4 1 Introduction This document goes along with the publication of the beta version of the GeoSEE webgis According to the standard software development practices, the beta version will be followed by several release versions until the system will be considered stable. Chapter 2 reports a brief description about the use of the webgis in order to give the partners all necessary information to execute the tests on it. Along with this document you will find the Info bugs document, in which each partner will report the bugs found in GeoSEE webgis or following versions. Every Friday afternoon until the end of the development, the webgis might be non-operating due to maintenance. Each new version of the webgis will be accompanied with a list of fixed bugs or necessary modifications. 2 GeoSEE webgis description 2.1 URL The GeoSEE webgis beta version is available at The site is deployed on one of the TESAF servers and therefore not yet on GeoSEE site server, so when you want to access to the webgis it is necessary to write the above URL instead of the webgis link found on the GeoSEE site. Figure 1 WebGIS connection not yet usable. 2.1 Overview In this paragraph the parts of which the webgis is made are described (Figure 2). 4

5 Figure 2 - WebGIS overview 1. Navigation toolbar: contains the tools necessary to navigate on the map. 2. Map: contains the map of the GeoSEE webgis and the visible layers. 3. Layers list and legend: displays the layers list and the layers legend. The layers are divided in general layers including layers that interest all the GeoSEE countries (such as national boundaries and case-study locations) and Country layers, with the list of countries and the layers specific to each country. 4. Zoom to case-study locations: this section contains one button for each case-study location. The buttons allows to quickly zoom to every case-study geographical area. 5. Information toolbar: contains the tools to display attribute tables, graphs and to download data. 5

6 2.2 Navigation toolbar This bar contains the tools (listed in Table 1) useful to navigate on the map. Table 1 - Tools The scale of the map. The scale values available are fixed so, when the user writes a number for the scale, it will be corrected to the closest value available. Pan Zoom In Zoom history Max extent 2.1 Map The basemap shown is based on Open Street Map (OSM) data, a project that creates and distributes free geographical data for the world (under the Open Data Commons Open Database License). The tools available on the map are listed in Table 2. Pan bar Table 2 Map tools Zoom bar Scale bar Overview The map displays the layers checked in the Layers list. 6

7 2.2 Layers list and legend Layers list Click on the Layers tab to display the list of layers. The layers are divided in General layers (country boundaries and study case locations) and Country layers. The latter contains a series of layers grouped by country. Click on a country name (Figure 3) to display the list of layers for that Country, and then click on the check boxes to display the layers on the map (Figure 4). 8 Display feature information To display the information about a feature, click on the layer name to select it (Figure 5) and then click the layer feature on the map (Figure 6). Figure 5 Click on layer name for displaying feature information. 8

9 Figure 6 After selecting the layer name (Figure 5), click on the feature layer to display the popup with feature information. The popup is available only for visible layers. Only Croatian, Italian and Slovenian layers are now available on the webgis. 2.3 Layers legend Click on the legend tab to display the legend of layers. Like in the Layers list, it is necessary to click on the country name to display the layers legend (Figure 7 and Figure 8). It is possible display the legend (check box selected in layers list) only for the visible layer. 9

Figure 8 Legend for visible Italian layers. 2.4 Zoom to case-study area To quickly display the case-study location on the map, click the button for the desired site. The name of the sites are the ones reported in the Application form. The acronyms of the Country follow the NUTS nomenclature of EU (Nomenclature of territorial units for statistics). 10

11 2.5 Information toolbar To use the tools of this bar it is important to first select the location and then the layer of the location (Figure 9). Figure 9 Select location ad layer from information toolbar Attribute table After the selection of location and layer, click the Table button to display the attribute table of the layer (Figure 10). Figure 10 Attribute table of the Slovenia geology layer. When a row of the table is selected, the relative feature is also selected and highlighted on the map. 11

13 2.5.1 Graphs For layers that contain numerical attributes it is possible display a graph with the sum or the average of an attribute value. After the selection of location and layer, click the Graph button to display the box with the graph tools (Figure 12). Figure 12 - Graph toolbar. Select the attribute for Category (x axis), Value (y axis) and the type of aggregation (sum or average) and click on the Display button to show the chart (Figure 13). In the Value box only numerical attributes are listed. Figure 13 Attribute graph. To close the graph box click on the cross button or on the Graph button Feature selection This tool allows the selection of features from a layer. On the information toolbar select Location and Layer then click the Sel.feat. button and draw a rectangle to select the features (Figure 14). 13

15 Figure 15 Attribute table of selected features. To switch off the function click the Sel. Feat. button Download All the GeoSEE layers can be downloaded. Select the Location and the Layer from the Information toolbar, then click the Download button. 15
