the clinical lead (i.e. Assistant Medical Director at al level or the Clinical Director at Directorate level). Professional accountabilities within the s and Directorates will however be through the relevant Executive Director. Management Lead TRIUMVIRATE Nurse Lead Why use a Triumvirate model? As an organisation we recognise the pivotal role of clinical leadership which the triumvirate model supports. 43
