6 The EGP helped me to discover my strengths, weaknesses and passions. The EGP gives you the opportunity of getting to know different areas of the energy business over 2 years, helping you to discover your strengths, weaknesses and passions. The most attractive factor for me was the international placement. I worked in a very small team in Istanbul, setting up the expansion of the company into Turkey. The EGP is flexible, allowing you to choose different positions, and to tailor the program around your interests. Thanks to the EGP, I today have a great network of former graduates and colleagues on whose expertise and knowledge I can count at all times. Yasmin Ali Engineering So, how was it? Testimonials on the E.ON Graduate Program The international focus of my EGP gave me the opportunity of working as HR manager for five months in Sweden at EC&R Northern Europe. All in all, I got to know four different E.ON units within the space of 18 months, while working in different teams with a variety of specialist focuses. Due to the variety of challenges, I was able to work out various different solutions in a team as well as individually. I was always able to count on the help of my superiors, colleagues and other graduates. Many of them are today very close friends. This network prepared me very well for my career at E.ON. After beginning in the HR department in Germany, I was eventually able to take on a technical job in Sweden after completing my EGP. Many former graduates have become close friends. Franziska Petersdorff Human Resources

7 My EGP gave me the opportunity of getting to know the company and the energy business from a variety of different angles. I even had the chance of working in fields that were outside of my core areas of competence. And not to forget: The EGP was a great way of building up a wide network of many exceptional, inspiring people, spanning the entire Group. This network helps me to overcome many hurdles and to drive on all manner of projects today. The wide range of experiences I made during my EGP enables me to see things from many different perspectives, which allows me to work more effectively and efficiently across various units. The EGP opened up many new perspectives to me. Nico Köllner Finance I started my EGP in Romania, where I was able to see at first hand exactly how decisions are made, problems are solved and strategies compiled. I was then given a placement in Sweden, which was a great experience! I was provided many perspectives I would otherwise have never experienced. During the months I managed to create a network of contacts and special acquaintances, which is a great asset to me today for my work as an engineer with project management responsibilities. I can certainly say that the EGP was an exciting journey and possibly one of the most valuable times of my life. One of the most valuable times of my life. Diversity is truly lived by in the EGP. I particularly liked the wide variety of different fields I could work in. I was able to conduct projects independently from a very early stage. I was given the opportunity to gain real life insights into many processes in the energy business and supported from a theoretical point of view through various specialised workshops. These still provide me with valuable skills today! Furthermore, the knowledge gained in different units enables me to understand their specific traits and thus makes it easier to create strategic concepts and conduct projects across various units in my current position. The EGP is defined by true diversity. Ruben Chetan Engineering Daniela Kaiser Human Resources

8 Working at E.ON When you start working for us, you will begin working in a professional world that is defined by its great variety. We deliberately place a great emphasis on our employees variety of skills, experiences and perspectives. And on mixed teams which complement each other and in which each individual can emphasize his or her individual abilities. That particular diversity is our greatest asset. Working for us can take many shapes and sizes! On the following pages let us present to you the variety of different fields of activity.

9 Engineers Limited resources, climate change, energy turnaround the energy business is today more than ever required to develop innovative solutions and technologies. This great challenge opens up a lot of leeway and extensive fields of activity for technological pioneers. Commercial Beyond our technologically dominated core business, we are looking for people who can think strategically and act in a customerfocused way. In interdisciplinary teams full of energy for a successful business. IT specialists It is the same whether doing simulations of research projects, the calculation of oil and gas storage facilities, and power station management: without IT, nothing goes in today s energy business. Which is why demand for specialists is accordingly high.

Engineers

12 Fields of activity for engineers New Build & Technology We are not only actively designing the future of energy we are also building it Increasing energy demands can only be covered if the appropriate facilities and power stations are installed around the world. In our global unit New Build & Technology we support the operation of existing facilities and construction of new facilities. And we drive on innovative energy concepts for the E.ON Group with comprehensive know-how and a first-class team. Engineers implement large international projects within predefined targets in terms of time, cost and quality or develop innovative concepts for the transformation and storage of renewable energies. All of that in close contact with customers and experts and as part of a well-coordinated team. Generation Support our core business Engineers at E.ON almost have complete freedom of choice as to which technologies they wish to support with their know-how and passion. We are one of the largest European operators of steam power stations: We operate 35 plants with 81 units and an overall capacity of roughly 27 GW in eight countries. We operate combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plants in ten countries and are responsible for 69 units in 40 facilities with an overall capacity of roughly 18 GW. We are experienced operators of hydro-electric power stations with more than 212 facilities and roughly 1200 employees in Europe. We are also one of the world s leaders in the operation of safe nuclear power plants currently with nine reactor blocks at six locations around the world and minority interest at a further twelve blocks in Germany and Sweden. But it is exactly that kind of energy mix that makes safe energy, that is affordable in the long-run, possible.

