6 While dealership employees may be allowed to repossess directly, if the dealership contracts for repossession it must use a bonded repossession service. Attempting to reclaim property could result in volatile and sometimes dangerous situations, and utilizing a third party experienced in these situations could avoid adverse consequences. Colorado s Uniform Commercial Code states that a dealer shall only contract with a bonded repossession service for any repossessions. Colorado law goes on to provide that use of an unbonded repossession service creates an agency relationship between the repossessor and the dealer.
