3 THE GRAND STEEPLE CHASE DE PARIS The most spectacular race at Auteuil The Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris takes place annually on the second to last Sunday in May and is classed as the most spectacular and prestigious event in the jumps calendar. Thundering past the finishing post at The Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris, which is one of the longest and most arduous of any French race course (6000 metres), is a stand out achievement in any National Hunt jockey s career. The legendary course is a hurdlers heaven as it has 23 obstacles for the horse and rider to negotiate. The most famous and most feared fence is the rail ditch at 4.10 metres long and 1.60 metres high, closely followed by La Rivière and the Bull Finch. Only a true champion can win this race with the most audacious jockey in the saddle. In 2014, the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris once again transformed Auteuil racecourse into a pot of bubbling excitement. As soon as the gates opened, the racecourse s avenues and stands were flooded with thousands of spectators who had come to witness the coronation of the King of Jumps Racing. Following a nailbiting race, Storm of Saintly ridden by Vincent Cheminaud crossed the finishing posts first to claim the title. 6 ARC TRIALS AND QATAR PRIX DE L ARC DE TRIOMPHE The World Championship of thoroughbreds The Qatar Prix de l Arc de Triomphe is the best and most prestigious event for middle distance horses aged three and above. It is the one every horseman dreams of winning and has recently been named the World s greatest race. The thoroughbred elite head to Longchamp to round off the flat racing season with this spectacular Group One event. The race is steeped in history and each year the race brings together the best horses from across the world. It also helps bring the best crowds, with the average attendance in the Racetrack every year reaching 40,000 people. Previous legendary winners include Ribot, Sea Bird, Alleged (the back-to-back winner of the race in 1977 and 1978), Dancing Brave, Peintre Celebre and Trève (the last back-toback winner in 2013 and 2014) to name just a few. The 2014 edition of the Qatar Prix de l Arc de Triomphe saw many of the world s very best thoroughbreds come together - no fewer than 221 horses, including 85 Group race winners, took part in the various races. Skilfully ridden by Thierry Jarnet, Trêve galloped to victory to clinch her second Qatar Prix de l Arc de Triomphe crown. Trained all year by Christiane Head-Maarek with this exact goal in mind, the 4-year-old mare once again proved her status as an outstanding champion will mark the 94th anniversary of the race and there will be a prize pot worth 5,000,000 on offer for the weekend of racing. Race coverage is approximately 25 minutes in duration and includes the following: - Presentation of the horses to the public prior to race (Rond de Presentation) - Coverage of the jockeys and trainers which includes weigh in of the jockeys before and after the Rond de Presentation - Warm up as the horses move into their starting boxes - Actual coverage of the race (3-4 minutes in duration) - Follow up with the winner - Prize ceremony TECHNICAL: All coverage will be available with international sound. English commentary can be made available on request. RIGHTS: All TV broadcast rights excluding on-line betting rights.