13 Renewables Play a vital part in the new world of energy We develop, build and operate onshore and offshore wind farms, photovoltaic ground facilities as well as solar-thermic and biomass power stations. We have invested more than 7 billion Euros in this area over the past five years and thus created a new core business area within only a few years. Today, we are one of the global leaders in the industry, which is documented by the fact that we received the Platts Global Energy Award 2011 in the category Green Energy Producer of the Year by the consultancy firm Platts. We also plan to develop our market position further through respective investments in renewable energies in the coming five years and will therefore have corresponding demand for engineers experienced in project management. Exploration & Production Discover energy for the future Discovering oil and gas in place is one thing. But recovering them is something completely different. It requires sophisticated drilling concepts and programs. And a well-coordinated team. E.ON Exploration & Production employs more than 200 dedicated staff with ample professional experience: 20 different nationalities, an average of 16 years work experience, more than 90 percent with industry experience. Given the new challenges we face on a regular basis, we, as a company, have to keep our finger on the pulse of the times with cutting-edge expert know-how. Our ambitious growth targets give our employees excellent opportunities to develop both personally as well as professionally. E.ON Exploration & Production combines international strength with local competence and technical know-how, and thus provides exciting employment opportunities in the energy sector. Energy Distribution Bring energy to our customers Bringing energy exactly to where end customers need it that is one of the most important tasks of today and tomorrow. Because the electricity grid is one of the most important building blocks in the energy turnaround. An exciting and trendsetting issue! Our engineers concern themselves with planning, construction, servicing and operation power grids. They take on a wide range of responsibilities, such as the preparation of concepts concerning grid planning and system development in order to ensure secure energy supply in the future too.

14 IT specialists

15

16 Fields of activity for IT specialists IT consultants Sophisticated consulting in large energy projects Our consultants work for the entire Group and are drawn upon wherever needed. They provide consultation, project support and application support for SAP CRM and SAP IS-U, work in innovation, implementation and optimization of projects, support companies and departments in creating technical as well as IT concepts, and support the technical implementation of IT requirements. Not as lone fighters, but in a team. Whoever wants to join our team as an IT consultant will know to impress through flexibility and willingness to travel, as well as customer and service orientation.

17 IT architects We are looking for constructors of our IT world Our IT architects are not only there to ensure reliable processes and procedures by reviewing concepts, architectures and development processes. As software experts they also set the course for our future as team leaders in software development projects, as technical consultants or with individual software developments. What all of them have in common are very good conceptual and analytical skills, a consistent customer and service oriented approach, and a sense of fun working in teams. IT project managers Become a part of the energy management Whether in simulations, in research and development, for calculation of oil and gas storage facilities, or the management of an entire power plant: IT is involved in pretty much all projects today. And that requires appropriate project managers. Our IT project managers conduct business and requirement analyses for the development of optimal IT solutions, take care of IT outsourcing management in cooperation with other service providers, and take on end-to-end responsibility for IT solutions. In addition to distinct customer orientation and analytical abilities, they are also real team players.

20 Commercial business areas Finances & Procurement Reaching goals and achieving results Controlling at one of the world s largest private electricity and gas suppliers is more than dealing with mere costs, calculations and key figures: it also involves exciting and multifaceted tasks in all areas of the company that require not only control but also excellent procurement talent. In the area of Group reporting, for example, you will be responsible for internal reporting or plan balance sheets, investments and key performance indicators of the various E.ON companies as a participation controller. In the area of procurement you might have to deal with the purchasing of facilities for energy generation. All coordinated with a variety of different colleagues even from other Group subsidiaries with whom you constantly exchange information. Marketing & Sales We are looking for people who have something to say Creativity and communication skills paired with strategic thinking are absolutely essential in a global electricity and gas company. The area of Marketing & Sales is concerned with the marketing of energy and the strengthening of the E.ON brand from the development of international marketing strategies via planning of advertising campaigns to performance review. That also includes assessing customer and market requirements, tracking market developments, specifying customer desires as well as the active promotion of our brand.

21 Trade Trade around the world At E.ON Global Commodities we trade electricity, gas, coal, oil and emission certificates across European borders. Our trading activities play an important role in order to guarantee fair prices and to secure the long-term supply for millions of customers throughout Europe. At E.ON Global Commodities you will become a member of a team of highly skilled professionals from more than 45 countries at our headquarters in Düsseldorf. This is from where our experts work across borders, cultures and languages at E.ON s commodity price risk management and in the process optimize our electricity and gas resources within and outside of Europe. Working in a highly productive culture, our employees exchange ideas and market know-how, and have the burning ambition to achieve the best possible outcomes. Human Resources This is where your understanding of human nature is required We will only be able to achieve our goal of improving the world of energy and making it cleaner with the right dedicated employees. As a service provider for our employees, the human resources department is of fundamental importance to our Group. Because only satisfied employees can be held in the long run! That is why we place a great emphasis on outgoing employees in the area of human resources. It makes no difference whether you are conducting reviews or job interviews, representing our company at university fairs, taking care of staff or developing their further education programs: Your social skills in dealing with people should always be in the main focus. Business Development Wanted: people with a vision Hardly any other market is as exciting, active and challenging as the energy market. In the area of strategy we are looking for answers to all the questions that affect our future: How can and will the company develop? Which strategy makes the most sense? Which markets should be addressed? Our strategists create well-founded analyses for the acquisition of other companies or on our future positioning on the electricity and gas market wide awake and with a vision. If you also wish to take part in defining our future, then this is the right field of activity for you. Inhouse Consulting Consulting and trailblazing for an entire Group E.ON Inhouse Consulting (ECON) supports the E.ON Group in successfully dealing with the complex challenges in the energy business. Similarly to an external consulting firm, ECON calls the usual ways of thinking into question, addresses critical issues and changes accustomed structures, where necessary. One of the essential cornerstones of the service are strategy questions, innovation and growth issues, the setup of new business fields as well as the optimization of operative processes in power generation. Further central areas of work include function-focused projects such as finance and purchasing.

22 Our offer E.ON is one of the world s largest private electricity and gas companies and consists of global and regional units and a host of opportunities. We intend to make the world of energy better and cleaner wherever we are active. On the following pages let us introduce you to a selection of E.ON units that you could get to know within the framework of the EGP. We are looking forward to seeing you!

23 Our structure E.ON is one of the world s largest private electricity and gas companies. The Group is managed from the headquarters in Düsseldorf. We carry out our business operations in the merging markets of Europe and increasingly in other regions of the world outside of Europe through five global units: Exploration & Production, Generation, New Build & Technology, Optimization & Trade and Renewable Energies. The aim: to create synergies and bundle know-how. Our operative business in Europe is carried out by eleven regional units. They are responsible for the customer-oriented sales business, the regional infrastructure and de-centralized production. At the same time they are also important partners of the global units in their respective countries and the sole contact partners for all relevant interest groups for example in politics, at authorities, associations and the media. Add to that Russia, as a so-called focal region. Here the electricity generation business is in the main focus, which was not bound into the global generation unit due to its geographic location and lacking integration into the European grid. With E.ON International Energy we wish to push ahead the creation of renewable and conventional electricity generation capacities together with local partners in attractive regions outside of Europe. IT, sales, insurance, consultation and commercial control systems provide valuable support for our core business all over the world and are therefore organized according to their respective function. Here too, the aim is to achieve synergies and to profit from expert know-how, which is available across borders within our Group.

24 Group Management Managing E.ON s business around the world E.ON is a global provider of specialized energy solutions. The main task of Group Management in Düsseldorf is to oversee and coordinate this business. Its tasks include charting E.ON s strategic course and providing guidance for the global and regional units. It also secures financing, manages risk, and continually optimizes the Group s business portfolio.

25 Global Unit Climate & Renewables Generating tomorrow s energy today E.ON Climate & Renewables is headquartered in Essen and responsible for the E.ON Group s global activities in industrial-scale renewables. As a result, we are dedicated to sustainably increasing the share of renewable generation as part of the E.ON Group s portfolio. E.ON Climate & Renewables plays a leading role in the development of the renewable industry worldwide and has already invested 8 billion Euros in renewable generation projects in the last five years. E.ON currently operates over 9 GW of renewable capacity and plans further multi-billion euro investments to grow its installed capacity. Today, E.ON is already active in generating energy from onshore and offshore wind, biomass, photovoltaic, and con centrated solar power (CSP). In 2011 E.ON Climate & Renewables received the Platts Global Energy Award in the category Green Energy Generator of the Year.

26 Global Unit Generation Generating power through various sources throughout Europe Our global unit Generation oversees and coordinates the operations of our generation portfolio in Europe. It groups our power plants into four fleets by fuel type and manages these fleets across national boundaries. This functional setup significantly enhances our ability to share best practices, increase efficiency, and reduce costs. Our generation fleet is one of the biggest in Europe. We have major asset positions in Germany, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy, Spain, France, and the Benelux countries. We also have one of the broadest and most balanced fuel mixes in the industry, and our production portfolio is one of the most evenly weighted in the industry.

27 Global Unit Exploration & Production Ensuring energy supply today and tomorrow E.ON Exploration & Production (E&P) is a global unit and one of the growth segments in the E.ON Group. Responsible for oil and gas exploration and production activities, this global unit makes an important contribution towards developing new resources to secure long-term energy supply as well as the Groups financial results. E.ON E&P purchases stakes in oil and gas fields or acquires exploration and production licences throughout the world, and is well positioned in international markets. We launched our upstream business activities in 2003 with an equity interest in the UK Central North Sea. Today we hold 30 licences in the UK, with our local subsidiary directly acting as the operator for roughly one third of these licences. In Norway, E.ON E&P has equity interests in some 30 licences in the Norwegian Sea and North Sea and is the operator for eight of these exploration licences. We explore and develop resources in our three target regions: the North Sea, Russia and North Africa. Our largest production asset is Yuzhno Russkoye.

28 Global Unit Global Commodities Creating and maximizing the value of E.ON s power and gas assets E.ON Global Commodities is the energy trading business of E.ON. As the expert interface between the E.ON Group and international wholesale energy markets, we create value by managing the commodity price risks faced by E.ON and its customers, while optimizing the Group s broad and diverse power and gas portfolio. We manage a complex product mix and exposure profile across the entire commodity space. Consequently, we re active at energy exchanges throughout Europe and in the US as well as in OTC markets, trading a wide range of standard and exotic products and leveraging our deep industry knowledge to bring innovative and tailored solutions to our internal and external clients.

29 Global Unit New Build & Technology At the cutting edge of development E.ON New Build & Technology is a dynamic and innovative company which unites excellence in project management, project delivery and engineering to provide best-in-class services and competitive advantages for the business. We are a customer-oriented service provider who fulfils expectations, supporting a broad geographic footprint of current and future plants. E.ON New Build & Technology brings together sophisticated competencies in project management and engineering to help support the construction of energy plants and the operation of existing power plants across all areas in which E.ON is active. In addition, E.ON New Build & Technology combines group-wide Research & Development activities, and makes a significant contribution to the development of a portfolio of new technologies aimed at a low CO 2 future.

30 International Energy Working in an international environment At E.ON we have demonstrated our extensive experience and expertise in energy in recent decades. However, many of our home markets are now stagnant or even contracting. That is why E.ON has to go where the growth potential is: in markets such as Brazil and Turkey. E.ON International Energy (EIE) is the subsidiary that focuses on our international expansion around the globe. At EIE graduates are initially based in our Düsseldorf office. Engineering graduates have the opportunity to learn about the entire energy value chain via the development of both thermal and renewable projects, while commercial graduates will be involved in business development and strategy, which includes the analysis of new markets and business opportunities in international energy markets. Graduates may also have the opportunity to spend time in our joint venture organizations (based in Brazil and Turkey) to develop practical skills in both project management and asset operations. EIE gives you the opportunity of working on the future of energy in a truly international environment.

31 Connecting Energies Providing comprehensive distributed energy solutions around the world E.ON Connecting Energies (ECT) is a new unit which started its operations in July ECT s mandate is to establish a meaningful global presence for E.ON Group in the rapidly growing market for distributed energy services and solutions. As an integrator, ECT provides complete solutions to customers, by combining on-site energy generation, energy efficiency and energy management, as well as demand response management solutions.
